I play both acoustic and electric. I write a lot of my own stuff, and play some dmb and david gray...and I attempt to tackle some Tim stuff when I'm feeling lucky. The stuff I write ranges from acoustic stuff like David Gray to acoustic instrumental stuff a la Tim. Though I wouldn't say it's as intricate as Tim's work. As far as electric, my biggest influence on electric is Tim, actually the Sanctuary album is what made me want to start electric. I'm also big into Metallica, Disturbed, Alice In Chains, and Deftones. And by the way, my band needs a new bassist...then again I'm from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, so I probably wont have much luck here, LOL.
Peace, Adam

Adam, im pretty much in the same boat.
I play and write my own accoustic ala tim stuff, but definatly not as intricate, by far. My influences range from Metallica to Pink Floyd. My favourite bands are Pink Floyd, Metallica, The Cure, DMB, BNL, Tori Amos, Jethro Tull, Tim Reynolds, Elton John.... The influences go on and on. I love disturbed too... anyway,

Shit i'm up in Wisconsin, It would seem Timmy has the Midwest covered as far as fan base goes hehe.
I play guitar too, though i hurt my pinkey really bad trying to play some Ben Folds Five tunes on Guitar, hopefully that'll stop hurting in a couple days. Anyway I love Tool, DMB, Timmy, Ben Folds, Queen, The Verve, Paul Simon, Anything and everything Blues, Travis, Van Morrison, Beatles, Morphine, Radiohead... etc.
Peace Isaac

I'm an acoustic/electric player, although it seems like i've been using an acoustic simulator for my electric a lot these days. Only been playing two years, but i've been known to play for 4 hours a day so i'm probably better than you would assume for someone who's played for 2 years...i've tackled all of stream (not tim's improv) except for the high lick that starts on the B, always hangs me up. I've been finding that tim/dave stuff is a great way to learn guitar, theres always something in a song that is easy enough for anyone to do, and you can just build from there on the song, i've been doing that for a year or so and the results have been very satisfying.

I think ya gotta be at least a little musical to apreciate Tim on the level that we all seem to.

in response to arthen and isaac. you are right about how musical we all are, and you definately have to be to get the most of timmy's music. not aht un-musical people can't enjoy tim, i just htink it's a hell of a lot easier when you have a better understanding for what is going on.

I play acoustic. Basically anything that has only the easy chords, ha. But that's true. Haven't been playing for long. But anyway...
I have a question that I didn't think merited another thread, but I want to know....What kind of strap does everyone use? I have two acoustics, a 6 and a 12, and neither of them have the peg where the fretboard connects to the body, so I guess that means I have to get one that ties on at the top where the pegs are right? What kinds are the best and what is most comfortable and all. I'm not going to be performing, so it's just to be able to get the guitar where I want it when I'm standing or sitting and playing.
Anyone have any suggestions? (style, brand, material, anything really)

I just use a standard black 10 dollar generic strap. Suits my purposes, i never put much thought into it. I only use it when i feel like prancing in front of my mirror while playing a C chord or somthing.

You can always sew patches or put pins on a plain strap after you bought it to pimp it out a little and give it some personality. Or you could just go out and get a badass snakeskin one or something (heavy sarcasm)

For all my guitars except one I use Fort Bryan straps. They're only like 8 bucks or so at my local guitar shop. My other guitar is a Gibson Chet Atkins solid body guitar, and his heavy as shit, so it has a $20 dollar thick-ass black Planet Waves strap by daddario. It's just plain black, but really thick and heavy duty feeling. I sometimes switch it off to other guitars, but the Fort Bryan ones are thinner, so I like them on my electrics and my acoustics.

For my guitar I just use the cheap nylong strap too, but what makes it easier to attach is the fast strap attacher, so you don't have to tie it. It's only 4 bucks and you could probably find it at any music shop. Or you could always find some guitar repairmen to put a fret button on your guitar for you. john

would having a button make the strap more convenient or comfortable? I might like to get the quick attach thing, cause I'll probably use the strap for my six and 12 string both.
O and I did get one today, just a cheap nylon one like you said.
Thank,

On my very first guitar and subsequent guitars I would buy that didnt already have a peg, I used to tie the strap on the end of the neck. It just feels odd to me, I almost "need" the peg. I can never get the guitar just where I want it, get the "feeling" i want, with it tied to the end. It starts slipping around and stuff. Hard to play that way. I think those pegs are pretty cheap, and it doesn't cost much to get em installed.

Adam, I know what you mean. Both of my guitars seem to slip some with the tie on strap, but I'm not ready to get a peg put in just yet. I'm not familiar enough yet with where I actually want to have the guitar for it to make much difference. What I mean is that it isn't really bad for it to slip, cause that way I'll find where it is that it's comfortable, and then maybe I'll look at getting a peg.
Anyway, wouldn't putting a peg in kind of diminish the guitar's value or something? Not that mine are particularly valuable or anything, but wouldn't it just be some unoriginal piece of equipment that I could do without?

I'm not sure if it diminishes the value or not. It probably depends on where it is. If you put it behind the neck, on the little space where the neck meets the body, so you're not drilling through the body, that is probably better than drilling through the body above where the neck meets the body, and probably diminishes the value less. I guess I never thought about that, because I have never considered selling any of my guitars. I do know that when I was looking at old used guitars to use for gigs in shadier places, the Charvel acoustic I found had a peg installed on it already, and that was a nice thing to see it had. It probably depends on who is buying the guitar, someone that wants a peg, would see it as a plus, another selling point, while someone that wants the guitar, and knows everyting about guitars, would be able to quote you an exact price, and deduct for the peg hehe.

uhh i just realized this topic no longer talked about guitar players and such..soo in order to avoid looking like an idiot..ill post my reply about the "pegs" and what not....i had the same problem over the summer....my acoustic didnt have a peg on the neck near the body..which is where i wanted it.....and i didnt want to put the strap up near the head....cause that was too elvis..and well....i didnt want that exactly...so i went to this guitar store in denver..(HUGE place..it ruled....i was like in heaven when i walked in and saw hundreds of guitars on the walls and on stands...if youre ever in denver colorado..stop at a place called guitar center...ull love it)....and i bought a peg for the guitar...just a metal peg with a screw...and i went ahead and drilled it in there......and it worked out fine..so now i can look like a badass in front of the mirror......ehh not so much... james

Guitar Center kicks ass. I was in the Guitar Center when I was down in Las Vegas a while ago, I could have spent the whole day in there. I also went to their Mars Music, but it wasnt nearly as sweet as Guitar Center. I believe I actually drooled a bit.

Well, I am new on these boards, and I saw a guitar thing, so I jumped in. I play almost every dave matthews band song, and I am learning at this moment how to play Is Anybody Here? I also have Stream down to the cocaine fury part. I also love to play Lennon songs, not beatles, but Lennon songs. I also write my own music. I write David Gray style stuff, Timmy style accoustic (but a bit simpiler), hard rock, soft rock, and dmb style songs. I prefer to do accoustic Timmy style music though, it is just so fun to finger pick. I learned how to finger pick before I even picked up a guitar pick. I also very rarely use a guitar pick. Well, that's me and my guitars. I love them.
