After a rocky start for me and Rew getting out of DC(3 rental vehicles later, UGGGHHH) we made it to Dayton with not other problems other than NO sleep. Par for the course I assure you. LOL TR had a wonderful performance tonite in Dayton. As you may remember we always have GREAT things to say about Canal Street Tavern as it is a listeners room. I am sure EnthuTIMsiast and a few others will back me up on this. Tonite was no different, maybe a bit of a smaller crowd than usual but I am told there was alot going on in town or at least nearby. Still the show was stellar. Given the already great sound in the room, this was TR's first TIMe in CST with the new Aura pedal and it really shined. I have noticed that more and more soundmen are telling me after soundcheck how easy soundcheck is now that TR is using that pedal. So little for them to do EQing-wise. It sounded absolutely sweet in CST tonite. Luckily, Jerry, who has recorded the last 2 performances at CST showed up again tonite and captured it with 2 new cameras and brand new recording equipment to capture audio from the board. The finished product for this show should be amazing. TR was having a really good TIMe tonite as well. As I said it was a quiet crowd and very respectful but full of enthusiasm at all the right places. They seemed completely blown away by TR. I was watching peoples faces as TR delivered a scorching set. Even the owner of the club commented about how "on it" TR was tonite, "by far the best show of the 3 he has done". THANX Mick, you ROCK! As does your staff who never cease to treat us like family everyTIMe we are there. So highlight for me tonite was TR's opener which was a hodgepodge of Grand Funk I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home mixed with Neil Young After the Goldrush. WOW! Again, as I have noted before of late, TR really is experimenting with Stream and tonite was no exception. There were lots of what I like to call "variant" versions of songs tonite. Adlibbed little parts and sections in songs we all know and love. As I mentioned earlier TR seemed to be in a great mood and it showed in his banter with the audience and the performance in general. He seemed to be having alot of FUN! AS we all were. So here is the setlist as it appeared in front of TR:

01)Freak Went Flyogram
02)Im Your Captain
03)After the Goldrush
04)Betrayal
05)Che
06)The Truth
07)Indoctrinate
08)Unconquerable World
-------------------------
09)Axiom
10)Revolution All Around
11)Sinceritox
12)Devils Bed
13)Scream - You Maybe Don't Know
14)Ode To The Box
15)Hold On
-------------------------
16)What Would Mooger Foogendo
17)Dissolution
18)666 or At Times These Times (BOTH PLAYED)
19)Fast Forward Reverse Backward
---------------------------
20)Hands Full
21)Doom
22)Levee Broke Slide
---------------------------
Kundalini

Even though it wasn't on the setlist, Chris Whitley's Hotel Vast Horizon was also played as part of the encore. (c)Rew mentioned that that was the highlight of the nite for him. He said it had special meaning for him tonite as during TR's set I got a call letting me know that Rew and I had lost another dear friend today. Luckily TR's music has a way of making me quite happy, joyful and thankful so I was able get thru the evening despite the bad news. Music is truly a beautiful thing, especially TR's, for me!

More good news, at the end of the nite, Jerry let me know he would be coming to the Athens show tomorrow nite as well. For those of you who have already forgotten who Jerry is, he is the guy I mentioned earlier who recorded tonites show. You know that means, if he makes it, tomorrows show will be captured as well. Keep your fingers crossed!

awesome review fluffy..sorry to hear of your loss of a friend.

I couldn't make it to tonights show but really wish i had now. I bet tim gets on satge in about less then 1 hour.

About the canal street tavern show. I have seen tim there 3 times and this was by far the best i have seen yet. The crowd was perfect. Everyone who was there was there to see and listen to tim. Not a word was spoken during quite parts of the show. The audio turned out perfect! Tim's new pedal sounds great..sooo clear. I was really amazed by how good that place was sounding for tim. During one part of the show i heard some guy behind me quitely ask his friend..."is that a guitar"? i love those weird sounds tim can play with that thing...it's just perfect.

after the show I scored a small improv video interview with tim. fluffy even got in on the action then rew gets in on some footage !!! I'll post some clips on youtube soon!!

after the small interview, i meet some girl who was soo scared to meet tim. SHe loves his music and was really shaking...i forced her to go say hi to tim and we snapped a couple of photo's. SHe was soo happy that she got the courage to meet him. some people get funny around famous people.

Her face was priceless when she was face to face with tim!!

ahhaha i can see it now.

on a side note
I hope tim plays a solo gig at VEGOOOSE!!

Very cool review! Nice about the versions of Stream, the improv's and the use of the pedal. Wish there was a venue like that near where I live!

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. Unfortunately the older one gets, the more often that happens. Always a reminder to celebrate and enjoy life while we can and not let precious moments pass us by, which is what you did via TR's music!

Being someone who's going to tonights show, i'd be very happy with that setlist Nice to see After the Goldrush back and I'm 0/6 on seeing Kundalini at shows i've been to.
