Hey gang,

I've been playing my acoustic (Seagull S6 w/ iBeam Active) out of a Fender Acoustasonic Jr. Amp, and as I'm sure most of you are too, I'm getting frustrated on that never ending quest to sound more and more natural. I am well willing to trade in the amp for a mixer (powered or not), and was just curious to see if anyone is comletely satisfied with their mixers (either direct or mic). Any reccomendations on a relatively inexpensive (under $450) mixer and speakers?

- Isaac

Keep on jammin'.

Let me clarify... the under $450 pertains to the mixer only (not the speakers). I'm also looking for speaker recommendations too.

Thanks,

- Isaac

I know this will be of no help to you, but what is a mixer?

How many channels are you looking for in your mixer? 4, 6, 8+???

Also, are you essentially looking for a PA system?

dmb: a mixer is similar to a PA...

Guitarguy: I'd most likely be looking for at least a 6 channel... did you have any in mind?

A PA system consists of the following:

Mixer (powered or not)
Power Amp(s) (if mixer is not powered)
Speakers
Monitor(s)
Mic(s)
Speaker Stands, Mic Stand(s), Cables, etc...

If you're looking for a mixer, and speakers, you may want to just look for an entire PA system. Musician's Friend has some great package deals with Yamaha PA gear, which I've heard really good things about. If you want I can point you in the direction of some good deals.

As far as mixers, look at Behringer and Yamaha mixers. Yamaha makes some really good powered mixers. I'll come back later with some more info and model #'s and such.

I bought a Behringer Eurorack MX602A 6 channel mixer for working on my demo, but it's only 4 channels mono, two of the channels are stereo, and they count the left and right channels separately, so it's like this:

Channel 1: mono
Channel 2: mono
Channel 3/4: Stereo Left/Right
Channel 5/6: Stereo Left/Right

So, if you're using all mono instruments, you really only have 4 inputs you can use. Keep that in mind when looking for a mixer, if you want 6 channels mono, you may want to look for an 8 channel mixer.

I'm still learning about the Behringer, but I like it, you may want to look at one of there more elaborate models with more channels, etc...

I've heard good things about Mackie mixers too, but they are pretty pricey. Yamaha and Behringer are pretty reasonable. Yamahas are pretty expensive too, but you get what you pay for with a lot of it. As far as EQ, effects sends, etc...
