The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights grants the American people the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of speech. The rights are the same for the average citizen as they are for the politicians who are sworn to protect them. If "President" Bush wants to ignore a bishop in his own church and urge Americans to pray for, among other things, a war on Iraq--that's fine. If Sen. Biden--ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee--wants to praise Colin Powell for making an "irrefutable case before the Security Council" despite the fact that both British intelligence and the FBI and CIA don't believe Powell's claims--that's fine. And if the British and US governments want to justify a war using plagiarized information from a grad student--that's fine, too. They have that right.
The story is not the same for those who find these lies and distortions distasteful and dangerous, who would rather see a peaceful solution than a war for oil that will kill even more Iraqi civilians than have already died in the past twelve years. No, for the hundreds of thousands of people gathering in New York on February 15th, there is, apparently, no right to assembly or to free speech. New York City has rejected their permit application to march in front of the United Nations. Now, United for Peace & Justice and the New York Civil Liberties Union are suing the city.
If you are in New York on Friday, February 7th, you can join in a rally at the Federal Courthouse. Whether you're in New York City or not, you can call the bigshots who are trying to block this rally: NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg: 212-788-9600, 212-788-3010, 212-788-3040; NYC Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly: 646-610-8526; and NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito: 646-610-6710. Tell them to honor the Bill of Rights, to allow the marchers the right to free speech and free assembly. You can also help by making a donation to the NYCLU. And just as important, don't let this keep you from planning your trip to New York City for the February 15 protest. You can find out how to get there, where to stay, how you can help other people get there, how you can help organize the event, and much, much more at the United for Peace website.

Don't know why but the words to Blowin' in the Wind sung by Peter Paul and Mary just popped into my head when I read this.
"How many deaths will it take til he knows that too many people have died?"
I've got to dig that album back out, whoa, memories!
Why is it easier to believe lies than truth? And why do we have to "fight" for peace???? |

In this day and age, it is more say your PEACE as long as we agree with what you are saying. I am not surprised that they have their voice in the press and everywhere else yet they try and stifle the publics voice. The people they are supposed to be there to represent. They are in it for themselves, they could care less what we think unless it is to agree with them. It saddens, sickens, and disgusts me to no end. Please visit:

BAH! Now look at this crap... a good point is made here... NYC is saying that that can't allow 1000s of people to march the streets because they can't promise their safe being... just weeks before the St. Patricks Day Parade where 1000s will march the streets and noone has a problem with that!
