What a great show! This is the first of Tim's newest tours that I've seen this year. His set list was pretty standard for what he's been playing recently.

Tim played Ohio, which I've never heard live. He also played The Truth, Che, Ancestors, Stream, Doom, Sinceritox, Kundalini Bonfire, Ocean, and others that I can't recall at the moment. The encore consisted of an amazing version of Hold On I'm coming. It started off at a really slow tempo and he only played slide accompaniment to the vocals instead of the normal chords he plays. Then he ripped into the normal version. He also played at least 4 of his new songs that I mentioned in the New Songs thread (Coco In The Wild, The White House Denies, Drivin Me Crazy, and Death Squad TV).

All-in-all the crowd was pretty good. Kind of small, but generally very quiet. And they even clapped along to some of his bluesier songs, which was pretty cool. There was some guy who kept yelling, "Where's Dave?" which pissed some people off. And someone requested "Jimi Thing"...also kind of annoying. But that's pretty standard for Tim's shows these days...especially so close to coming off the Europe tour with Dave.

Matt Winn (and only Matt) opened for Tim. It was a really stellar show. He was great with the crowd, and everyone seemed really receptive of his style. A bunch of people bought his CD (myself included). I would highly (HIGHLY) recommend getting it. It really is very good!

I would have to say that it was one of the better shows I've seen in a while. I loved all of the new songs...

OK...now I know I'm not crazy!! Well, at least not totally crazy. It just took the patience to re-listen to the show from the beginning to the end.

I knew I remembered hearing "Death Squad TV" lyrics at this show...and I was right (F-You everyone who doubted!)!!

At the 3:16 mark of "Hands Full" Tim changes themes. And he starts singing the following:

Death Squad TV
On 24 hours while you sleep.
Death Squad TV
On 24 hours while you sleep.

Then I can't figure out the rest...

Regardless, I don't know if that means the playlist should be changed or not.

But it was definitely in there!

BOOYAH bitches!!

you're RIGHT kevin. That is "Antichrist Superstar" from Marilyn Manson's album Antichrist Superstar

or at least that is what I think

I'm watching the DVD and noticed that Tim plays a Marilyn Manson song as the intro to Kundalini Bonfire. I can't remember the name of the tune, I'll have to give my copy of Antichrist Superstar a spin!

The highlight of the night for me was Ohio. Tim came on and just summoned energy from outer space as the mooger fooger and other strange modulators added a hypnotic element I've never seen before. It was sort of like a hybrid between a guitar, a telephone, a high-powered laser beam, a cement truck, and a bunch of grapes, all taking turns being shot out of a cannon via the speakers at the Recher. I swear, in the middle of a melody phrade, Tim would switch in and out of these effects and sent me reeling. I have never had such a trip before at any show.

I noticed that Tim did more singing tonight than I've seen before. He played at least four songs I hadn't heard before, and each one of them was fantastic. I don't know all of the names yet so I can't say for sure which ones I liked the most. I do remember one very dramatic introduction to a song with various chilling chords being played very slowly, and building up to the song's main part. It was really moving.

Che was another highlight for me, because although I don't own a recording of this song (besides a few from the archives), I have finally heard it enough times to know the whole structure of the song, and I appreciate it more each time I hear it. I really think I might like that one almost as much as Stranger in a Strained Land.

During Stream, my roommate Nick said "Sometimes I think Tim plays like this just to make somebody say 'uncle.' "
Speaking of Nick, I was trying to give him a short plug by mentioning his upstart business which is online at www.theartdonor.com He is selling some t-shirts and some other items that might be of interest to people like us on the board (especially the 'Prosthetic Army' shirt).

This show didn't have quite as packed a house as last summer in the same room. Still, the energy was good, and I felt like I got a very good response from the crowd. From my recollection, I played (untitled song that was called "Marooned" on the setlist, but will have a less gloomy title later), Asymptotic Anecdote, Moscow Skyline, Bounce, Sess, Legacy and Clemmons.

As I expected, the people working the show were friendly to me and provided some tasty eats. There was one questionable character (not a staff member) who periodically made loud comments during the show. Not your typical "Stream!" or "Crash!" comments, though. He would say in a very stern, booming voice: "Hurt me, hurt me HURT ME!" I didn't understand.

What a fun night. I hope to see more reviews from others who came to the show!

I would have bet a considerable amount of money that there was some song that Tim sang about "watching TV" or something like that. I guess I assumed it was Death Squad TV. Oh well...

Indeed it was a smaller crowd for such a large room, which I am sure made the crowd seem smaller than it was, but we were competing with a SOLD OUT Widespread Panic show around the corner. Funny, that happened 3 TIMes on this TouR. Also while we were in Lawrence, WP was doing 2 nites in KC. I had a few people at that show tell me that they chose to come see TR but all their friends were in KC seeing WP. Oh well, it happens someTIMes. I think the smaller crowd made for a better show as there wasn't as much yelling and talking as we are accustomed to. So not a BAD thing. LOL TR performed a helluva set and here is what the setlist looked like:

It Appeared to Me As If In A Dream
Betrayal
Truth
Che
Ohio-
Indoctrinate
Bird Calls of the Rich and Famous
---------------------------------------
Sinceritox
Ancestors
Coco
Scarab
Streeeek U-
White House - Slide
-----------------------------------------
Vertical Dementia
This Life to the Next
Kundalini
AntiChrist Supperstore
Drivin Me Crazy - Doghouse
--------------------------------------------
Hands Full
Death Squad
Doom
Ocean ------
Hold On

TR also stuck in the lyrics to "They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha" over one of his special noise/loop creations. It was very exciting and gave us a big chuckle. That boy is CRAZY, on the CRAZY pills!

Special Thanx to Matt Winn for always being wonderful company and a FANTASTIC compliment to TR. It's always a pleasure.

Thanx to gnome for getting the ball rolling on this thread with a review as I was WAY outta sorts on this evening. As I returned to the east coast everything was in full bloom and allergies were kicking my ass. The worst of it was that nite in Baltimore. I was really suffering. So you all know, I was feeling quite a bit better today. Not sure if the levels are down or if I am just reaclimating but whatever, I am not sneezing as much and my sinus' are not blocked to point of headache. Very unpleasant, I assure you.

I'm sure you're right...I was going off of memory trying to remember lyrics and looking at some of the new songs he's been playing.

Whatever that 4th song was...it was great!
