Its really facinating to me to see that songs have meanings, especialy the instrumentals. here are the meanings so far that ive gathered from interviews and concerts:

Letting Go

"This song is about letting go of all the bullshit in your life. This is the hardest part, cause we're surrounded by bullshit"

Los Alamos Is Burning

(Fluffy): "It is a very solemn song. It was written as he pondered the fires burning in the distance for his house in Santa Fe. He was quite concerned for the implications of the future healthwise and all for his family and himself. It was a ruff time for him. They just didn't know what was gonna happen. Fires burning out of control near your house can me quite frightening. His daughter Eura had to be sent home from school because they were so concerned about toxic fumes. Luckily everyone was OK. Tim moved there because he thought it was so beautiful and it is hard to watch something you hold as sacred, BURNING! It was a deep heartfelt song for him."

Offspring

"This is is a song about my kids *as* offspring, i wrote it before i even heard of those other motherfuckers"

And Then They Were Free

i dont remember what he said exactly, but to paraphrase, its about people who are in jail for non violent crimes and who should be free.

Do It Yourself

"This song was written.... under the influence... of marajuana"

Continue

This was written for his uncle, who used to play guitar to him i believe. Not sure, cause i dont have the show off hand...

Turn It Into Love

Pretty much take all the bad shit, and turn it into love :)

Jemez Rolling Waves

I believe this was written after looking at the hills in a place called Jemez, in which they all looked like rolling waves. hence, Jemeze Rolling Waves.

Tree of Life

theres a story about this that i dont remember, but i'll post it. In fact, the story is about a tree. I'll find it

Im going to look for others

TURN IT INTO LOVE
"This next song is called Turn It Into Love. It was a song I wrote when I got really mad once at my dad and I thought, 'well, I shouldn't do that. Let's turn it into love.'"
-6/2/00

It's funny when you listen to it, the way he talks. Tim's quite a funny guy. All the more reason for you guys to listen to the Key Club '99 show, which you can get on my ftp if you don't have it! Off the subject now, but there's a ton of funny stuff in there... e.g., "We got CDs and pictures and posters and a man to kiss downstairs. That's right, CDs, Astral Projection, CDs, and a man... Fluffy... kiss him please. I do everyday. And it's wonderful, goddammit. Don't bust on it unless you do it."

VALLEY OF FLOWERS/FLUORESCENCE
"When I was a little boy growing up in Missouri, I lived in a place called Florissant, Missouri, which means valley of flowers."
-10/2/00

"We'd like to do a song now, me and my guitar. It's called Valley of Flowers, named after Florissant, Missouri, where I went to high school and did a lot of drugs(crowd cheers)."
-5/4/00

Florissant sounds like Fluorescence when you say it... maybe there's a relation there too.

Do you know what Dave and Tim show that is Jon? I think I have that version of Tree of Life and I'd like to get that show cause it sounds like Tim talks throughout.

In funny accent: "There are some mountains out by my house called the Jemez Mountains."

Stranger In A Strained Land: "Didja ever feel that you were on the wrong planet?"

Chatterbox: "This is a song about a little boy who wouldn't shut up."

And my favorite...

Try A Little Harder: "This song is about if you can't get an erection you can buy a muscle man magazine and it will teach you how to get one."

"This guitar is called sister. This guitar is called brother. I'm the bus driver and we're comin' home from school."

I'm almost certain Tree of Life is from 5.27.93...definitely one of the '93 shows.

Hey DirtySloth, I asked Tim about the Flourescence thing and you were right on the money. I had never even noticed that myself. Pretty quick of you. I was even the one who posted to the emailing list about the song listed on setlists as Valley of Flowers being renamed Flourescence. Kudos!!! Keep paying attention. I bet there are all manner of things like that in Tim's song titles. That is just the way his mind works and obviously yours too.

Peace & Keep the Faith

Thanks for asking him Fluffy. I used to like the name Valley of Flowers better, but now that there's some meaning behind it I think the switch to Flourescence was pretty neat.

Here's another meaning-
FEELING DOORS
"My four-year-old daughter helped me give this song a name. I don't know what it means. It means she's cooler than I am."

You can't forget:

"This is a song called Leelines...about Thomas Jefferson's rectum"
from the 8-7-98 show.

Hmmmm... Maybe it's just one of those titles that just seems to fit, but I wonder if there's any meaning behind the naming of that cool song on Id called Sloth, for obvious reasons

Peace,
Patrick
