I have been listening to Tony's "Pieces of the Sun" and it is a truely amazing cd!!!!

He is such an awesome bass player(and plays the stick as well) and he has Larry Fast on synthesizers, Jesse Gress on guitars, Jerry Marotta on drums and special guests, The California Guitar Trio

This one is worth checking out, especially by all of you who are fans of the bass!

I already pre-ordered his new one "Double Expresso" due out this week.

I have always been a Tony Levin fan. I once followed King Crimson on tour in my younger daze. Tony Levin on Bass, Adrian Belew on guitar, Robert Fripp on guitar and Bill Bruford on Drums. AMAZING Tony Levin also plays Chapman Stick really well. He is really amazing. I would highly recommend checking anything out with any of these musicians involved. Especially Adrian Belew, alot of his stuff reminds me of TR at TIMes. He loves to make bizarre noizes on the geetar that you almost can't believe are actually a guitar. Zappa discovered Adrian Belew and he played with him for a while.

Went to see Peter Gabriel and because we were 2nd row and no one stood in front of us for much of the show, we really got to interact with the musicians and I have to say Tony was sooooooooo awesome!!!!!They all were but Tony and David Rhodes were having such fun with the crowd! I am definitely going to see him when he tours in the spring...I don't care where it is I will be there!!!!

Peter Murphy(from Bauhaus) had a bass/stick player who looked an awful lot like Tony Levin onstage, so after the show I approached him and realized he was not TL. I talked to him for a bit and told him about touring with Greg Howard who it turned out he knew. He says the Stick community is very small and Greg is quite well respected in Europe and the Stick community. Unfortunatly I cannot remember his name right now. He told me to tell Greg HI next TIMe I talked to him. I thought it was pretty kewl.

I'm heading over to Best Buy later on this evening to finish up my XXX-mas shopping, and since we dont sell any of Levin's cds at my store I'll have to cheat and look for them at best buy!

Good luck getting the cd at Best Buy...hope they have some. I ordered mine from his website. I wouldn't advise getting his Pieces of the Sun because most of the songs are also on Double Expresso.

Apparently Gov't Mule asked him to play with them in NYC next week. Tried to get tickets but the New Years show is sold out and the day before had only standing room.

I am sooo psyched for his show on the 8th!!! I am meeting a guy I met at the Peter Gabriel show so I am going to have a good time for sure!!! Tony can really rock the house!!!!

Went to see Tony and Band at the North Star Bar in Philly last night and he was amazing! Great mix of his music, King Crimson and Peter Gabriel. Tony plays a mean stick as well as bass. Jerry Marotta was awesome on drums, also guitar and sax! My favorite was when he played Back In New York City! Jesse Gress was mind blowing on guitar and Larry Fast is always great on keyboard.

Nice crowd although pretty calm. Always nice to be where you can watch a band and have a drink or two, hehehe. Seriously it was a really fun night! Got to talk with them afterwards, pretty kewl!

Wow, thats awesome that you got to see Tony Live. Did you get a chance to chat with him at all? Did he say anything about the rumors of extending the growing up tour? Also have you heard about the I/O (Peter's next cd)?

On a side note, my Double Espresso CD came at work yesterday, and I'm listening to it right now. I just finished Dog One... BADASS tune! And what a deal, the double cd was priced if it were one... I only paid 13 bucks after my discount.

Yeah Kevin, I did get to chat with them a bit.

I also bought another copy of Double Espresso and Tony, Larry, and Jerry signed it. I somehow missed Jesse. I saw him and then I don't know where he got to and I had to leave, but 3 out of 4 was good.

Nothing was said about extending Peter's tour. He did say something about touring with King Crimson again, but I forget exactly what was said. King Crimson is touring Japan in the spring.

As you guys would say, they played a fucking awesome version of Dog One! Yes it really was BADASS!!!!! I really had such a great time! The kind where you keep wishing it would never end!

Speaking of Tony Levin, Greg Howard talks about TL's influence on him as a Stick player. Here is a link to the interview:

Just to let anyone who is interested know...I was able to find all three of TL's solo albums at my local (Burbank, CA) Virgin Megastore (ok...and the one in Vegas).

Happy hunting!

New Tony Levin cd kicks ass... for the first time in his career... Mr. Levin is singing lead vocals on the album, and he does a good job! you'd think a guy that never chose to sing did so for a reason, but not the case. Cool artwork too.

Pam, did you go to the show? How much ass did it kick?

Hey Pam, quick question.

As I was rereading this gem of a thread, I noticed you had 2nd row PG seats. How did you get them? Did you go through a third party vendor or just get really lucky?

I was REALLY LUCKY!!!! PG played in the round that night, a circular stage in the center of the Wachovia Center in Philly. I actually bought some good side seats, first level about row 10 or so. Then I just played around with Ticket Bastard a little, not even on the same day and to my surprise second row floor came up! Same price as my other seats! I almost died when I saw that and of course I snatched them up.

I have to say that was my favorite all time concert of any I ever attended, and I have attended some awesome concerts including the Beatles, Grateful Dead, TR, etc. Being up front for a big show is amazing and its interactive with the band. Tony literally made eye contact with me and smiled, what a rush!

The only concerts that was equal to that one were the Ravi concerts I have been to, but hey, Ravi is in a league all his own!

The way I figure, I'm going to have one good shot at seeing PG live and I plan on exhausting all means available to get within the first five rows.

No, I haven't heard anything, the remotest possibility of seeing PG is always near the front of my mind. I'm hoping I/O will come out this year!

Just read today that Tony Levin has some dates in So Cal in October! One date is at a little place down in San Diego called the Brick By Brick, where I saw Chris Whitley in 2004... it was one of the best shows ever, thanks in part to an amazing sound in that room, so i think I'll try to catch him there.

Kevin you will have such a great time at Tony's show! His band is amazing!

Reading this thread brought back so many great memories! That show with PG was the best ever! I can't tell you how it felt but being right up front was so much fun! If I had to pick a show as #1, it would have been that one.

Tony's band is great and they play some PG tunes as well. He is an amazing musician and an equally amazing human being.

Not sure if I listed his website anywhere above but I think it is:
www.tonylevinband.com He keeps a diary which is really fascinating to read and he takes pictures of the shows.........very strange to have the performers taking pictures of the audience! They put on a great show!

OK, I just looked on his website and it is really outdated. Still some fun things to see on it, but he obviously doesn't keep it up any more. I was sure I saw an updated version not too long ago. hummm...

I checked it out and it is now www.tonylevin.com that is the updated site!

Holy shit! October 13th: T-Levin opening up for Porcupine Tree at the Fillmore in San Fran. PLUS: Projeckt Six the Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp colorboration is supposed to be opening as well!!! What a night of Prog Rock! I'm gonna have to go.

Edit: Looking through all those TLevin sites, makes me wish I had the opportunity to work and jam with Levin. He seems like such a cool, friendly goofball kind of guy. The kind that playing with would be chilled and relaxing.
