Posted - 06/22/2008 : 6:47:08 PM During this version of Letting Go, Tim plays a little intro before he starts the song. Is there a phrase for how Tim is playing at 14 seconds. He uses his strumming hand and runs his fingers like a motor boat. Is that a Tim original or is that a legitimate technique?

Posted - 06/22/2008 : 9:56:29 PM that's not a classical guitar technique that i know of; he seems to be hitting the strings with the front of his fingernails with a downstroke motion. that's more of a flamenco thing. |

Posted - 06/22/2008 : 9:35:13 PM I'm not classically trained (others here could answer more authoritatively) but that looks like a pretty standard maneuver.
It's pretty fast though...and his left hand isn't doing much...but you'll see a lot of classical players whip out that move.
I don't know if I've seen that video before. This was the tour that I first saw Tim solo...and he blew my mind. You can see why with this video. |
