| I say Martin, but just because it's my last name and I think they are cool guitars. I have a friend who really likes his Taylor, however. |

| I think in the grand spectrum of things, cheaper Martins sound better than cheaper Taylors...but that's just what I've heard from other guitarists...I'm just a bass player...I played a Martin acoustic bass once and I thought it sucked ass. I guess I'll stop being irrelevant now. |

taylor taylor taylor. much better quality, much fuller tone and my dad has had a taylor for 10 years and it still kicks ass. i think there's a lot more 'mmph' in a taylor. martins are nice, but i think the difference between a martin and a taylor is like the difference between the 50s beatles and the post-50s beatles, respectively. it all depends on what you play and what YOU think sounds better. |

I agree, go to a music store, find a couple Martins and a couple Taylors in your price range, play them, and decide which one you want. Also keep in mind what kind of electronics are in them, if they are acoustic/electric, and definitely plug them in and try them out that way too.
BTW, I prefer Martins, but I have played a few Taylors that were pretty nice sounding....for like 3000 bucks....

| They are both great guitar makers... quality is certainly equal on either one-- superb. Just play them both because it really isn't possible to say that one is better than the other. You will likely just find subtle differences that will draw you more towards one or the other. |
