I've decided to post a question on this board that is a argument between me and my friends. Which is better??? One of my friends(John) say's it's Luther. The counter point to that from my friend Shane is that Luther is the only cd that he owns, and hasn't heard much (if any) of the studio versions of the DMB songs, and cant appreciate the many number of changes done in United to the songs. Shane thinks United is some of the best work DMB has done live. Me and him have downloaded our fair share of the thousands of boot legs of the net, and we both agree United is a work of art on the DMB part. I also lean towards Luther, enjoying it's small audience (compared to United) and the atmosphere of two men and there guitars can create. Tim's solo on both cd's are unforgettable, but that's where United takes the cake for me. On United, EVERYONE gets a solo. Each member of DMB show's of there creative flair during the songs. This is how I think United is better than Luther, but both have there strong points. What do ya'll think?

I think the two are incommensurable. It is two different bands. Granted, they play the same songs, but it is honestly two alltogether different things.
Almost (but not quite) like asking which is better, A Perfect Circle's album X or TOOL's album X. Same lead singer, right (although different songs, you've got me on this one) but different backing players.
Anyway. Of course if the question was which do you LIKE better... Luther; it has TIM.

Luther all the way!! Sure United is good.....but I've heard enough of that from Listener Supported. After all, almost the exact same setlist. Luther just has a more emotional feel to it. No flair.....no special lighting....just two guys doing what they do best. It really shows why the guitar is so appealing.

Good point's both of you, but i'd rather hear a full version of #41 with the whole band, then D and T (dont take that the wrong way, the band version is fuller in sound, longer and more appealing) But then i'd rather hear D and T play Trippin Billes over the whole band. Dave and Tim add something to that song that the whole band cant recreate, and no one can touch Tim's solo's on TB. They just have there strong points.

Comparing any and all music in this way is like comparing apples and say rocketlaunchers. Fave albums, fave bands, is all totally subjective. I say it rocks, you say it sucks! Guess what? We are both right. For me it rocks and for you it sucks. It is a personal opinion where both are correct. Arguing over music is such a waste of time. Discussions on the merits of different kinds of music is fine. Don't ever expect everyone to agree with you. Just because you say it's great. If someone you knew told you Backstreet Boys was great, I doubt you would be changing your opinion of them anytime soon.

But it is definetely not like comparing Macaroni & Cheese! Those two go hand in hand! Or should I say "spoon in mouth!"

Your posts are not going completely ignored! It's just that I usually agree with everything you say and that there's nothing I can really add to the argument. I would think that you wouldn't want us to write something as short as "I agree".

i would say united, because i just like the fuller sounds of a whole band as compared to the few sounds(although tim makes a lot of it) on luther. i like dmb live stuff with tim, just it's more so, than just dave and tim.

I was just listining to Red Rocks earlier today, and the fuller sounds of DMB with the aid of Tim Reynolds on electric is the best way to go, in my opinion anyway.

Tru dat!! HAHA, I just had to say it. You are right, "I agree" is what I consider post whore territory. Looks to me like people are just trying to get there post counts up which is ridiculous because those post counts don't mean anything. What I would love to see are comments or your thoughts on what you read. Or if you don't understand, LMK and I will be happy to try and make it clearer. "I agree" would be fine, or Silky's "Tru dat" works pretty good as well. It is just good to know that my words have not gone unread and my time has not been wasted. AS we all know, I tend to ramble on and on and on(and on and on)and that takes alot of time and when you type a long one and the next post is new subject it just make me feel like it was ignored. May I suggest something like, "I agree(or Tru dat)and then onto the new subject right there in the post with the I agree message. That way I know you read it and now we are moving on. Sometimes it feels like I write these things and then we move on to a new subject and I have no idea if it was read. Hope this makes sense, don't think about it to much, I don't want to change the way people respond naturally. That would be changing the dynamic of the board, and as I have said b4, I have no desire to do that.

Hey Fluffy, just a little bit of a suggestion maybe, if I can do that. If you'd sometimes not ramble on and on and on, (but still make your point, of course) then it would be much easier for all of us to see your point immediately. That way, we could all quickly read your post, know exactly what you meant, and all would be understood and everyone would be happy. I mean, you could just pare it down a little.
I'm sure this will somehow be wrong for me to have said that, but it's just a friendly suggestion. If you don't like it, don't take it. I enjoy you being here.

Oh no it is perfectly fine for you to say it, it is just physically and emotionally impossible for me to do. It is something I have always known about myself. I over explain myself. I always want to make sure everyone understands. Growing up people would always joke that "Fluffy, I got it the first time". Joke was that I always explained everything 3 different ways. I am sure there is some, maybe alot of truth to that. May have grown out of my fear of being misunderstood. Not sure if I am always using the right words to convey my point, and here I go again rambling on and on and on. I will try to get to the point and not ramble as much, but I am not sure you will notice much of a change. I am afraid at my age those kinds of traits are pretty ingrained in you already. Thanx for the suggestion, it has been taken under advisement. I will see if I can work on it.
