Posted - 05/16/2008 : 1:03:52 PM What would it take to start getting Tim's music down as tabs or sheet music? You can buy this stuff for Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, Andy McKee, Don Ross, DMB, etc. But nothing for Tim (I'm not knocking the Tablature section of this site...but I'm talking about "official" versions).
I think it would be a worthwhile enterprise. He's well regarded as one of the top guitarists in many circles...so I think they would sell.
Has a publisher ever approached you, Fluffy? |

Posted - 05/16/2008 : 1:23:56 PM Thanks, Fluffy. I had read that...but I guess I was thinking something that involved Tim less.
Michael Hedges and Kottke didn't write their own tabs. One way they would do it would be to use video tapped performances to create the accurate tabs. This is the way Stropes (arguably some of the best tabs you can get) does it.
They'd probably have Tim play the songs with special cameras, etc. I imagine this wouldn't take too long...and they'd likely pay Tim (or he'd get a cut of all of the sales).
Oh well. Just a thought... |

Posted - 05/16/2008 : 1:11:55 PM From the FAQ(definitely worth a read-thru when u have TIMe):
Q: Does Tim Reynolds have any books out on tablature or technique?
A: As stated by Tim himself in an interview: “I wouldn't ever have the time to do it. I'd rather practice and figure out new songs than doing something like that. And there's a lot of people who could probably do it way better than me. As far as figuring out, you know? Cause I just improvise so much. I could explain a lot of it personally to someone else. That might help them. But that would really involve someone who could really make a book out of it. I'm too scatter brained and unfocused, in that area. I'm very focused when I'm playing, but not in that. It's like describing a monkey on paper. You don't really get the monkey till you're with the monkey. But, just describing the monkey on paper doesn't do it for me.”

To answer a few of the other questions not covered by TR's answer. Yes, he has been approached but given his answer you can prolly figure out why it hasn't happened. |
