I have heard that Dave and Tim are not exactly the best of friends these days and that another D&T tour is unlikely. Can anyone (FLUFFY) confirm or deny this rumor? Also, does Tim have any plans to plug back in and tour with Houston and Johnnie?

Hey JenJen, I have been really busy, Sorry! You can read all the details in the "Fluffy's Back!" post. I have recieved all your emails and I was sifting thru them when I got back from my Chris Whitley tour. Boy they are long, but quite interesting. Glad you are having such a great time and seeing so much kewl stuff. I promise to email soon. Stay safe and have lots of fun fun fun!!!

You know....there's something I've always wanted to do if I was ever in Italy. I would go into a restaraunt, order some pasta, grab my knife and fork, and cut the pasta right in front of the waiter!!!! Haha!! I'd probably have to become a fugitive after that.

Things in Italy are great.....gosh where to start? There is soo much I'm afraid I'll bore you all!
School here is good. We have tests tomorrow, but they should be easy enough. There are things about the school that don't measure up (e.g. Construction, pasta for both lunch and dinner everyday, one load of laundry costing $10 (washing and drying) and heat and water not working) considering we are paying $7500 to go to school here, but I guess the scenery makes up for it.
We have travel weekends and weeks....and those of course are the best part of the trip. I have been to Milan (Milano), Florence (Firenze), and Venice (Venezia) for the Carnevale might I add. People get crazy for the Carnevale....dressing up in costumes and walking the streets. Oh yeah and Fat Tuesday was cool too! This next week we have off.......two girls and I are going to Egypt! Yep, that's right...four days in Cairo and then a cruise down the Nile. I am way excited! We will also spend a couple days in Rome before we leave.
I miss home though...isn't that funny? I'm in Europe and I miss home. I miss my friends. It sucks to have to start all over with a new group of people...and three months is not enough time to make "real" friends....which is not an incentive at all for me. Everyone is from the south or east coast, so it's not like I'll see them ever again. I just miss how comfortable it is to be among people who just "know" you and you don't have to explain yourself.
I can't wait to have food from the states again. When you go to a restaurant you have to pay for the water. I miss ranch dressing....all they use here is oil and vinegar. I miss Dr. Pepper, Doritos and SUSHI (most of all). Okay, I better stop this subject because it is going to be a long time before I get any of that!
Where's Fluffy? I think I missed something pretty big just from my brief skim of the subjects I've missed. I miss that guy. I have e-mailed him from over here a few times, but I haven't heard anything back. Things really are dismal without him here....no offense anyone!
Well, hope everyone is doing great back in the states! Thinking about everyone over here!

I was reading the Old English version and I decided to get some firsthand knowledge on the subject. Reading it while wandering around castles is the only way to read Lord of the Rings!

Hey pcbdmb, I see you moved to the United Kingdom. Is that because of your reading Lord of the Rings? You said you had a problem about really getting into a book, and by your language in the other post and your shift in locale I thought you might be taking it a little too seriously. I think it was probably just a reasonable conclusion come to by a lot of DMB fans that were into the idea of him playing with Tim. If you look at it, from all the interviews that I ever read of them up until the end up their 1999 tour, they seemed pretty inseperable... then suddenly it seemed as though they severed SOMETHING, as everyone and their mother got a hold of that comment by TR about him having not seen Dave in a long time and just ran into him on the street. So the general view seemed to go from inseperable to zip... and based on that I don't think it was unreasonable for people to come to their own conclusion that they may have had an argument or something since most people don't go and read EVERY interview they can find like we all do.

Who knows how these things get started. DMB message board somewhere is my guess. I can't imagine it was TR fans. TR fans seem to be quite aware of the relationship between TIM and Dave. Probably some drunken frat boy party. Someone heard this or that and next thing you know, they hate each other. It is kinda like that Charms Blow Pops ad that ends with, "The World May NEVER Know!!"

Yes indeed you have! It just takes some people longer to see the truth. I have a question though...where did the rumor get started that they didn't like each other? I have always thought of them as friends, otherwise they never would have done so many tours and albums together. I just think it would be interesting to find out the source of this rumor, if possible.

THANK GOD!! Maybe this will finally put all the rumors to rest. Thank god for Pat Reilly's chance meeting with Dave. I was starting to feel like I couldn't say it enuf. They DO NOT hate each other. Given TIMe and the right circumstances, it could happen. Isn't that what I have been saying fromt he beginning.

I had the great fortune to talk to Dave Mathews on March 25th, 2000 at 1230 PM in Charlottesville, VA for about 25 minutes. He was in the outdoor mall in C-ville and rather than attract attention to him, I walked up and said, "Dave, I just moved here, do you know a good place for lunch?" He laughed and was pretty enthusiastic and named a few places just off the mall. My girlfriend and I and Dave walked down the mall and I asked him if he was going to do anything with Tim Reynolds anytime soon. He lit up. He said he loved playing with Tim and that if he wasn't under pressure to finish another album he'd like to do another project or a college tour sometime. We passed by an ATM and I asked Dave to hold tight for a minute while I withdrew some cash and got the reciept for him to sign.(1259EST 25 March 2000 ) He signed it politely enough with the big peace sign and started talking to my girlfriend about what kind of food she was in the mood for for lunch. Right around then, some teenagers recognized him and a crowd gathered quickly. He gave my girlfriend a hug, shook my hand and said something about Tim being a great musician and how he'd like to play with him more, told us to take it easy and then he took off.
I never had the impression that Dave had anything but love and respect for Tim Reynolds.

The D&T crowds are just like the DMB crowds.. 10% of the people are there to see their favorite musicians doing what they do best. 90% of the people are there to tell their friends they were there.

Something Dave makes a point of doing, as well as audience members. I love listening to D&T concerts and paying attention to the background for things that people are saying.

Actually, Dave does that quite often in the shows...I mainly collect D&T shows, and I can't even begin to tell you how many of them are like that.
And not just in the beginning of the shows either. Dave really really makes a complete effort to quieten the crowd. The crowd just will absolutely not remain quite, tho.
So I give credit to Dave for trying as much as he can be expected to.

I think he actually did that for a few of the shows, 02.5.99, for example he tells people to sit down, "so that the short people get to see" or something like that.
For the most part though, I think if people are gonna be drunken assholes, then there's not much that can be done.

Yeah, I thougth working was a lame excuse not to go to the show too, but I didn't argue with him...or it would have meant I would not have gotten to go to the show, and I would have driven 2 hours for nothing :)
I actually heard a Tim solo song from a D&T show with a guy yelling "WE WANT DAVE!!" and a bunch of the crowd booing THAT guy and telling him to shut up, which was kind of cool (the second part anyway) but it's just an example of the disrespect Tim gets. I have heard of Dave yelling at some "drunken sailors" as he put it to shut up and sit down.
I honestly don't blame Dave for the way Tim gets treated, or the fact that preteen girls yell his name a long with phrases like "will you marry me" or "i love you". He can't help who likes his music, and how far they take loving the music/him. I honestly think though, if Dave personally made an announcement at the beginning of each D&T show, about how it was a quiet set, be quiet, sit down, etc... people would probably actually respect what he was saying. It may seem a little farfetched for him to do that, but it just may work, and it wouldn't be hard for him to slip it in between his stories about feces and monkeys and stuff :)
The crowds at the Des Moines and Luther shows were like complete opposites of each other though. Des Moines crowd was shitty, while Luthers was really great.

I can't believe that! I feel so sorry for Tim. Even if he is humble, people booing you when you're not sucking has got to bruise your ego at least a little bit. Did Dave do anything? I've heard him tell some people to "shut the fuck up!" Man! I would have those people "escorted" out of the building with a little help from our bouncer Fluffy. It's like when Lisa imagined being the second best band playing their number two hit "Born to runner-up". She said "Why would they come to our concert just to boo us?"

hey Jake, I don't think anyone is BLAMING Dave. I think what they are trying to say is that Dave attracts screaming girls, whereas Tim attracts a predominantly male audience and the girls he attracts are more interested in his music than his bod. So there are not girls at TR shows screaming I love you TIM, I want to marry you! Although we do have our fair share of guys screaming the first half, I Love you TIMMAH!! I think what they are trying to say is for a TR guitar fan it is easier to appreciate him at at TR show than at a Dave show. That is certainly NOT Daves fault. It is just the nature of the audience that he attracts compared and contrasted to the audience that Tim attracts. Tim has had his fair share of loud-mouthed concert attendees.(ie: Bluebird Theater, Denver CO) I really think all they were saying was they would rather see Tim perform amongst a TIM crowd than a DAVE crowd. At a Tim show, all you have to worry about the crowd yelling is STREAM! Unless you are at a show with Evergreen, she would be screaming for his FINGERS, not his bod! HEHE

guys, i can totally see where you're coming from with this yes, i know screaming girls can be a problem for anybody at any show. yes, they're loud and drown out the music and get annoying and yes, sometimes i'd like to break their nose. but dave matthews really shouldn't be brought into this. aside from being a huge tim reynolds fan, i am also a huge dave fan. please dont blame any of this annoyances on dave. thank you.

PS Good story about getting into that show. It's so kewl when you can actually get into a show thats so in demand. Happen to me a few times, the best being a Pearl Jam show that sold out in 10 minutes...1998. And once again screaming chicks for Eddie, drowning out the music with their own yelling! I was dying to see some of those girlies in the mosh pit....That'll fix 'em. Screaming all right! From pain!!! HeHe

Adam your first post was Oh so hit the nail on the head! I've heard plenty of T&D bootlegs from that Luther College tour and the disrespect in the background sucks..You can hardly hear T&D on some of them because of the screaming chicks for Dave(who we KNOW are clueless about anything musical let alone the wonders of Tim's fingers). And on one recording, during a Tim solo song, people are actually BOOING during some incredible TR riffs. It made me wanna cry! Real f*cking jerks attending that show!!!
I'll take TR solo or with TR3 anyday. Tim is more respected by fans like the people on this message board when he plays solo and no one has to wait 20-30 songs to hear "THE GOOD STUFF"

I mean hell, it's just one day of work. I can't think of a job I've had (and I've had some really random and strict ones) that would just fire me on the spot for missing a single day. You wouldn't necessarily have to tell them that you were at a concert or anything...I mean, I wouldn't lie and say I was sick (I don't lie), but you can come up with some damn creative stuff and still not lie.
But yeah, I would just skip work. And if I got fired, ... well, too bad. Maybe that'd motivate me to do something with my degree.

Okay, i just didn't know if I had already posted my trying time getting one lousy ticket for Luther '99.
The way the D&T shows were working that year, was that the tix went on sale to the colleges, then if there were any left over after they had been picked over by the college students, they went on to ticketmaster, for sale to the public. Turns out that the Center for Faith and Life at Luther holds about 1200-1500 people. Well, that was the year that L@LC came out of course, so they had tons and TONS of people trying to get tix.
My sister was an alumni, and was sure that her friends that stll wen't there would be able to get us tickets, and if not, we'd wait for them to go on sale to the general public. We had gotten tickets to the show in Des Moines for the day before the Luther show that way. One of her friends told us that so many people at Luther (just about EVERY student) wanted to go to this show. Even some that weren't DMB fans, just ebcause the album had come out, they wanted to go. Well, Luther wound up having to hold a huge raffle for tickets. And the people that were chosen in the raffle got a chance to buy ONE ticket.
My sister had also heard that Dave had reserved a bunch of seats for friends and stuff, because of the album release, so that cut down on the number of tickets, and a bunch of Luther people had reserved seats, liek the Dean and stuff I guess. So that makes maybe, what 1000 tickets, for how many college students?? One of her friends actually was chosen in the raffle, and got a ticket, but said HE was going, and he was very sorry but he couldn't help us. I thought he was a jerk...
So it wasn't looking like I was going to luther '99, and I was pretty bummed. But I thought to myself, I'll go up there, and see if anyone is umm....scalping...for lack of a better term.
So I went up there alone, becuase my sister was accepting defeat, with about 300 bucks in my pocket, though I wouldn't have spent it all, I wanted to be prepared...well, i ran into my sister's friend that had screwed me out of the ticket earlier, and he told me his sob story...he had to work, and couldn't get out of it. Grinning from ear to ear, I said "What are you doing about the show?" he pulled the ticket out of his wallet, and said he'd give it to me for face value, which was like 30-somethign bucks.
So in the end, being the brat I am, I got my way, and got to go to the show, with a pretty good seat.
But God Damn! That is a freaking hard way to score a seat to a concert if you ask me!
Sorry..not a very exciting story, but oh well. :)

Well, I hope whatever the next tour is, Solo Acoustic, Solo Electric, TR3/Puke, or D&T or whatever else, I just hope you all come my way!!
Even though I don't want to begin to imagine the absolute hell of:
A) Trying to get freaking tickets to D&T
B) Trying to hear the music over the prepubescent girls in the audience..."Dave!!!! I want to marrrrrry youuuuu!!!" "CRAAASHHHH!" "If you like me, check the boooooxxxxxx!!!" and the inevitable "The Spaaacceee Betweeeeeeeen!"
C) Having to deal with the disrespect Tim gets on that gig
D) Having to sit through 20-30 DMB songs, just to hear Tim shine during the solos/fills.
Ok, ok, that last one was uncalled for, I apologize ;)
Seriously though, if they were still playing 1500 people venues, youd have to sell your soul to get a ticket.
Did I ever post the story on the board of the process to get tickets to Luther 99? Madness I tell you, sheer madness.

Hey Righty, welcome aBOARD!! Glad to have ya here. Contrary to popular belief, Tim and Dave do not hate or even dislike one another. There has been talk of another acoustic tour or even just working together. They are both so busy it just seems to be hard to get it all together. Plus they are living on seperate sides of the country. So they just don't run into each other that often. They have both stated on seperate occasions that they would love to work together again. Patience, and hopefully one day, it will happen. As far as Tim working with Johnny and Houston, that still remains to be seen. Again the problem is since Tim moved to NM he is so far from them and it is hard and expensive to just get together and jam. For now Tim is happy with the acoustic stuff and doing the electric at home with his home recording equipment. It has given him an opportunity to explore and experiment with new sounds and new guitars. Have you had a chance to check out ID. It is available thru the website as a free download. There is really no telling what the future holds for TR3 as Tim works in mysterious ways, the mood strikes him and boom! Electric tour. I would suggest getting on the email list, that way you will be updated when Tim has any new plans. As soon as Tim tells me about something, I post it to the email list. As far as Tim and Dave are concerned, Tim just waits to hear from Dave about when he will have TIMe to work on another project whatever that may be. Hope this helps!
