Posted - 07/25/2006 : 5:01:58 PM Last but not least, our VA Beach show. Well I wasn't there for the last performance in VA Beach as I was in Europe with The Machine but I hear it was quite a different experience from this TIMe thru. Not in bad way, just different. First thing, VA Beach in Nov is quite different than VA Beach in July. TR and (c)Rew said it was like a ghost town the last TIMe they were in VA Beach even thought the show was well attended. Well this show was also well attended but VA Beach was hopping. Beach towns in summer are just CRAZY! Oh and did I mention HOT? It was a sweltering sweatbox in VA Beach in July. As the dressing room had no A/C we opted to head back to the hotel to kill TIMe until showTIMe. We also had TR's daughter Eura with us so that was another factor. Back at the hotel after a big scare at check-in(they kept trying to tell me we didn't have rooms)we got to our rooms just in TIMe for huge fireworks display right in front of our hotel out on the water. We had a beachfront hotel and right in front of us on the water they were shooting off all these great fireworks. It was really beautiful. Glad we caught it. After that and a bit more hanging out it was back to the gig. WHOOOOOOAA! was it hot in that place once we got back to the crowded room. Eura ended up sitting on the side of the stage while her dad played and i couldn't tell who looked more miserable up there under the hot lights. TR got into the zone and managed to churn out a blistering set given the sweaty, HOT conditions. It really took it out of him. We had tried to return to the dressing room before TR went on but it was now almost unbearable up there so I opted to have TR and Eura head back to the hotel as soon as the show was over. Like "big Rockstars" I had Rew waiting right outside the door onto the stage after the set and and after the set it was out the door, put chocolate milk shakes and ice in TR's and Eura's hands and put them into the waiting vehicle to be whisked back to the hotel. I packed up the stage until (c)Rew returned and he finished and I went to settle. All it all it was a great nite despite the heat. The audience seemed to endure the heat much better than us. I guess they are used to it. We weren't LOL. Anyway, here is the setlist from the final show of this run:
Wings of Desire Come Together/Ohio Betrayal The Truth Che Time Has Told Me Indoctrinate Chickens In Space ----------------------- Vantage Point Hands Full Doom Revolution If the Ocean Hold On ----------------------- Protons With Poultrylike Qualities Come To Daddy 666 Kundalini Hotel? At Times? ------------------------- Stream You Don't Know Ancestors ------------------------- Cold Sweat (with birdsong intro) The Other Ship is Not Landing ------------------------------ Chatterbox - All You Need - Left Hand of Darkness
I think I mentioned this in another review, but I think this was the show where I heard TR do Come To Daddy into 666 and can I say these songs go together so well. I think I mentioned in another thread that 666 was essentially inspired musically by Come To Daddy so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are so compatible.
Thanx to Jason and Ricki for taking such good care of us and taking care of all our needs. Such hospitality is greatly appreciated on the road. The Jewish Mothers whole staff was quite helpful and supportive. Just wish they had an air conditioner in the dressing room. LOL maybe next TIMe(if we are there in the summer that is).
