Posted - 09/04/2002 : 4:16:09 PM I thought of an odd analogy for how to do quick bass slaps that Tim often produces. If you've ever seen someone pack a tin of chew or some kind of smokeless tobacco, you need to have a "loose" index finger to get the proper whipping action. I think, somehow, this may be some kind of key. At last for me. I dunno, bass slaps are fun. |

Posted - 02/24/2005 : 5:37:34 PM Yah, the 10/10/01 As Far As We Can See is a serious source of inspiration for me. The end of it is off the rocks. I am trying to practice those lightning fast thumb/forefinger runs Tim does on that song. Sound like a cello or some shit. Shit, I wish I had live AUDIO of Reliable Sources, I don't know if there is any. If there is you'd better tell me, or that's just it, I'm never talking to you again. AHAHHAA, that'd be sweet...and a live Messanger.
Thread note: Gnaw is fucking nasty shit. |

I think it's cause Tim's like 50 and he's been amazing at all stringed instruments all his life. I think one day it's like you get immortal and you realize you can play anything you hear, no matter what.
*EDIT* sorry for resurrecting this thread..just pokin' around. |

Posted - 09/09/2002 : 5:50:48 PM I've built up speed on that slapping stuff just by practicing it. You can get some funky harmonics too if you slap 12 frets above the note you're fretting. Cool Shit.

Posted - 09/04/2002 : 4:20:30 PM They are lost of fun........but I've never seen anyone chew tobacco, so that analogy doesn't work for me. D'oh well......to each his own.
But anyway, the important thing is that doing bass slaps is fun.
