Talk about a lesson in contrasts. LOL

So we left Telluride to embark upon our 7 hour drive to Denver on Saturday, our day off, or Drive Day, if you will. Absolutely beautiful drive thru the wilds of CO on our way to I-70 that would take us into Denver. Well I-70 started off wonderful as well, but by the TIMe we hit the 3 passes that you cross on the drive from Grand Junction to Denver we were in snowy, icy conditions. So much so that tire chains were required for passage. Suffice it to say, slow going on icy, snowy mountain roads. YIKES! Worst or best of it, depending upon how you choose to look at it was about 50 minutes stuck behind a rolling roadblock of 3 snowplows going about 20 miles an hour. OH BOY! Guess it was prolly safer being behind them than in front of them as the roads were cleared(to some degree) and sanded right in front of us which made me feel better about our odds of a safe arrival but still it's annoying being stuck going so slow for so long. In the end we made it safely without to much delay and wonderful, white-knuckle story to tell our friends. We arrived at our hotel about midnite to find ourselves in the midst of a military ball and many participants from a big Pow-Wow that was going on in town. How nice to be among so many First Americans in our hotel.(I personally could do without the military element in their dress blues looking down their noses at the "long-hairs" LOL)

I mentioned earlier "contrast". Well the contrast was the show. Soundcheck went smooth as silk and the room sounded absolutely beautiful and this TIMe the audience was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Rob Drabkin opened again and both he and TR were so happy to be playing for an audience who cared and actually listened. Both had a great nite with superior performances considering their better frames of mind. Rob had a wonderful set that included a cello player on some songs and even his dad sat in on sax for a few. Really great show. We were talking to Rob's dad in the dressing room while he waited to go on and we had joked that it would be fun to send TR out onstage with the sad when he introduced his dad and called him out to the stage. That morphed into Rew going out onstage as Rob's dad and that morphed into Rob's dad going out on stage with Rew's spiked wristbands and cowboy hat on. We figured any of those scenarios would have really caught Rob off-guard. Sadly, none of them came to pass but it gave us all a good laugh in the dressing room. The Soiled Dove took awesome care of us as always. They really love having TR there. It's a great room, with an amazing sound system and sound engineer. Thanx Chris! He had TR sounding incredible. It is definitely a "listeners" room. Chad did a great job with the lights as well. Mike, Rhett, Chris and their staff treated us like royalty, plus it's just great to work with such consumate professionals. THANX to all involved. Look forward to a return engagement. Quick sidenote for John Semon, Chris recorded the show for us and will be sending it our way soon. Hopefully I will be home someTIMe to actually receive it. LOL He said he is not sure how it came out because he had a few technical difficulties with his recording equipment but he hopes it is salvageable. Well see. As for what was played, the setlist looked something like this and think TR stuck to it pretty much:

Injected Projections
Captain Gold Tooth Ohio
Betrayal
Delicate
The Truth
This Life To the Next (NEW)
Astral Scatterings
---------------------------------
Sinceritox
Coco In The Wild (NEW, different name than last nite, same song)
As Farts We Can See
(If necessary whip out the sausage)
White House Denies (NEW)
Sparky (NEW) OR Try
Axiom of Maria
----------------------------------
Omnidimensional Fortress
Wayfarer
Drivin Me Crazy (NEW)
Crazy Piss Underdose
-----------------------------------
Levee Breaks
Death Squad TV (NEW)
Ocean
You Don't Know Don't Know What
Anything Else That Comes To Mind At This Moment-------
------------------------------------
At Times
Just One Fix OR Kundalini Snakes

As a lesson in contasts, tonite could not have been any more different than our gig in Telluride. Maybe it also had something to do with Friday nite, drunken, obnoxious, fratboy-type crowd vs the Sunday nite listener, non-party type crowd. Whatever it was, I'll take it over a Friday-nite-in-Telluride type crowd any day of the week. PEACE OUT!

SomeTIMes you have to experience a really bad scene to fully appreciate the good ones, glad to hear this show was better. Thanks for such a great reveiew. I enjoy them so much, and it makes not being able to be there less of a bummer. All the best for the rest of the tour, safe travels, happy trails....Peace, Robin

"I would like to introduce my father, Dr. Harry Drabkin MD, esteemed researcher and future head of Medical Oncology Division at University of South Carolina." To have him appear with cowboy hat and a spiked wristband would have been the highlight of my life. LOL!

This night was one of the most memorable live music experiences i have ever had. TR summarized the crowd and night beautifully, "you are the perfect audience."

A night to remember always, not a thing could have been better (except of coarse the dressing room was an ice box)

Great review Fluffy!

yeah, i love the the Soiled Dove. maybe it has to do with it be fairly new. but the last time he was there it was fairly noisy because it was a packed house but it wasn't loud because of people being punks and calling stuff out to Tim, just a crap load of college kids drinking and socializing.

I wish I had been there at that military ball! I would have come up in my mess dress and given you all big hugs. And taken photos with you and all that. Anything to annoy the "holier than thou" portion of the military.
