I'm pretty positive he does it with the three fingers. You can actually kind of hear a triplet pattern for every bass note played. It seems to make more sense for Tim's style anyways. It's all kind of based around that crazy strumming thing he does at the beginning of Letting Go sometimes, where he just goes nuts flailing his fingers on all the strings.
But whatever works for you, I guess. Actually if you have the patience, I would learn to do it this way anyway, it has advanced me so much in terms of fingerpicking and finger coordination. I picked up a bass the other day and I could play it right away having played once or twice in my life, I can only attribute it to learning this finger stuff.

I really love that solo, maybe I'll take a look at the rest of it someday.
*That part of the Los Alamos tab was actually done by me, not Mark.

Another possible way to play it is to strum the open strings with the index and use the thumb for the bass. I'm not sure if thats right but thats how I've been doing it. I hope to see the whole tab of that section someday as I can't figure out for the life of me what he's doing when he moves up the neck.

I really don't want to bragg here, but I actually learned how to do it, I literally spent months figuring it out, practising and practising. What he does is he uses his index, middle and ring fingers and fingerpicks them over the same string over and over again, really goddam fast while using his thumb to get the bass notes. I find it only works starting with the ring, then the middle, then the index and start over again. It's still pretty sloppy when I do it, but SO much fun to even slightly resemble what he's playing.

Hehe.....no because that version from Gossip of the Neurons is simply a recording of a live performance. But I understand what you are aksing, and there doesn't seem to be much need for it since the song changes so drastically every TIMe it's played. But I'm sure someone can help out with the looping part at least.......just wait and see.

Even though so much of big blast of hot air is improv, no one has tabbed it from the one off of the album?

KaiK78 Posted - 09/24/2002 : 09:51:01 AM
It sure would be nice if i could play any of that.
