Posted - 01/14/2002 : 7:29:42 PM How does Victor Wooten, on the DMB Live at Chicago, song #41. When he starts getting his little jam session, around 8 minutes in the song, he starts doing this really quick, smacking sound for several seconds. To me, it sounds like he's on crack, and is smacking those strings quick as hell, haha. It's amazing.

Posted - 02/03/2002 : 5:09:07 PM I just downloaded a Primus song, a bass solo for Les Claypool (is that his name? Someone correct me if I'm wrong) He's pretty damn awesome. I'm going to try and check out some of Primus's stuff. Any suggestions to songs?

Posted - 01/27/2002 : 03:05:02 AM I have also witnessed 12 string bass. 12 string bass. Wouldn't that make it a 12 string GUITAR? Tom Peterson is who I saw playing a 12 string bass. He is pretty unbelieveable.

Posted - 01/27/2002 : 02:06:30 AM I was looking through a "Bass Player" magazine, and there, on the bottom of one of the pages, an add. . . .was a 9 string bass. Yes folks, 9 string bass. Jeeze.

Of course this is just an opinion. Please make your OWN decisions as to whether it is out of place or not. I have no comment on the matter as I have no frame of reference and I am totally ignorant of the subject and have to refrain from comment on the grounds that I have no idea what I would be talking about. I wouldn't want to come across as preachy.

Posted - 01/15/2002 : 09:04:53 AM Yeah, I was all staring doey eye'd when I saw him do that too. I've tried to recreate that on my bass, wish I had some video, I probably look like someone with down syndrom trying to play. Needless to say i'm nowhere close.

Posted - 01/14/2002 : 8:20:36 PM Thanks Dirty Sloth, I read up on that technique on his web site.

dirtysloth |
Posted - 01/14/2002 : 8:03:06 PM Well, I'm not exactly a bass player, but are you talking about his double-thumb staccato pluck technique? He goes down with his thumb, comes back up with his thumb, and then plucks with his index finger and then middle finger(maybe just the index on LIC?) on the same string. So by doing that he gets four notes with one motion. Check out Live At Bass Day '98(which is on DVD now btw) if you can. He goes through and explains a good bit of his technique.
Peace, Patrick
