Posted - 09/20/2001 : 4:03:01 PM Last night I went through logan, ut. One of my friends said that Tim was playing that night, I had seen him in SLC surrounding areas before, so I thought it would be cool to see a free concert. However, I don't think Tim was really there, I don't know if it was the stage setup, or if Tim didn't want to be there, I must say the show was a real let down compared to his previous ones. (this one sucked) Tim also tried to make conversation while on stage. Out the blue he starts asking people to yell "fuck me," and then started talking about making a giz slide, and about how he likes to cum. (really cool) half the people got up and left. The place had been packed, but when i left there were just a few people around the stage. I wonder if that is what he wanted to do. Maybe just to many downers. Oh well, I doubt we will see him in Logan, again. Maybe I will catch him on a better day. .what a bummer |

Posted - 09/25/2001 : 07:33:23 AM Just so ya know, none of the songs were ended early. The were the standard "Tim" endings. Something else to keep in mind that this was a free show for students that ended up moving at the last minute and became a free to anyone who showed up. It is possible that alot of that crowd came expecting something more along the lines of a Tim and Dave show and just didn't want hang when they found out it was not there cup of tea. Free shows tend to attract anyone who has nothing to do on campus. Not necessarily all true Tim fans. So we are not surprised under the circumstances that people walk out. I would much rather have them leave than stick around and talk and ruin for everyone else because they are not into it.

His playing was okay, not as good as I hoped it would be. 50% of his songs were delayed effects. The others sound just like I expected, some really sweet acoustic sets, trills and scales, and slides. (kinda of ben harper approach)that was cool. The audience was not to bad, I didn't really see to many people there that were not into his music. Most of them were the college hippies going for the pink floyd experience all over again. The majority of them got up and left after the first 4-5 songs. He would stop playing all the sudden. (I guessed that the was the end of the song) it just didn't seem like he had the flow with him. He would catch it and then lose it. I didn't see to many hard core dmb fans looking to hear crash, most were there to see a genious on the guitar. The opening acts almost got more applause. The language was what really sucked, I left a little after that, I don't know how he closed up.
A "good crowd" does not include people yelling "timmah" incesantly (SP?) throughout the set, and yelling, well ANYTHING whatsoever during tim's playing or even between songs. Tim's poor performance is a direct result of the crowd, no doubt. From what fluffy says, his concentration is effected by shitty crowds (as any performers would be). At an ACOUSTIC show, its supposed to be a laid back and QUIET environment (hence the ACOUSTIC part :-)) That's where Tim's language comes from, his frustration with the crappy crowd. I dont know about you, but when I don't like someone, or theyre being rude to me, I swear sometimes, it's human nature. Besides that i think a lot of people on this board would agree that Tim's sense of humor is hilarious. But we're more familiar with him than it sounds like you are. The mentioning of "50% of his songs were delay effects" tells me that you're not familiar with Tim's music at all, and the "his songs ended all of the sudden" a lot of tims songs have abrupt endings (don't a lot of songs from a lot of artists?) Also, if he was pissed enough, and thrown off enough, he could've just aborted a song altogether. I play gigs a lot, and I know that if you feel the crowd is off, or not into the music, or just being rude, it can effect your playing. The very first gig I had was at a small coffee house, and I started around 9. I played for 3 hours, around 1130 or midnight, people started getting up and leaving...I thought it was me. I started forgetting lyrics, messing up guitar parts, etc... It was only after my set I realized I had been playing for 3 hours, and it was time for bed for a lot of people LOL. Of course they could have thought I sucked to....hehe.
In Tim's case though, sounds like these people getting up and leaving was nothing but good, a few less to scream "timmah"
Unfortunately, I think a lot of people that go to Tim shows aren't at all familiar with Tim's work, aside from a few songs he played at D&T shows. So, since they are unfamiliar with it, and are expecting to hear DMB-ish music, and they get solo acoustic, cool effects, and tim's hilarious sense of humor, they get offended, pissed, disappointed that Dave Matthews isn't there, whatever... and they take it out on Tim by bashing his show, leaving early (which sounds like a blessing for Tim with a crowd like that), and just being rude overall. They go to the show because they like tims solo from tripping billies or ants marching on live at luther college. But when they get to the show, they find out he's not just playing the "Tim" parts to DMB songs, and they get pissed. And they take it out on the artist. Ive seen some shitty bands, or bands I haven't been into. Theeres a coffe house around here (the one i mentioned above) that gives gigs to a lot of newcomers, and a lot of them haven't quite "honed" their craft yet. But if I'm not into it, or whatever, I don't boo, yell things, or even leave, I usually stay at least until the end of a song/set/decent time to leave.
I'm not trying to flame Tinnit, just trying to make you aware that you shouldn't slam an artist (especially on his message board) just because you personally aren't into him. Or because a really crappy crowd tainted the show you were at.
Well, thats all for THIS manefesto :-) Thank you for your indulgence.

Posted - 09/22/2001 : 11:49:23 AM i wonder what the show was like, that really sucks. I have a recording where this drunk fool screams for sanity for like the first part of the show, and then when he finaly (surprisingly) plays it, he screams like a baboon for the first half of the song. shut the fuck up, you screamed for the song, so dont scream durring it!!!
as for the language, you shouldve stayed. If he was obviously making stupid cracks and shit durring the show cause of the crowd, then just stick with it for then and watch him close up.

Posted - 09/22/2001 : 05:35:22 AM Hey Amy, Glad you liked the show despite the crowd and the language, hopefully you will be able to see another show with a crowd that appreciates Tim as much as you.By the way, I agree with you, "fuck 'em!" It is too bad the few had to ruin it for everyone else. I am quite sure the ones that were yelling were not the ones who walked out when Tim's language degenerated. That is quite a shame. The ones quietly enjoying were probably the same ones who walked, that is so sad they had to miss out because others antagonized Tim so bad.

Posted - 09/22/2001 : 04:53:52 AM Hey Adam, Your theory is correct. I have been following your comments in many of the threads about this subject and they are correct. Tim was quite irratated at the crowd and I think he just went out there to sock them between the eyes. They were really throwing off his concentration. Even with his earplugs in. They were truly one of the worst crowds we have ever had the displeasure of performing in front of. That and the crowd at the Bluebird in Denver. EGADS!!! I feel sorry most for people like you, the true fans, who unfortunately end up suffering both from the assholes around you and from the less than excellent show you recieve because Tim can just not concentrate. Tonites crowd in Pocatello was the best crowd so far on this tour. Tim got down on his knees and thanked them for their oh so courteous behavior. You could have heard a pin drop in that place and they just went crazy for the show. It was awesome. We hope we get more crowds like that. I don't think I heard 1 person yell anything thru either of Tim's sets tonite. Iowa City so sad people have to ruin it for everyone. I am starting to lean more and more toward Liz's idea of steel toe boots and the others thrown out like sox and quarters or 8 balls. It may be a little extreme but sometimes extreme situations call for extreme measures. To quote Rodney King, "Can't we all just SHUT THE FUCK UP"(or something like that)

Posted - 09/22/2001 : 01:18:02 AM I also attended the show in logan,UT. Go Tim! He was awesome. The reaction of the crowd to the language was a lot worse than I thought it would have been, about half to 2/3 of the crowd left, but fuck em' they missed out. I thought he was hillarious. I just hope Tim comes back again, the crowd was pretty rude. Great show none the less.

Posted - 09/21/2001 : 8:38:02 PM Hey Fluffy, I know it was a while back, but do you remember if Tim was pissed at the crowd at the show on 4-10-01 at the Union Bar in Iowa City, Iowa. I know you guys do tons of shows, and it was a while back...but any input would be great...all I have now is a theory :-)
Thanks Adam

Gee Fluffy, maybe I do need a new pair of boots(with steel toes) to wear to Tim's shows so I can kick the scum sucking assholes!!! Did I just say that? I meant, the fucking scum sucking assholes!!!!! Ok I feel much better now! Give them hell Tim, you don't deserve it!!! Liz

Anyone knows a sock and an 8 ball work much better. Chloroform works great... but you might try your everday run-of-the-mill rufees. Just drop one in their beers... That way the drunken fratboys won't even struggle with you. :) -Jeff

Posted - 09/21/2001 : 05:42:00 AM Fluffy here! I attended the above show and was witness to the language that offended. I talked with Tim about it afterwards and as I suspected, it was a reaction(albeit, maybe not the best one)to the constant yelling of "Timmah" from all over the crowd. His first comment about him changing his name to Dick provoked the same goofballs to start yelling "Dick" and as his frustration grew he just kind of lost it. Tim may have overreacted but as usual it was brought on by what Tim considers a rude crowd. This behavior is the same kind of stuff that keeps Dave reluctant to do another acoustic tour. It is unfortunate that so few have to ruin it for everyone. I don't know what people are thinking when they are yelling but it is really not appreciated by Tim. A greater sign of appreciation to Tim would be a quiet attentive appreciative crowd. I apologize that you were offended and so does Tim. On further reflection he felt he overreacted but sometimes in the heat of it you just react. I am sorry you took it all so seriously, I think if you really watched him that night you would have seen the venom with which those comments where directed. He was seriously frustrated. Hope this clears it up for you. The show was recorded and eventually everyone can check it out and make their own decisions on Tims performance.

Posted - 09/20/2001 : 8:10:36 PM Have you seen Tim before/heard any of his solo work? A lot of it is guitar w/delay and other effects. Tim has gone effects crazy lately but its sweet. That sucks that he wasn't really into playing and shit. everyone has bad days though. Those of us who gig here, I doubt we can say all of our gigs have been perfect. Tim is still the best guitarist ive ever heard/seen.

Posted - 09/20/2001 : 6:20:58 PM How was his playing?
Sounds like the crowd was shitty as hell. The crowd at a show I went to in april of 2001 sucked as well. I think Tim cut his set short that night because the crowd was so disrespectful. If you look at the setlist: http://www.timreynolds.com/setlists/4-10-01/ it looks like he had planned to play many more songs, but crossed them off. Instead he did some weird ass delay stuff, looped it and screamed lyrics to Indoctrinate (A TR3 song over it) lyrics like :Masturbate until you feel okay, Masturbate until your shit goes away...etc...
If you look at the setlist to the show I went to, it looks like he wrote "Indoctrinate" all over the 2nd part of the set and threw the 2nd part out, because there are songs on there that I would have recognized, that Tim did not play. I've been meaning to ask Fluffy about that, but haven't been able to.
Is that what he did at your show. The drunkards in Iowa City pissed the hell out ofme and my girlfriend, just about the only two people that were showing Tim any kind of respect. One guy said he was just waiting for Tim to play crash....I almost smashed his head.
Besdies that they were about to start throwing shit at the opener for Tim, Peter Prince.
It was bad. But Tim's playing was on top of everything, as it always is, so you've got to give him that.

Sounds to me like he was just pissed at the crowd?
