Perhaps this has been answered in a different thread, but I think I missed it...What type of drum machine does TIM use? I've been meaning to get one cause I want to start writing stuff so that I, too, can have a "band" when I play my Chapman Stick.
Thanks!

I've been wondering this too. And what kind of sampler(s) he uses.
Not because I'm going to run out and buy them, kiddies, I'm just wonder what Tim's preference is.

Before this sinks off the page, I thought I should rescue it...Which one of those 2(3) does TIM use the most? I really love the sound of the drums he has. |

The Zoom Rhythm Track Drum Machines. The Korg Electribe is basically only used for jams. Usually the electric encore after the acoustic encore. Anywhere else you hear drums, its the Zooms. So I would say, Zooms 99% of the TIMe and Korg 1% of the TIMe. |

None of the ones on ebay appear to have come from the Buffalo area but I would figure those were sold long ago. I can't imagine they would have waited this long. Just so ya know, the ones that were stolen had Grey 1 and Grey 2 scratched into them. I would imagine they are pretty EZ to spot. As I assume crackheads stole our equipment, I doubt they will show up on ebay, but ya never know.
It looks like zak already got his drum machine. I noticed that one had been purchased by surfscape. If that is you, then these links are of probably no use to you. But I did find 2 that were going for cheap. The first closes in 17 hours and the bidding is at $56:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=925799710
The second closes in 6 days and the bidding is at $10:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=926739398
You should post if you are going to bid so other people on the board don't bid against you and drive the price up. HEHE |

Yeah, Fluffy...I'm surfscape over on eBay. That "Buy It Now" feature is really cool! Anyway, $120 is pretty damn good for these things I noticed. It retails for $299 and most places sell them for $160-$180, so I think I got a really good deal, yes? |

It certainly sounds like it. Although the one that closed 17 hours from my last post sold for $92. At least with BuyItNow you don't have to worry about getting outbid at the last minute. Congrats and enjoy your NEW DEVICE!!! |

Thought I'd rescue this thread from being shoved off the 1st page...
Quick question here for Fluffy...Which model # (123, 234) of the Zoom machines does TIM use? I'm just curious... |

I recently aquired a 234. So, now I have a 123 and a 234. I must say they are both awesome machines. If anyone is thinking about getting one, I recommend both. eBay has some awesome deals! |

Now, with those, can you program entire songs into them, that will play back entirely at the touch of a button, or do you have to switch between the different drum/bass loops manually?

if you saw tim on the recent tours, i think you can do both, but im unsure. most of the songs are definatly 1 track programed, touch of a button with a 4 - 8 count leading in. Im not sure if he would switch between tracks with the drum machine or the sampler, but im thinking he used the sampler for it though. |

Yeah, you can notice on the DVD, on songs like track 6 (can't think of the title) and Lift, that he's pressing buttons/doing something on the Korg ES-1, then the rhythm part changes and he continues to play. While when hes using the Zooms, he just hits the button to start the playback, and then does his thing on the guitar.
Also, doesn't he use some other kind of sampler? I can see it sitting between the two Zooms on the DVD. Maybe a Boss Dr. Sample? He appears to use it for different sounds in Chaos View Drip, and the Eura vocals, acoustic guitar and what I call the "frog noise" on Glimpses.

Yes, you can program entire songs into the Zooms. I thought it was going to be all hard, but as it turns out, it's quite easy. You can even cut and paste grooves, so if you come up with like 5-6 grooves, you can make an entire song out of them. BTW, the count-in has to be programmed manually (unless I missed something).
Also, I do believe that TIM only uses a Korg ES-1 as a sampler. Perhaps Fluffy can chime in on that one...Anyway, that's my next purchase, as I have seen some around and they are pretty sweet! |

If you look on the DVD though, and Im sure in some pics of the Chaos View tour, you can see ANOTHER unit, sitting on the table that is off to Tim's right as he stands at the keyboard facing the audience. On the DVD, before Chaos View Drip and Glimpses, you can see him pushing buttons on this mystery unit, and things lighting up. He does nothing with the ES-1 before Glimpses, and Eura's voice is coming from SOMEWHERE, and I'm certain it's that unit on the table to his right between the two Zooms.

LIke I said, the unit I'm talking about is BETWEEN the 2 Zooms. You telling me that this is a trick of the eye only viewable on my DVD?! I can clearly see him pushing buttons on a smaller unit on the table with the Zooms.

I'm aware this thread has been dead for a while now, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with the newer Zoom machine, the MRT-3B Micro Rhythm Trak Drum Machine. Seems they've discontinued the RT323 Rhythm Trak Drum, so I'm just looking into the alternatives. Also here that Alexis rules. Any comments? |
