does he use his pinky while fingerpicking? i've tried but i have a hard enough time tryin to incorperate my third finger into playing... sry for the spelling errors |

I'm fairly positive he never does. Occasionally he uses the pinky to brace his hand above the strings, but that's it. I know it can look like he's using it, but if you wiggle your first 3 fingers you should see your pinky wiggle too, try it.
If you're working on getting the third finger in practice, what I always used to do is hold a pencil upright on a table by pushing down on the top with your thumb, then spin the pencil with your 3 fingers. It was great in class, cause I didn't need a guitar with me. Give that a try. |

it's also useful to pick a chord and arpeggiate it with all three fingers. you can do it while you're watching tv or whatever. i've noticed it's actually a lot easier if you don't plant your pinky anywhere. |

I've tried that once in a while.. sometimes it's just convenient when you've got a base note and then four strings after to play the fourth with a pinky.. but I find it's too short to stay fluent, so generally I avoid it altogether. |
