Posted - 07/11/2006 : 3:11:49 PM Well after my little bit of research before the TouR started I predicted we would have some great support acts. Well tonite was no different. Tonite was a girl named Roni Zagoria who used to play with a band called R.Z and the Whole Lotta Man Band but apparently now her band is defunkt and she is back to performing solo. She is a piano player and quite an amazing one. She also has an amazing voice. Her originals were awesome but not knowing her music the song that really stood out for me was her piano/vocal version of Led Zeppelin "Going Back to Cali"...ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! TR was quite impressed. I highly recommend checking her out at her myspace page:
We have been blessed with beautiful days and weather, not much humidity in parts of the country you expect to have quite a bit. Charleston was no exception. The Pour House is an awesome venue with great staff how treated us so nice. The dinner we had from the menu in-house was AMAZING. The chef is apparently the owners wife and all I can say is what a lucky man. I had fried plantains and probably the BEST cuban sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of eating. So ya know, TT Reynolds in Fairfax, VA also makes a killer one. Anyway, TR had a steller show in Charleston, great crowd, for the most part respectful, but it was definitely a bar and unfortunately the stage was kinda low so you know what happens to the folks more than about 6 people back, they can't see as well so there was some room chatter, but overall not too much. I had discovered a sombrero when I first arrived for soundcheck that I preceded to wear all nite. I was informed toward the end of the evening by one of the bartenders that "You know Fluffy, the hat looks great on you but it has to stay here after the show." I had no intention of taking it and let him know I planned to return it at settlement. Shortly after we talked I guess he could see the sadness in my face because he brought me a shot and we did it together. Everyone agreed that the sombrero looked great and TR said to make sure we got a picture but of course we didn't. DOAH! I pointed out later that as much as I liked the sombrero I think I would rather have flashier one, maybe in purple with lots of shiny silver stuff on it. Yeah, now thats the ticket. I returned the sombrero so karmically speaking I am sure one more suited to me specifically will enter my life. LOL By the way, it looked great on me. Rew with his cowboy hat and I looked like something out of an old western crossed with a pirate movie. LOL I don't think the audience knew what to think when we went out on stage to set up for TR's set after Roni. So the setlist for the evening was:
Wide Open Hug Indoctrinate Che The Truth Betrayal Into Infinity Deflated Expectations ------------------------- Try A Little Harder Hands Full Doom War Must End If the Ocean Had It's Way Hold On ------------------------- Warped Space Hidden Variables 666 A Brief History of Slime At Times, These Times, Sometimes Kundalini ---------------------------------- Ancestors Stream - $10 (Devils Bed?) Revolution All Around Spastic Slide Erection ------------------------------ Crazy Pill Train.....Leavin Town Cold Sweat - Front Door
Devil's Bed is a Daniel Lanois cover and should probably be added to the Master Cover's List.
To my knowledge, unless TR played it in Santa Fe, "At Times, These Times, Sometimes" is the first performance LIVE of this TR original.
This show was also recorded to CD from the soundboard. Unfortunately the mix thru the soundboard wasn't great so the vocals are kinda low. This is often a problem with straight soundboard recordings as they sound so different to how it actually sounds in the room. Sounds like we missed most of Kundalini when the CD's were switched but I will have to examine and determine for sure when I have more TIMe.
Interesting bit 'o' trivia, as I mentioned, the staff and venue were awesome. I was not there with TR and (c)Rew when they played there last TIMe, but we were talking after the show in the van about what a great TIMe we had there and TR said he remembered having a great TIMe last TIMe as well, so much so that it inspired him to start writing Arroyo the last TIMe they played there.

Posted - 07/11/2006 : 3:55:18 PM Wow! Sleeping in the Devil's Bed is a great song! It's funny I was listening to that album particularly "Still Learning How to Crawl" and I was thinking about Tim! Can't wait to hear it!
