I just sold my old camera and I will be buying new soon.

I would like to know peoples opinion on this topic. What camera do you use? userfriendly? sound? picture?

I am looking at the new Sony HDR-HC1..but hate throwing down $1600 on it.

what john said... plus panasonics...

minidv is the way to go (at least for now) as far as quality goes. then again, its your money and your choice

no no no on the dvdr camcorders. you dont even hook the thing up to the computer, you just pop in the mini dvdr and rip the video off it.

stick with a minidv camcorder. cannon or sony.

It was a Sony DCR-DVD201

It is not listed on the apple web site as a "compatable" camcorder for the software that is on my G5.

I will take a look at the Panasonic you mentioned.

Also looking at the JVC Everio GZ-MG70US with Internal 30GB Hard Drive. I love the idea of not having to deal with tapes!

what kind of sony do/did you have? i never thought a cam could be incompatible with a computer. cuz it should just extract as an uncompressed avi file, which is what any minidv tape should be extracted as.

if youre willing to spend some cash, the panasonic 3ccds are supposed to be good stuff and under a $1000.

"the technology is too new for consumer level hd cameras"

That is exactly what I was thinking...but the title of "camera of the year" was throwing me off.

I was filming last year with my Sony Minidv and loved it...but it was not compatable with my editing software on my G5.

I'll keep looking....Thanks for your thelp guys!

the sony hds are not that good. the technology is too new for consumer level hd cameras.

if youre willing to throw down a semi-serious chunk of change, look into the 3ccd minidv cams. they are near-broadcast quality. only people who know what to look for can distinguish between 3ccd quality and absolute broadcast quality

cheers

josh just get a minidv player. dont worry about HD. i have a drc-hc21 that would hold you over good. get a higher model number if you want more options. but a sony minidv will be about 300-500 dollars.
