Posted - 05/03/2007 : 04:26:04 AM Hey Folks, I am starting to feel redundant. Another GREAT show. TR went for a semi-mellower mood this evening even though it was a bar atmosphere type venue. Even still, the crowd was amazingly quiet for this kind of venue. The back half of the room was a little chatty but that was the smaller portion of the audience. Everyone in front of the soundboard was pretty quiet with a few minor exceptions. You should hear what I mean as the show was recorded. Audio I have a handle on(THANX AL!!!)and there was a guy right up front with a video camera but sadly I didn't get to him before he left after the show. Hopefully his footage will surface and I am still holding out hope that he talked to Al who recorded the audio of the show. I will just have to wait and see what he says. Keep your fingers crossed. The show was well attended and most of the audience seemed to be in awe of TR. They seemed to be there to SEE the show unlike alot of the audiences we get in bars. I think Hank Roberts really set the stage for TR. We were all 3 amazed at how well the audience treated the unusual opener. Solo cello. Don't get me wrong, he was absolutely amazing. Right up there with some of the best openers we have had. His set was dark but isn't that what you would expect from solo cello. He played it thru pedals at points, most notably a distortion pedal and it took on an otherworldliness when coupled with his style of playing. Imagine TR on a cello, that is the best way I can describe it. Hank beat on it, plucked it, bowed it and pulled all the unique kinda tricks I am used to seeing TR do to a guitar. It was so fun to watch and he had the audience eating out of his hand. I knew we were in for a good nite when they were treating unique opener so respectfully. I hear that Ithaca has a pretty major music school community here and it seemed to show tonite as the audience seemed to be there to appreciate music as opposed to hang out, get drunk and yuk it up. It's great when you can get artists like TR and Hank in front of true music fans as those are their best audiences. THANK YOU Hank for the amazing performance and for setting the stage so well for TR to conquer Ithaca again. Here is a look at TR's setlist:
A Crazy Person Is Standing Next To You Captain Gold Beef Irony Betrayal This Is The One Che Dissident OR Decline Indoctrinate A Very Filling Death Sandwich Made Of Cold Cuts And Lonely Balanced By A Dark Chocolate Truffle Filled With Rich Creamy Sweetness ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sinceritox Ancestors Coco Metamilf OR Stranger Death Squad TV ---------------------------- The Ending Keeps Lasting Longer And Longer-Over And Over-In Space(Noone Can Hear You Scream) To The Next Imperm OR Chatter OR ? Smells So Sweet Stake Thru The Heart ----------------------------- Revolution All Around Doom White House Denies ------------------------------ Ocean
Here are the corrections I am aware of: Dissident was played NOT Decline. Metamilf(Metamorphosis?) was played NOT Stranger. Imperm NOT Chatterbox. Stream was thrown in after White House Denies for good measure. Ocean rounded out the set as the encore but not before TR took us on a trip to slide land. TR started the encore with a really great slide piece that I figured was leading into Levee but it kept going and going and became it's own entity. I will call it slide space. After that he played a scorching version of Ocean. Thats about all I can remember as I am half asleep and need to get myself to bed. Really looking forward to Woodstock tomorrow.
I would like to thank Will, Phil, Brian, Al and the rest of the staff at Castaways for making us feel so welcome. A very professional scene you have there. Always a pleasure. Great to see you guys again and hope we can do it again in the not too distant future. |

Posted - 05/10/2007 : 12:12:18 PM Ok thanks will do. Just thought I'd add a little more to my review. I was very happy that he played a bunch of songs that I know. That being said, he could pretty much play anything and I would like it so the songs I didn't know I could still appreciate. I wanted to hear Chatterbox but Impermeance is also a favorite of mine so no complaints! Overall, a great experience and it was really exciting to meet Tim after the show. |

As far as copies of the show, audio typically ends up on archive.org, with video being available via B&P with DVDs. Keep your ear to the ground and it will turn up. |

Posted - 05/09/2007 : 8:56:27 PM This was my first Tim show (and this is my first post!). I absolutely love so many of Tim's songs. As guitar players, my friends and I were in awe of Tim all night. I literally had my jaw dropped most of the night. I will certainly go to see him again ASAP. I can't wait for audio or video on this. If anyone knows anything about it, let me know. |
