Posted - 05/11/2003 : 7:14:27 PM Just thought I'd mention that this past friday I had the chance to guest DJ on my friend's college radio show on KUCI (which plays throughout Orange County, and all over the world online) and I was able to play a few songs, one of which was the Title track from Peter's cd SUPERFASTGO, I also got to introduce the song and pimp Peter before it got played. |

Posted - 03/04/2003 : 9:29:22 PM Just got an email that my cd's are in the mail! Looks like they should arrive by the end of the week! |

Posted - 03/03/2003 : 6:04:33 PM Ok, ordered both. The only thing that sucks about that is the wait. Won't get it until the 13-15 of March, but I guess at least it will be something to look forward to, eh? I will let you know what I think of The Pod and Maggot Brain. ( I may just have to have some "anticipation" shots one night this week any how, haha) |

Posted - 03/03/2003 : 3:54:53 PM Will do, stopped at Best Buy on the way home from work and was totally bummed that they didn't have Maggot Brain. ( had others by funkadelic just not that one) So since I don't feel like going all over looking for it, I will order it from amazon. Geez I think I keep them in business, hehe. If I get more than one cd my total may be enough for free shipping, ah a method to my maddness, or am I just cheap? Nah....just any excuse to buy another good cd. So looks like I will be the proud owner of Weens, The Pod too!
BTW Bionic has been playing in my head all day. I have the cd on right now! I just love it!!! Hey, are regular radio stations playing it or just college stations? I confess, don't listen to the radio much, mostly cd's. |

Posted - 03/03/2003 : 12:31:16 PM oh and as long as youre buying cds, try WEEN"S The Pod. another recomendation on peter's list but one i turned him onto i think...the pod is just one mindfuck of an album. the brothers dean and gene's finest, but i digress.

Posted - 03/02/2003 : 11:41:06 PM P-Funk is the bomb, and I'm pretty sure Geoorge Clinton invented the term "the bomb" to boot...
Two of my favorite P-Funk songs, which are not the most traditional of their material are "Open Our Eyes" and "All Your Goodies Are Gone." Open Our Eyes is an older Funkadelic song, and it's like the greatest gospel song/song about god ever IMHO...it almost makes me want to go to church again...All Your Goodies Are Gone is Parliment...very laid-back song...piano, drums, bass...but SUPER funky...cool vocals and piano...you will not be disappointed if you download these songs!
BTW, Chocolate and Cheese is my favorite Ween album for sentimental reasons...A Tear for Eddie, Mister Won't You Please Help My Pony...that album is so solid...those guys are relatively local to where I live and are always playing shows in some incarnation.

Posted - 03/02/2003 : 11:23:30 PM Hey Tayloe, I will go back and listen to Maggot Brain again....first I will have a couple of shots, hehe, Seriously, sounds like I missed something, but I didn't download the whole album so I guess if I can find it I will buy it. What am I saying, ofcourse I can find it, and those who know me know I am a "CDaholic" so whats one more, eh? I am taking your word for it that it will blow me away!
Damnit, Ya know, I am not going to pass up on an excuse for shots either so what the heck! One night this week I am going to be assured of a good TIMe, hehe! Thanks for the info. and the review!

Posted - 03/02/2003 : 7:01:12 PM this is a review of maggot brain from inkblot magazine...my thoughts exactly.
maggot brain funkadelic I'll just say it up front: the title song of this album contains the best guitar solo in the history of rock music. You won't believe me, probably, because you have your own favorite solos clutched tightly to your chest, and anyway, isn't Funkadelic, well, y'know, a funk band? I salute your right to worship your own guitar gods; that's why we listen to loud music. But don't let the name of the band, or their color, or the age of this album fool you: Eddie Hazel recorded - in one take - the solo against which all other solos would be measured if he hadn't been African American. Sorry to play the race card, but it MUST be true.
The story on Maggot Brain is that George Clinton, out of his mind on Yellow Sunshine, told Hazel to play the first half of the song as if he had just heard that his own mother was dead, and then the second half as if he had found out she was alive. The result is beyond "astonishing" or "powerful" or anything else critics usually say; it's an improvised composition, of both deep blues purity and cold, hard, futuristic vision. There is a band backing it, but it fades out (reputedly because they sounded shitty next to Hazel), and it's pretty much just one man showing us what he's made of. If you've heard it, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, well, the record store is open
cool huh? jte
FYI: if youve ever heard ween's "a tear for eddie" off of chocolate and cheese, it is deen ween's eulogy for eddie hazel. two amazing songs...and two long tearing guitar solos. |

Posted - 03/02/2003 : 6:54:29 PM glad you enjoyed it....i thought it was pretty funny myself even though the dj left off the best part where he and peter get into as big discussion on "astroglide".
maggot brain by funkadelic is an incredible album. coincidentally....the first time i met peter he was bartending at millers and it was like 3pm and i think he an i were the only ones in there, and he put maggot brain on the stereo. i remember he and i having a big discussion on the album and slugging down shots of jager while eddie hazel blew me away with his guitar work on that album. thats what made millers a great bar. you only heard shit like maggot brain there. funkadelic is the shit...i've interviewed george clinton a few times and it all had to do with peter getting me into that album years and years ago...

Posted - 03/02/2003 : 5:07:39 PM Thanks for posting about the interview Tayloe, I listened to it last night. I am still listening to the CD a lot... and I have really taken a liking to the SUPERFASTGO track itself as of late, and it was cool to hear Peter say that that track took the longest because he did everything (no pun intended) on the track. |
PJK |
Posted - 03/02/2003 : 4:04:00 PM Tayloe, ok now I think the interview is even funnier! I listened to it a second TIMe!
I've been listening to Superfastgo more as well and I can see a Lennon influence. Especially in XXX-Mas. If I Could Walk reminds me a bit of The Who's Tommy, also Peter Gabriels OVO.
Oh and I downloaded a few songs from Magot Brains, and I guess I am missing something because it really didn't do anything for me, hehe, but I sure agree with the rest of the bands/artists he mentioned! |

Posted - 03/01/2003 : 2:23:15 PM Hey tayloe, that was really fun to listen to! Thanks for putting it on the board. I might go back and listen to it again later!
Really interesting his choices of writers and albums! He has a really great laugh too, the kind where, if you hear it and didn't know why he was laughing, it would still make you laugh too!
Just tell him I said "Damn" to his answer of 2...ofcourse the real question is probably not nearly as funny as the one that popped into my head.....ok any of the ones that popped into my head, hehe |

WOW!!! That is great! Glad to hear it and congratulations. I think the CD is great and deserves MUCH attention. I am glad you picked Loaded as the download as it is my fave track on the CD. Now I can suggest people check it out online and if they like it buy the CD. Loaded has some of the best lines on the CD(I think). For instance:
"I don't want to save my life I'm here to SPEND it"
and:
"If I were a cat I'd be long dead Good thing that I'm me instead"
Actually alot of the lyrics on the CD are ingenious or have a very ingenious twist to them, like Bionic with its analogy of a relationship breaking up:
"I might be bionic She is supersonic and I can't hold her She's breaking up, breaking up"
and even moreso in XXX-Mas, all the way thru the song he keeps repeating:
"All I want for XXX-mas is a little piece"
You get it, XXX christmas, a little piece, INGENIUS. Then at the end of the song:
"All I want for XXX-mas is a little peace, on earth"
All it all it is a fun, fun CD. Make sure you pay attention to the lyrics because they are half the fun with this CD, very tongue-in-cheek. |

Posted - 02/20/2003 : 7:24:02 PM Any plans for PG to come out to the West Coast? If so, I'd love to have him as a guest on my station. We're currently trying to put together on-demand content for our website (since the streaming won't be happening until next semester), and I'd love to add an intervew with Peter. |

Posted - 01/29/2003 : 10:13:32 PM Good luck with all of that, you got strong product to push, so that's half the battle. The rest will take care of itself. Say HI to Peter for me. Haven't seen him since the dates with Puke Matrix. It truly is an outstanding CD, you should have no problem soliciting support and publicity for it. |
