Yea, I don't think these little interludes are any particular song--just some recurring sounds at the time.

Dan, the Letting Go and To Touch Yearning are just followed by delay improvs. The TTY improv is one of my faves of all-time, the delay he gets going around 3:40 and the subsequent chord strumming reminds me of a warm rain. Beautiful.

Tim listened to this song last night, and he said it's Kundalini Bonfire. Works for me!

I have all of TR's solos from T&D shows identified on the Almanac except for one (other than shows we don't have tapes of). He played it on 1.24.99, 3.13.99, and 3.14.99. Erich wasn't able to identify it, but I figured it was worth asking again anyway.

Can ANYONE give me a name of this? Here are two versions of it:

3.13.99: Letting Go > ??? (at about 3:53)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/btg9b5

3.14.99: To Touch Yearning > ??? (at about 3:32)

Thanks Fluffy! Even with my somewhat limited knowledge of Tim's work, it doesn't sound like a typical Stream intro to me, but I can definitely hear Stream coming out of it, and as I said, his left hand looks like it's about to start Stream. Hopefully Tim remembers :)

That's what I was afraid of. I had a feeling it was just improv stuff. Oh well, hopefully we'll get some more of a recording, but I doubt it.

The show was a private one Dave and Tim played at the Showbox in Seattle for a Microsoft conference. We don't have a full setlist yet, but I've got what we do know here http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453056597&tid=97&where=2008

ETA: Based on where his hand is at the end of the clip, I think Stream is probably a safe guess, but who knows.
KevinLesko Posted - 05/22/2008 : 5:30:06 PM
what the hell? What show was last night?
gnome44 Posted - 05/21/2008 : 11:01:38 PM
Not a song. Just his standard sound-scape delay pedal stuff.

It seemed like he was going to go into something towards the end...but it cuts off right before he get to it.
dancheatham Posted - 05/21/2008 : 6:39:45 PM
Here's a very short clip of Tim's solo from last night's D&T show at the Showbox: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0UYJwBTl3_Q

That's probably the only audio we're going to get of the solo, so I hope it's enough to identify it... I hate having to put "unknown Tim solo" on the Almanac.
dancheatham Posted - 11/12/2007 : 6:24:47 PM
Okay, I'll go ahead and call it an improv. Thanks y'all.
KevinLesko Posted - 11/12/2007 : 3:50:14 PM
Agreed, it's not a seperate song, just a jam/improv.

I am more confused than ever now. TR definitely SANG the Hendrix songs and he SANG Levee. I just listened to the link and he does a slide intro and then SINGS Levee. I was there, he sang. You can hear him singing in the link posted.

The instrumental piece is just like I said, it's one of his noodlings with no name, an improv piece. He did say that about 2 mins into it he does some of "Home" a jazz classic that he thinks is by Horace Silver but he wasn't sure about that. So it is an improv piece with bits of "Home" thrown in.

jsemon2 Posted - 04/30/2007 : 09:53:20 AM
it isnt a improv loop track, that I am 100% sure of.

Also so Fluffy, can you listen to "When the Levee Breaks"? I labeled that because you said Tim went into that after the Hendrix songs. Now it sounds like something TR would do as an intro/outro to Levee, but he doesn't sing in this......

I am pretty sure the very last song that TR played before he left the stage and returned for the encore was Doom on the 12 string. Was the track you posted just before Doom? If yes it is one of TR's improv pieces. Even if it was played after Doom, which I don't remember, it is one of his improv songs and the names are made up before the set and are different every nite just like the songs themselves. If I could hear what was just before it it might help me place that in the context of the set. I guess you saw I posted his printed setlist in the show review and after it I talked about what was played and skipped in comparison to the setlist. Hope this helps.

Hey Fluffy-
My appologies for the confusion- I was looking for the name.

I have:

- Doom
- Purple Haze >>
- Machine Gun >>
- When the Levee Breaks (http://www.sendspace.com/file/qd0lr9) >>
- Unknown Song (http://www.sendspace.com/file/m5ckob )

This unknown song is the last thing played before the encore, entirely instrumental.

If that unknown song is one of those improv pieces, I can just leave it as that :) I just wanted to be sure it wasn't a new song!

Thanks!
jsemon2 Posted - 04/30/2007 : 07:49:17 AM
that was played after the jimi hendrix covers and Levee. and before the encore with Marcus.

it is clearly not an improv noise track......

song one SOUNDS like Kundalini Bonfire, but it doesnt sound exactly like it. So when i tried to name it earlier I decided against saying it was definitely KB.

I need to get you my list of the '99 names i already did. It seems youre doing a lot of work, and if i already did a lot id hate to see that. give me a bit and i'll dig out my disc.

Erich, I noticed that you have 2.20 listed as being Kundalini Bonfire. Is this actually KB or did you mean to put the # on that one too? If we could get a name for that one, we'd ALMOST have a complete list of every song Tim has played at D&T shows, save one or two on the 99 tour and the couple from this past tour that we don't have any way of knowing yet!

none of the links work. the song marked as # is the track i was just talking about. it shows up 3 times in the '99 sets that i heard. () means i marked it as a tease.

I know theres one solo in '99 that he plays Inner City Blues, but I dont know the date and i havent heard it in years. So thats not marked there.

im leaning toward "I'm In the Mood" by John Lee Hooker for 2006-09-29 track. as for the song after that i'm thinking it is a TR orginal. he has played it before i just cant remember the date.

compare the J. Hooker version

When I first started naming songs for shows, back in '99 for the d+t tour (still ongoing, i havent heard all the songs and some i still dont know), the biggest plus for me was that after one or two times i remembered the tune. Its a great feeling when you get the name the first time and never have to do it again .
