Posted - 11/16/2005 : 10:38:19 AM John....sent you an email.
We were set up dead center in front of Tim, on a elevated platform approximately 20 from the stage....right next to the sound board. There was an audio taper there....he patched into the sound board, but also ran external mics, so he can do a mix if he wants. The same taper also ran a video camera placed next to ours. He is going to send me a copy of both his audio and video pulls.
Here is a short clip of some raw footage (using the camera for audio): http://www.jasonpevear.com/TR.clip11.15.05.mpg |

Posted - 11/15/2005 : 1:43:10 PM OK, we got the camera...a Sony DCR HD21 and two different tripods...one tall and one short. We have to use the camera for audio, so I have my fingers crossed that I can hook up with someone that is doing a pure audio recording. The venue says it is only 40 tickets from being sold out! |

Posted - 11/12/2005 : 6:56:29 PM my first taping was at a tim show, and i didnt put the tripod on stage until the 3rd song. dont hesitat to put it up there. but if you can get a heavy duty tall tripod, i would but in the back and raise it above the heads. i got a lot of bass when tim when electic, with the tripod on stage. so if you could get it back behind everyone, but with a great view, so that when people walk in front of you, the camcorder doesnt see it, that would be best for the audio.
but hit me up on AIM man. JohnSemonII |

Posted - 11/12/2005 : 3:19:37 PM Just got back from the Jewish Mother...got my tickets for next Tuesdays show. I spoke with the owner of the Jewish Mother and he said he has absolutely no problem with me setting up a video camera as long as I send him a copy of the completed show
The guy I am going with said he will go to Best Buy or somewhere that has a favorable return policy and buy a good video camera and return it the next day. A guy at my office is going to grad school majoring in video production and has all the equipment, so I will get a tripod from him....he actually has a VERY expensive high definition video camera but he will not let me touch it, and he does not want to go to the show I checked the room out and it is very small. From the edge of the stage to the back wall is no more than 30 feet...and from what it looks like, the back 10 feet is elevated up a bit with a small wall in front of it (probably for a row of tables)....a perfect place to set up and be above everyone. Hopefully there will be an electical outlet that I power the camera directly and not have to worry about batteries. Someone also said there was a possibility that I could get in early during soundcheck and plug directly from the soundboard into the camera. I hope this all pulls together....this will be my 1st taping attempt so wish me luck! |

Posted - 11/12/2005 : 11:41:54 AM not sure about what mic you should use, but you;'ll need a nice camcorder to do that. but i would go ahead and get a tripod too. you more then likely will get the trippod on stage. a number of tapers did, and i had no problems with fluffy or anything.
if you cant get one, i would get one at walmart for a night, buy it, tape the show, and return it the next day. charge the battary though, and once you get the tripod on stage, shut the miniscreen, that thing will suck all you battary and you wont get the whole show.
and i always tape at SP, so you'll need to get 2 minidvs.
well hit me up on aim if you have any questions. i'll be more then happy to help. |

Posted - 11/12/2005 : 06:03:45 AM Trying to get my hands on a video camera now...if I can, yes (there is a good possibility). I don't know if anyone is audio taping. If not, then I will have to go with the audio from the camera. I have access to some good mics from my church...do you think I could plug it into a "line in" on the camera to improve the audio quality? If so, what kind of mic should I use dynamic or condenser (I have access to both). |
