Posted - 03/17/2003 : 1:05:35 PM Im wondering how tim gets that violin sounding effect on the guitar, like on entity or the solo for #41. I read in other threads that he uses a volume pedal with the dd-5 to obtain this, but on his chaos view dvd, the last song he plays a song with this sonund in it, and it does not appear that he is using any kind of volume pedal, or a pedal at all. is there a technique or how do you do this. Thanks. |

Posted - 03/17/2003 : 5:39:24 PM You're correct on the usage of the volume pedal for the swells. As far as the delay setting, on the DD-5 it goes like this:
For a short delay, more like a reverb:
E. Level: About 2 O'Clock F.Back: 12 O'Clock D.Time: Max Mode: 1
For a longer delay, a delay time he uses for A LOT of solos and such with Dave Matthews:
E. Level: About 2 O'Clock F.Back: 12 O'Clock D.Time: Max Mode: 3
You can turn the E. Level up and down to suit your needs, but these settings usually get me where I have to go.
Also, for those volume "violin" swells, you may want to look into a reverb pedal. The Holy Grail Reverb from Electro Harmonix is a great one. Reverb is killer for the violin like sound.

Posted - 03/17/2003 : 4:51:49 PM So, i have a dd-5 and im gettng a volume pedal soon. So what settings do i need the dd-5 at and what do i do with the volume pedal to execute this sound? I assume i have the volume off, pick a note and swell up after the pick to give that sound. Is this correct??

Posted - 03/17/2003 : 3:22:39 PM What you are talking about is the volume pedal, but on Lift on Chaos View he is using the volume knob on the tele to do the same thing. |

Posted - 03/17/2003 : 3:03:07 PM he uses a digitech whammy to do that, two octaves up. |
