Posted - 04/29/2007 : 9:46:36 PM It was a packed "saturday nite bar crowd", very enthusiastic and most of the crowd seemed to be paying attention and really into the show. Sadly they were "vocally" into the show. TR's performance was devastating and I think alot of that had to do with playing to such an energetic room. Peter Prince, who opened the show had gotten the crowd really worked up as we have come to expect. Sadly there seemed to be alot of alcohol involved as well. LOL Oh well, it's what we expect from a Saturday nite in a bar-type enviroment. Hence the term. LOL TR's set looked something like this:
A Disturbing Force Finding Closure Come Together Betrayal The Truth Che This Is The One The Letter - Barabas Prepare Your Own Escape Routes Smurf People --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sinceritox Ancestors Stream Baggage Claim Coco Slide Intro: Death Squad TV ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Use As An Antiseptic Gargle Or Rinse To The Next Soul Sacrifice Smells So Sweet Neurospasticity Modulatoring Conflict Resolution --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hands Full Doom Ocean Hold On I'm Vampin' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- xoxox Runnin' Away Home
It seems as though everything was played pretty much as listed. Runnin' Away was the encore. Home was not visited. I was happy to see that The Box Tops "The Letter" finally made it into the set and what a scorcher it was. It was bluesier than I would have expected and when I queried TR about it he said that his was more influenced by Joe Cocker's version than the original. As did Donovan's "Barabajagal" which is just out and out FUNKY! On Donovan's version the back-up band for that track(as well as a few others from that album) is The Jeff Beck Group featuring Ron Wood so you know this was a fave of mine growing up. Jeff Beck and Ron Wood, you can't get much better, unless of course you can get TR, and last nite we did. Another new one from tonite was TR's cover of Santana's Soul Sacrifice. He had played this many TIMes in the past with TR3 but I think this was the first solo acoustic performance. Hold On, I'm Vampin' raged tonite. I think Peter's "pure soul" affected TR tonite and brought out a quite soulful, groovy version of Hold On. I found out later that while TR was playing it Peter was in the dressing room pulling his hair out trying to decide if he should run out on stage and join TR on vocals for that one. That song is of course right up Peter's alley. Had I been backstage I would have dragged him onstage just to see it. LOL Had it happened I would have been a little bummed as the show was not recorded. All the folks that had requested either didn't show or whatever and so we were left without a recording from this evening. I would have been excited to see Peter join TR onstage for that one but would have been crushed that such an event was not captured for all to enjoy. Oh well, I am sure it will happen at some point in the future. You can bet that next TIMe we play with Peter I will be pushing him onstage with TR. LOL
By now I am sure you are asking, "....but Fluffy, how was Peter?" "Glad you asked!" Peter was unbelieveable as always, dare I say, SMOOVE!!! Peter is always so at ease on stage and never fails to get the audience worked into a frenzy within a couple of songs. Tonite was no different, he was on the top of his game. He streaked thru a set that was at TIMes rockin' while never losing that soulful swagger that is sooooo Peter Prince. If you haven't seen him before made sure you do. Peter's set looked something like this:
New York City So Shy Miss The Train Day In The Life The Gift Bag A Day Habit Alien Vacation Part Of A Man Molly-->Orion-->Molly Catskill Mountain Railroad Friends
Peter was joined onstage for few songs by the house soundman, Jason, who did a great job both as soundman and as mandolin player. Jason has his own band, Wooden Spoon. He gave me a CD but I haven't listened to it yet. Speaking of CD's, Peter has a new CD that is SOLO ACOUSTIC, his first solo acoustic CD. His previous albums are all with his band Moon Boot Lover. I had always been pushing for a solo acoustic release from Peter as I have only ever seen him solo live and felt he needed to show that side of his talent as well. I am happy to say that that day has come. I am honored to say that for that CD he used one of my pics of him as the cover art for that CD. Not only the cover but the photos inside as well. Makes my 4th album cover credit. Maybe I missed my calling. Now if I could just get paid for it. LOL The photo he used is from a bunch of photos that I took of Peter while he was on TouR with us Have a look:
As always, Zee and his crew took amazing care of us and again provided us with what is prolly the best meal we have ever had on the road. My compliments to the chef!!! Everything was fantastic, right down to the fresh bread and homemade hummus and baba ganoge. Trying to describe it would not do it justice, you really had to be there and TASTE it to get the full picture.
Also worthy of note, TR played some ELECTRIC tonite. "But Fluffy, how is that possible? It was a solo acoustic performance!" you may ask. Well indeed it was, BUT Peter brought along his Strat and a Tascam recorder and had TR lay down a couple of solos over one of his songs, "MotherFinger". That song is FUNKY as hell! Sounded to me like it could have been a long lost Sly and the Family Stone track. motherfunkin' FUNKY! TR ran offstage right after his encore and backstage straight into the arms of Peter's strat and blazed thru 2 scorching solos over Motherfinger. It will be interesting to see what of the recording he ends up using. Something for all to look forward to, new Peter Prince featuring TR on a track. Let's hope it's SOON!
So all around a great nite despite the "saturday nite bar crowd" which may have only SEEMED worse than normal given the level of quiet at the last 2 shows of which I had become quite a accustomed. As I mentioned before, sadly it was not recorded but given the level of enthusiasm of the crowd maybe that turned out to be for the best. Naw, I would still like to have a recording dammit. LOL.......uh-oh, evil monkey is back, gotta go!
