Not a whole hell of a lot to tell about this one. It was at a casino (yeah, MS has the third largest casino area in the US, whooptyfrickin'doo). Seating was probably 2500, and that wasn't even full. It was good, however. The guitarist is pretty talented. Lead guitarist, that is. There was another guitarist who sang some, and even played keyboard some. Then there was a keyboard player who looked like an old grandma (really), and he also played a guitar some too. The bass player was pretty good, and he tried to put on an active show.

Setlist was good. I didn't know that much of their stuff, but the ones I did know were good to hear ((Don't Fear) The Reaper, Godzilla, Burnin' For You, and a pretty tight cover of Born To Be Wild). They played some other cool stuff too, and they did the Led Zeppelin-esque solo where all the guitarists left the bass player on stage and he massaged his bass for about 3 minutes, then he left the stage and the drummer took it for a while. When the band was ready to come back on, they all did. They didn't pick up mid song like Zep would have, but I can forgive that :)

Played a pretty short set. Maybe 1.5 hours, inc. encore. I wasn't disappointed, however. I had my earplugs (yes, I take plugs. I have a mostly deaf father, and I don't want that. I support you doing the same.) so I was good to go, but my girl didn't, and we were right under a speaker.

I will say, they had some super ugly ass guitars. The lead had pits in his, sort of like a big swiss cheese guitar, and it was one of those with upside down strings, where the guitar basically has no head. Then the other main guitarist had all his guitars airbrushed with their logo, which didn't suck, but looked kind of corny on the guitar. The bass player had possibly the biggest bass I've ever seen. The drums were very very pretty. Some sort of blond wood finish on all of them. Very nice.

Good show~ And for 10 bucks, it was grand. First time in the casinos there in Tunica for me, it was pretty interesting. My girl played on $5, and I kept tabs on what she won/lost, so she left there with that $5, too. I didn't gamble.

Now I'm tired.

Well it was almost 4 am here when I wrote that, and I was up before 8am today, for no reason, I might add! I could have slept in but I just have trouble sleeping these days. I think I may work out today. That should make me feel better, and maybe let me sleep!

Too bad I didn't know you were up late too Arthen, we could have talked on line a bit.

I forgot to mention about one song they did. It's a song that seems like it's right up the lane with Tim on electric. Would be a great cover. Called Domination and Submission. (I think.) While I was listening to it then, I found myself imagining Tim playing it. And it wasn't hard. Good song.

Me too these days

I almost forgot, nice little extra Jason! Sounds interesting, very cool that you pictured TIM playing that song! I am so thankful for music! I couldn't live without it!

The Domination / Submission theme would fit perfectly into the
Observation
Confusion
Mind control
song by Skinny Puppy. I think the two were pulled out of the same mold. So it was natural to see Tim doing it.

Nice review... but I'll never think of BOC the same after seeing the SNL skit with Will Farrell being their producer and constantly demanding MORE COW BELL lol. We have tons of Indian Casino's out here and they get nothing but washed up bands and a lot of oldies bands. (Not saying BOC is washed up though).

I saw BOC many TIMes back in "the day" and once recently. The recent one was during the day at a festival and it was outdoors so it was a completely different experience than my past pre-pubescent experiences. I was amazed at how well it held up to the test of TIMe. The were one of my faves back in the day and they still rock out. I even had my own "caught in the lasers" experience(See "The Stoned Age(1994)for more on this:http://us.imdb.com/Title?0111293). I would suggest anyone interested check out BOC's DVD Long Days Night which is a recently recorded show but it rocks.

Also there is a DVD coming out called Black & Blue:Sabbath & Oyster Cult. It was recorded on the Black and Blue Tour way back when. I saw this show a few TIMes and was blown away. It was during the Ronnie James Dio period of BS, but he really did pull it off brilliantly. He recently played at 9:30 Club and it was a phenonenal show.

Did they play Astronomy? I've always loved that song. I like Metallica's version better (yup, I'm a metallica fan....bash away, I don't mind really, heehee)!

I've only ever seen BOC once(small venue in Albany, NY). I thought it was going to suck (an old boyfriend "dragged me along") because it was quite a few yrs after their rockin years. But, to my surprise, they kicked ass and it was a really good show....and they played Astronomy.

I discovered DMB the same way. A friend "dragged" me to a show at SPAC. I really didn't want to go at all but decided to go for the party scene. Razzing her the whole way about how it was Pop 40 easy listening crap like madonna or something.
Long story short, DMB was with Tim Reynolds and Butch Taylor that night and my jaw was on the ground the WHOLE night (with the exception of the song Crash, which was like a scheduled bathroom break). and I couldn't shut up the whole way back about the show, but this TIMe....NO razzing!

I am pretty sure every TIMe I saw them in the past they did that song except for the most recent TIMe. That is a great song, but my fave always has been and still is GODZILLA!! They really have alot of great songs. Their first 3 albums are mandatory listeners I think. Well maybe the 1st 2, but I don't think they have ever made a bad album. I have all of them, on vinyl of course and quite a few of the CD's.
