what a great fucking time i had last night!

since the last time my wife and i had seen tim was in the fall of 2000, we decided to get tickets to both sets last night.

i had never been to the finale before, even though it turns out it is owned by the guy who is the chairman of the board at the place i work. it was a nice place. very classy and, i would assume, expensive, but i didn't buy much (even though ticketmaster said there was a $5 minimum on food and drink.)

we arrived early - before doors opened to the public - so that we could set up the videotaping equipment. we wound up having a spot not too far from the stage, right by the entrance. it was a great spot to tape from in terms of angle and picture quality, but it kind of sucked in that 'we're blocking the door' sense, so there is occasionally a head walking by to get out the door.

anyway, the place was packed - completely sold out. so much so that tim's guest list people didn't really have a seat. i don't know what happened for sure, but it looked like the finale had just overbooked.

my wife and i wound up giving our seats to tim's parents and we just stood by the door by our camera rig for the night... this was very cool, as we got to meet tim's parents and talk with them briefly, and then the lady who appeared to be in charge of the floor comp'd our food and drinks since we took one for the team.

the crowd, on average, was OK. the crowd for the first set was a little older and a little more respectful, but not very energetic. the crowd for the second set was a little younger, a little drunker, and a little more annoying, but appeared to enjoy the show more. it's kind of a trade off, i guess - greg howard said that he enjoyed the second set's crowd more from a performer's point of view, but i enjoyed the first crowd more from a 'putting up with drunk people' point of view.

both sets were fantastic. i don't remember exactly what was played, but i do remember that between the two sets, everything that i could think of that i wanted to hear was played. i'll always love my tim in the acoustic flavor, but the electric flavor was just as impressive and very much rocking.

this was my first time seeing greg howard, and i was very much impressed. again, i didn't know any of the songs, but the performace was great. i got to meet and talk with him after the show for just a little bit while he was selling merch and stuff, and he seems like a hell of a nice guy. kind of timid, kind of shy, maybe. but he plays the stick like a beast, like he's infused with some higher power of stick playing goodness. much like how tim plays a guitar, i suppose.

i got to meet enthuTIMsiast (sp?) last night, he's a hell of a nice guy too. the lucky bastard got to sit on the stage for the second set. i'm sure the view was very nice, and if i recall correctly, i think i've got a picture or two of him up there.

last but not least, both of greg's and tim's sets were video taped by us for a fan-dvd. i took a look at the footage last night, and i'm happy with the angles and shots, but the audio may need some work. it sounds OK, but the crowd around us gets a little loud sometimes. i know someone that might help me remaster the audio if i buy him a case of beer or so, so i might do that before i release the DVD so it sounds better. i also plan on ripping the audio from the video stream and releasing it in .shn or .flac or something. again, this might not happen until after i look into getting it remastered.

i have lots of pictures/screen shots that i'm sorting through right now, and as soon as i'm done, i'll upload some of them for y'all to see.

yeah, progress as promised. i've just been having a hard time actually finding time to sit and work on it. Hopefully I'll be able to work on it this weekend, it's almost done, i swear!

I'll let y'all know when it's ready to roll - i'm going to need some help spreading this when it's ready.

we're still kind of hammering out menus and what pictures are going to be used and stuff like that. there's a few that i really liked, but i can't remember off the top of my head. i think my favorite was the man's machines.

hey, i've got a copy of the show up in MP3 that I'd like you to take a listen to and help me with song names, if you have the time. it's just one big MP3, and the quality is intentionally kind of shitty to save space on the server, but it's good enough to get the job done.

let me know if you think you'll have time and i'll point you in the right direction.

More video!

This is the encore of the first Tim set with guest Greg Howard.

I don't know if this is actually a song or just an improvisation. It sounds as if it could be, well, improvisational, but I don't really know for sure.

My web host significantly increased my monthly bandwidth by about 500%, so linking to other boards is probably OK for my bandwidth now. Please dont post it anywhere with tens of thousands of interested people.

I'll password lock the files if bandwidth REALLY becomes an issue, but it resets in nine more days anyway, so what the hell.

Alternatively, I guess you could always just browse to the directory and see what files are available from there.

http://www.gotjenkins.com/tr20050715/

As usual, I feel like the quality could be better, but enjoy!

Very nice video clip. Looks like you guys had a very great crowd too that knew when to be quiet unlike the night before! I thought the audio sounded great as well on your video sample. My audio from Martyrs didn't come out near that well. Also took the Hi8 on accident instead of digital8! Again, look forward to trying to get my hands on a copy of the show!! Great work.

Great reviews and pictures guys! My favorite picture of them all was the one of Jason and Fluffy! Ya gotta love "man-love" LOL!

Sounds like this was one hell of a tour. Really sorry I missed it!

Yousendit, so it won't be good forever. Maybe 7 days or something.

hey thanks for the reup. i'm glad you like the video quality, hopefully you won't be disappointed by the audio that accompanies it.

the MP3 that i posted is just the audio ripped from that MPEG clip. i'll probably start conversion on the entire DVD this weekend, but we'll see - i don't want to get too far ahead of myself. ;)

hope y'all enjoy,

ok

note: please DON'T post these links on other message boards... i don't have tons of bandwidth with my host, so let's consider this a 'timreynolds.com exclusive.'

i'm looking for a little feedback here.

i've converted just a little bit of the show to see how the quality turns out. here's a sample of the audio:

http://www.gotjenkins.com/tr20050715/tim.mp3

do you think it's necessary and/or worth it to try and find someone to remaster this, considering how long that could take? i personally think the audio sounds pretty good with the exception of the occasionally loud people sitting by us. i just don't know that a remaster will be able to cut that noise out.

anyway, take a listen and let me know what you think...

oh, and what the hell:

again, please don't post that link either, or i'll have to take it down.

I got a little more time to read the review and I am glad I did. I'm glad the show was taped and I'm wishing there was a little less time till I get to see Tim again.

No comments at all on either review? especially when there's a dvd of the shows involved... That sort of cuts deep...

Ok I got my pictures. Unfortunately, none of them are very good. Low light, no tripod = crappy pictures. That's my fault, of course. I'll post the few that are worthy of posting.

As for a review, I don't know what to say. Both shows were great! The first was probably not what I'd consider a "normal" TR show, because of the crowd. Not necessarily that TR's parents were there, but I think that had a good bit to do with it. The crowd seemed to give just a little golf clap after songs, and murmur "jolly good", but not really get into the music. That's fine, because I like quiet crowds. The second crowd was the other side of that. Younger, louder, and some few morons, who thankfully at least respected TR's requests, but did so too much. They started with the "TIMMAY!!" and TR stopped that right away, saying to call him "Becky, or Rebecca". Fortunately, they did. So no more "TIMMAY!". Unfortunately, they said "BECKY!" about 957 more times during the night. Once someone yelled the perinneal request, and TR waved it off, and mumbled something about having played it earlier (first show). That was the end of that.

TR had a couple of costumes. First viewed was the alien head and hand puppet. I didn't get a picture of that one, but it'll be on the dvd I'm sure. It was great. Then there was the other costumes pictured from other shows this tour. Robe, wolf head, goggles.. He never wore the wolf head, just brought it out.

The music... what can I say? It was fantastic! TR played some of my favorites, namely Rheginos, Babylon, Betrayal, Mercury Direct... And that was just the first show. Also a "more complete" version of If 6 was 9 than I can remember TR playing. Second set included other great songs. Che', Chatterbox, Flourescence (to which he referenced the St. Louis connections of the song), Danger/Doom, and FaceOff. Greg Howard joined him for both show's encores, which was cool. The first encore I liked better, because it was pure improv from what I could tell. The second encore they played together Whole Lotta Love, which was very cool, but that's all I'll say. It was great to hear, that is, but it felt like the Chapman Stick is too jazzy of an instrument to pull off a hard rock song like WLL. So at times it felt strained. But of course it was most excellent anyway.

Special thanks to Fluffy for getting me on the VERY tight guestlist. Also special thanks to Candice (I think that was her name...), who got me on the freekin' stage for the second TR set. I can't thank you enough. !! I'd sure like to try... Seriously, thank you so much!

After the show all the drunk people (of which there were not few) stayed around to talk to TR, get stuff signed, etc. I did too, but I wasn't a drunk people. TR commented on my Led Zeppelin shirt, saying how great How The West Was Won is, and that he really liked all their work, from all eras, even the late stuff. Of course since they're my favorite band, I agreed.

Unfortunately for Fluffy, things hadn't gone quite as smoothly for advancing as he'd have hoped, and his night had been quite long. I hope I was able to lighten the load Fluffy!! I mean, I didn't do anything except stand there, but I hope it helped!

That's all. I'll post pictures later. jenkins, we should get together on this... I got pictures of the setlists, which I'll be posting later. I'd still like to help any way I can, though, if even only with distribution. Email me so we can chat, when you get the chance.

This one is for "That Guy". I didn't get your name man, sorry. I edited the picture a little... Rew was in the pic, but I took him out, because I don't think he really likes being in pictures (from what I've read here, no other reason). Hope it's satisfactory man. The bottle TR is holding is that man's wine bottle, I believe. Whether or not TR had a use for the bottle, I ain't tellin'. Figured you'd like to have a copy of the second one, just for posterity.

This picture is of a nice young lady. No idea what your name is doll, sorry. She commented that she'd "be able to say that she was 'there' when the setlists pictures were taken" and so I said.. well here, we'll give you some proof. Here's your proof.

As can be readily seen from the paper, this is Set 1. So there you go. I can't say he played this point for point, but of course it's mostly right, at the least. Something I found peculiar, and asked Fluffy about... Just before TR played Betrayal, he said something like "this is a song off the new album, but in a different form." Now I just looked, and my eyes can't see Betrayal on Parallel Universe. Fluffy said that any song TR introduces as being "off the new album" he's referring to Parallel Universe. So maybe someone can help me and show me how TR meant that Betrayal is a different version of a song on Parallel Universe. ?? I'm perplexed about that one. The second option of course would be that this acoustic song is one on one of the two unreleased-but-ready albums. One can hope, I suppose. Also worth noting is that TR went from Stream into something else. I've heard Stream on a number of occasions, but I haven't heard this one. I typically hear Stream and only Stream. The outro had lyrics, but damn if I can remember them now.

Set 2. It's not labeled, but yeah. No comments necessary. (Right, you're thinking, no comments necessary on any of this stuff, eh?)

This is one of that guy wearing the Led Zeppelin shirt.

After both shows, a much relaxed Fluffy.

Some man-love. Mmm-Hmmm..

Now enough pictures of people, how about some of an Überhuman.

Like I said, not many turned out even decent. But if you like this effect, then you'll probably like most of my shots (although most are just bad enough to piss you off...)

Yes, this picture IS badass.

The man's machines.

The last one is the coolest picture I took all night, I think.

TR and GH.

My obligatory schwag picture. Since Fluffy was kind enough to get me +1 on the guestlist, I actually had to dig those out of the garbage can so I could have tickets for TR to sign.

And there you have it.

nicely played mate, I'll review in a bit, when I have my hands on my pictures...
jenkins Posted - 07/16/2005 : 4:32:01 PM
pictures can now be found here:

note: please DON'T post these links on other message boards... i don't have tons of bandwidth with my host, so let's consider this a 'timreynolds.com exclusive.'

be warned, these pictures are not very bandwidth friendly, so anyone using a dialup connection or other slow means of internet connectivity should probably not try to get these pictures.

the pictures are posted at full resolution. the three pictures labeled 'BIG' before the filename are taken with a real digital camera. the smaller pictures were taken with the remote control 'photo' function on the digital camcorder, and so are essentially screenshots of the video from the show. they are, i feel, representative of how the video came out overall.

enjoy!
