try doing the wrong thing with the right thing?

try playing faster finger picking, and try picking with a pick?

you can do anything, anyway.

personally i like playing without a pick, on acoustic. Just how I like to play on acoustic, unless im playign some kind of fast salsa style.

I'd probably have to say fingerpicking, I am not quite sure why, one of the first "complex" things I learned used fingerpicking. I am just now getting use to using a pick.

Its all on the song, 60% of all my music uses
a pick, whereas there's a good 40% that goes without, that's just a random guess. at shows, i pick it up, set it back down, pick it up,
set it back down.... on and on... it just depends. some of my songs
use both, i have a pic holster on my strap, so i can toss my pick down and fingerpick, then grab another when the times comes.

Yeah, I understand what some of you are saying. Like I could never play Chatterbox with a pick, but since I learned to play most Dave Matthews songs with a pick, that's all I play those with.

I learned to play without a pick, and I've never really taken the time to specifically develop that ability, so I have to say fingerpicking.

Well apart from the different styles......I'd have to say finger picking because I can sound a lot faster when I do it, and it comes out more clearly whenever I do it. But I do enjoy playing a single string very quickly with a pick......

Different styles call for... well... different styles.

I'd have to say it depends on the style and song as well. I mean, like some country songs, you just couldn't strum the chords, they almost HAVE to be fingerpicked, or it sounds like a completely different song.

Then of course there are some songs you can use your fingers on, and some you actually need fingerpicks for.
