Posted - 04/10/2005 : 11:15:21 PM Another two hour drive to this show, but this time, I took the wrong road. Same name as the right one, just not "Alternate". Cost me about 1.5 hours. Anyway, no big deal, I made it in time for the show, and in time to chat with the people outside, and then get in to chat while TIM got set up. I met Kenneth outside and that was cool. There was another board person there, too, but I'll let her give her own review. I went inside and got myself set up.
That's right. I got set up. I did video for the show! No battery issues this time, but still with the same camcorder, so tapes were 30 minutes. 3 changes, but that's not the end of the world. Also, on another positive note, the sound man recorded from the board to his hard drive! What's better than that? He burned me a copy before I left! I have it now. Haven't as much as put it in my computer, but I have it. Turnaround on the video will be S L O W but I hope to make something good from it. As for the audio, if I can get in touch with Erich to track it, then it can go out asap. Otherwise, I'll have to figure that out as well.
Here's the setlist that Fluffy was kind enough to give me after the show, no point in me retyping it. It's the one that TIM wrote out. Actually in retrospect, there is a need to retype it.
Haha, really, that setlist is the setlist that the soundman gets, so he'll know when to switch what on the board (between guitars, etc). Fluffy said that this setlist is the most rare, since they always get thrown away by the soundman. So everyone bow to me. Below is the setlist TIM went by, for the most part. Toward the end, REW brought out TIM's setlist notebook, and TIM was flipping around in that book, but I'm pretty certain the list remained relatively as listed.

The show was awesome! Thursday when I saw TIM, he and I chatted a bit about the song Babylon, and the band Aphrodite's Child. I didn't ask TIM direct, but I did mention to Fluffy that I'd love to hear that song. So Fluffy came through! Thanks Fluffy! It's a great song, and I love the way TIM does it.
I should point out about that setlist... The last song was dropped. Not sure why, but the last song was Whole Lotta Love. Now if you read my other review, you'll note that I mentioned the particular use of a bow for that song. Well, it just so happened that in the backstage area (or green room or whatever) there was a cello. About halfway through the set, Rew had an epiphany. So for the encore, he delivered the bow to TIM. I don't know if TIM expected it or what, but he sure as heck played the part with it! Was awesome. So thanks to REW for bringing down the bow. It was awesome.
Huntsville was totally different from Starkville. Will Bradford (opener) said that Hville was a rocking city. He was right. I heard maybe three calls for Stream the whole night. People were dancing, and it was great. On the whole, less energy than Starkville, but the setup didn't seem as loud to me or something. That was, until TIM played All You Need Is Love, and everyone was singing along, and TIM seemed to eat that up. Playing to the crowd and stuff. The mix was about the same as normal for this tour (excepting the previous night). Half acoustic, half electric. Tonight, I might give the nod to electirc, though... I didn't note the time, but I think he probably played 45-50 min acoustic, and then the rest electric, which would have been maybe 60 minutes or so (again, I didn't time it). Again, different from the ATL show, I'd say TIM leaned toward 'face-melting' solos as compared to jazzy chord progressions. And lucky for me, that's what I like best.
What else to say... Ok, here are some pics from the show and general stuff (the catch all photo section). If you look closely at this first pic, it looks like TIM has devilish horns coming off the top of his head. Yes... that explains it... The coffee sticker on the acoustic case seems somehow fitting. Most times (both shows) I saw TIM walking around, he had coffee in his hand. Next, the obligatory guitar pics. 12 is in front, the 6 acoustic behind it. Best angle I could get. Last one (for now) is Fluffy pre-show getting the stage board set up.
These next 5 pics I've included at full res, since it's a guy getting his guitar signed. I didn't catch his name, but he was excited about the guitar, and that's cool with me. TIM played it a bit and signed it also. There are a few other signatures on the guitar also, you might be able to pick them up in one of the pics. And guy, if you come by and get these pics, stop and say hi. That's the Sharpie in TIM's mouth, FYI. More fans:
I really enjoyed the opener, Will Bradford. Probably because I got to spend a bit of time with him at the merch table. He's a really cool guy. I got a decent pic of the guitar he uses (one of two), but it's doctored to give better clarity.
FYI, I'm just listening to the show now. It looks like it's in .cda format, which I don't know well, but the second disc picks up at Face Off, and the rest is 227 MB, so I'd guess the show isn't lossy, for which I'm eternally thankful. So a lossless soundboard recording, which I can potentially (in the long term) sync with my vid... I hope it all works.
Anyway, I'll work on getting this audio out asap, via B&P, BT, FTP or whatever works. Like I said, I have to split it, track it, etc. A very fun project. And now after working on it, I realize how fun it really is! I wish I had more shows to do this way... |

If any of you guys have any new TR stuff, I'd love to get my filthy algae-covered hands on it. Check out my ETREE for a trade, or whatever. |

Thanks!! |

Posted - 04/21/2005 : 01:00:22 AM Alright Jason,
I think now with the help of the setlists that FluffY posted, and comparing it to what I remember from the webcast... you have d1t6 as "Electrto Magnetic Waves" and d1t7 as "Expanding Indefinately" I think that on the setlist, "Electro Magnetic Waves Expanding Indefinately" is one title... its just written on two lines because the name is so long. I'm fairly confident that d1t6 is "Che" now that I have seen the setlist to the webcast. I hope that makes sense. I have one or two tiny other suggestions that I'll hit you up online about. |

Actually, you will notice that on the setlist pic you posted TR neglected to write the drum program numbers on the setlist so (c)Rew was dispatched to retrieve the song bible so TR could get the right programs up for each song. That's the inside scoop! |

I'll do AIM once Kevin has heard the show and approved it. I want to make sure I didn't make any mistakes in tracking, etc... Then I can do AIM, sure, no problem.
And have you ever heard Led Zeppelin do Whole Lotta Love? Then you've heard a guitar played with a bow. |

I can't figure out how to make a FFP file, though. Every time I try I get some "bad command or file name" error. Don't know what to do. |

Posted - 04/16/2005 : 11:05:00 AM EnthuTIMsiast, I would love to get a copy of your soundboard recording. You need to get a copy of my soundboard recording from New Orleans on 4-14-05. I have finished editing it and burnt the first final copy on CD last nite (spent the better part of the day/evening working on it). In fact, I’m listening to it right now. The quality is so good that it would make a fine “official” live document of this tour. The good thing about Tipintina’s, is they blend two piezo mics in to capture some room ambience thus resulting in a warmer recording than some soundboard tapes I’ve heard. Once I finish proofing the CDs, they will be ready to get out. I am running low on blank discs and have to work all weekend, so I might not have these ready to go out until mid-week, but they will be ready soon. I need to get a couple of you guys mailing information … Erich, Kevin (can you put this gig on the archive?), enthuTIMsiast, HopefullRollingSpleefs…
Note: The information on the New Orleans gig will be repeated under that topic on the message board.

Once that's done and we're all happy with the product, I'll spread it as fast as I can.

Posted - 04/12/2005 : 2:27:40 PM teri, I have a GPS that I love and use religiously. But technically, I was on the correct road. There's an "alternate" road, and then there's the road. Usually, when a newer road gets built that aviods traffic-y areas, it gets the "main" name, and the older more PITA road gets labeled "alternate". So I stayed on the main road, but unfortunately it was the older one. More traffic, out of the way, etc. I should have known, cause I went that way recently, but I just was paying too close attention.
But yeah, I love the GPS I have. It's amazingly helpful. Especially at the Starkville show. On the way home I just zoned out, and did a "trackback" with the gps, so I just looked at it for when I would have to turn soon. :)
About the recording (especially for Kevin and Erich) ~ I'd love to get the last couple of songs named... One I have no idea about (not even listed on the setlist) and another is listed but I am not familiar with the song. (Cher on the picture). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kevin and Erich, if you help me, I'll mail you both copies for the help. |

Posted - 04/12/2005 : 1:55:20 PM The more I listen to this show to track it, the better I think it is. Might honestly be the best TR recording I have. But I love SBDs... little audience.
And if I ever manage to get the video converted, you'll get to see TIM use the bow. Unfortunately and obviously, my vid angle was the same as my camera angle, so all you see is him bowing from the back. Still cool. |

Posted - 04/12/2005 : 02:15:12 AM quote: why is DOOM labeled Danger/DOOM instead of just Doom? Am I misunderstanding part of the song
Back in 2001 when TR debuted this song on the baritone guitar, he played the song "Danger Will Robinson" as an intro to Doom. Now the song Danger has been shortened into just an intro to the soong Doom, thus you have Danger/Doom. |

Posted - 04/12/2005 : 12:31:06 AM Anyone know anything about the song on that setlist "Betrayal"? I can't find it anywhere, not even the new album. So I'm guessing it's a new acoustic song. Sounds to me like a conglomeration of quite a few songs DMB is famous for. Dunno...
Also, why is DOOM labeled Danger/DOOM instead of just Doom? Am I misunderstanding part of the song? |

Posted - 04/11/2005 : 4:41:58 PM I'm sure that would have been a very interesting meal to say the least. And you're right... you shouldn't have told me about it. Not now anyway. If you're going to tell me then tell me last night. But it's ok. Ultimately it's my fault for not sticking around longer after the show. After being up pretty much all night Saturday I had to regroup yesterday. I did nothing all day long and it was great! I hope to do it again sometime soon. But the harsh reality of Monday has indeed set in. The good news... I only have an hour and 20 minutes left at this stinking outpost. |

Posted - 04/11/2005 : 4:25:54 PM Kenneth, if you'd have waited with the rest of us, you could have had that dinner at Waffle House with Fluffy, Rew and TIM. That's where they went after the show. I shouldn't have told you that, eh? I was gonna go, but after driving around for a bit and realizing how late it really was, I decided I'd better not, and so I cut out. I sort of regret that, because it was 5am when I got home anyway, so what would another hour hurt? And how often does one get to eat at Waffle House with such a nice crew of guys? Yep, I regret that one. |
Kenneth |
Posted - 04/11/2005 : 3:54:20 PM Jason, Don't worry about not being able to get me in with you. No big deal. I didn't mind having to wait outside with all the commoners and unpriveledged. It was easy getting in and getting up to the front though. While several people were more interested in seeing how drunk they were going to get I figured I would just hang around the front of the stage to assure myself of a good spot. I heard a couple of shouts for Stream but not as bad as I've heard before. Apparently, the town drunk was behind me for part of the show but I tried to tune him out. Other than that I would have to say the crowd was pretty good. I wanted to hang around after but it was already in the wee hours of the morning and of course I had to hit up Waffle House on the way home. It's so good as you sit there and eat but then when you're done you realize you've made a huge mistake. But I digress... Anyway, I finally got home around 3:30 in the am. I'll let you all know how the B'ham show turns out. I'm not as detailed as Jason so don't expect a review as good as his. Peace out... |

Is it just me or did Tim dye his hair black?
and on a personal note, Jason, you look a bit slimmed down from when I saw you in CA, not that you you looked big or anything, I dunno I guess you just look in good health in those pics.
PS Yes, Babylon is a hell of a JAM!
Thanks Kevin, the review was fun. I have never tracked a show, so if I try and don't have much luck, I'll get it to Erich for him to do, since he's a master at that. As for the video, that will definately be a while. On the order of months. However, I watched a little of it yesterday, and it looks like a heck of a good quality recording (not tooting my whistle here, as all I really did was stand and make sure it was pointed in the right area). I do hope it turns out good. Angle is suspect, especially for those of you wanting to get his fingerings. I was to his left at about a 45 degree angle, about 8 feet away on the stage. So the angle looks up at him, more or less. But I think it'll pass.
Yes, I believe TIM's hair had some help being as black as it is.
And on the personal note, thanks man! Yeah, I've lost a lot of weight. About 50 pounds, give or take 5. Fluffy noticed too, and I noticed the same about him. He and I really did the same thing. Started eating better, cut out soda (I did it completely, he did it mostly), drink more water, etc. And that sort of thing did it for us! Thanks for noticing!
And yes, Babylon is awesome. So glad I have it recorded. Same with Whole Lotta Love.
