Posted - 08/22/2005 : 10:24:29 PM In continuing with his anniversary edition re-issues, Greg has just announced that he has remastered and re-released the Transmigration cd. This is one of my absolute favorite cds. If you never got around to picking this one up, now is the time. Here is the description off Greg's page:
Sticks and Stones: Transmigration cassette 1991, CD 1996, remastered 2005 Improv duets with Tim Reynolds. Transmigration was the third Sticks and Stones recording, and the first to make it to CD. Playing a wide variety of instruments from around the world, Greg and Tim Reynolds laid down some "pan-cultural" improvisations, echoing music of the Middle East, India, Africa, and South America, as well as jazz and funk fusion and some outer and inner space music.
Newly remastered by Greg in 2005.
Tim Reynolds - acoustic and electric guitar, sitar, violin, mandolin, didjeridoo, percussion, ocharina Greg Howard - Chapman Stick, alto sax, synthesizer, prepared flute, clay flutes, drum samples

Posted - 11/25/2008 : 7:15:58 PM I got Greg's E-mail too. I love that guy's stuff. Truthfully, when I finally got something together and can get in a studio, he's the one I want behind the mixing board. |

Posted - 11/25/2008 : 5:35:03 PM I thought Greg's new instrument might be of particular interest to folks like Matt Winn. From Greg's latest email:
Hi Everyone,
Busy with kids, leaves, cold weather, a new Stick....etc....
I got a new intrument recently, the Stick Guitar.

It's very fun to play and it's the perfect thing for the new band I've been playing with, and you can come and see us THIS SUNDAY:
Sun Nov 23, Darrell Rose's International Counselors will be at my favorite C-Ville music spot, Gravity Lounge. Music starts at 7:00, nice and early...a nice way to wrap up your weekend. With Matthew Willner on bass, James McLaughlin on drums and special guest Kurt Patterson on African percussion. Here are a couple of live tracks from our last gig there:

Posted - 06/12/2008 : 10:10:19 AM Indeed GH ended up opening for TR3 on their last stop in C-ville. Not only did he open but he sat in with TR3 for a couple of songs including a cover you just can't imagine stick on & TR ended up sitting in with GH during his opening set for an almost 20 minute improv jam. You can read more about the evening at the following link:

Here is the latest from GH's newsletter:
Hi Everyone,
I know it's been a while since you heard from me. Big changes in my life have meant much less performing, but I'm still making music and enjoying it more in some ways.
To begin with, Joyce and I adopted two kids in October, so I'm home now, doing PR work for Stick Enterprises and not touring for the forseeable future.
but... for those of you in the Charlottesville area, I do have a show on Friday June 13, with percussionist Darrell Rose's International Counselors at Fellini's , just off the downtown mall. This is a really fun and energetic band.
details here:

If you're out and about that night, please stop by, and bring some comfy clothes as "there might be some dancin'"
I've also put up a youTube Page: http://www.youtube.com/gregplaysthestick
and a MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/gregplaysthestick
in case you want to chek out some videos and my music is still available from amazon.com, CD baby and Stick Enterprises.
That's it for now. Thanks for supporting live music!
If you'd like to be removed from this newsletter for whatever reason, just let me know.

Posted - 08/24/2005 : 12:13:36 AM quote: I've got the original cut, do you think the remaster is worth picking up Kevin
I'll let you know once I listen to the new one how much of a difference I notice, but as Greg says in his email that Fluffy posted:
quote: I've learned a lot about mastering in the last few years, and I hope it does justice to the music, which I really love.
So I think there will be a noticable improvement. |

Posted - 08/23/2005 : 03:04:45 AM Greg's latest with info about the remaster:
Hi folks,
The end of summer always makes me think I gotta get ready for something. Here in Charlottesville all of the college students are coming to town, and it's very hot. I'm sure I'll think of something.
July was a blast. The Montreal jazz festival was even better than last time. Thanks so much to Mitch Polgar and Dan Behrman and all of the other folks who made that possible. It was also great to hook up with Tim Reynolds for a few shows in the Midwest. Tim never ceases to amaze me, and his new disc, "Parallel Universe" is very entertaining and deeply musical. His live versions of familiar tunes are artful and inspiring, and hearing him revisit some of the early TR3 songs brings back great memories of the days when I did sound for them back in the late 1980s. Thanks also to Fluffy and Rue and Tom B. for making it all happen. I hope to have some pictures of the July shows up soon on my site.
I'm really excited to be heading out west to the Southern Califronia Stick Seminar and Concert this week. My deepest thanks to Tom Griesgraber for continuing to put on this event. He's a great performer, and his lyrical and dynamic compositions really shine through in his live performances and on his recent CD "A Whisper in the Thunder." (see below for details of the concert)
Here's some news about what I've been working on, and about upcoming shows:
REMASTERED TRANSMIGRATION NOW AVAILABLE UPCOMING SHOWS IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA AND VIRGINIA PROGRESS ON THE NEW ALBUM
---- REMASTERED TRANSMIGRATION NOW AVAILABLE ---
In keeping with the 20-year anniversary editions series, I've remastered this recording I made with Tim Reynolds back in 1991. This is the second version of the CD. I've learned a lot about mastering in the last few years, and I hope it does justice to the music, which I really love. At this point in our collaboration, Tim and I were playing a multitude of instruments - him on acoustic and electric guitars, sitar, mandolin, violin, percussion, didjeridoo, and me on Stick, synths, alto sax, samples and all kinds of concocted wind instruments. The pieces on this record run the stylistic gamut, from grooving middle-eastern and south asian to funky machinations, percussion jams and space music.
This version of TRANSIMGRATION is currently only available direct from me via check or paypal. only $13 plus shipping, and I can work out deals with you if you want to get other titles as well. If you are interested, send me an email to stickist@aol.com, please tell me where it will be shipped to, and we can go from there.
