I can't beleive it has taken me a whole week to post this review, but I've been working like crazy this past week, and any time off I've been asleep. Even took a killer nap all afternoon today. Anyways I digress. Last Friday was the 10th Coachella Vally Music and Arts Festival out in the CA desert. To be more presice it is in Indio, the town I grew up in, which makes it a little bit more special for me. The was my 5th year in a row going to the festival, although this year I just went to Friday, and it was pretty much only to see Sir Paul. We actually made our way up to the front row earlier in the afternoon, which had it's downsides (standing in the same spot in the desert sun for 13 hours, suffering through a Morrissey set, etc...) but being front row for a Beatle made it all worth it.

He played for nearly 3 hours and played a great mixture of old Beatles tunes, Wings classics, solo material, and some new stuff from his alter-ego "The Firemen" which is really good stuff. Highlights were when he played a tribute to John Lennon, and later led the crowd in Give Peace a Chance, Let Me Roll It, Band on the Run, Helter Skelter, and Live and Let Die which included insane pyrotechnics. Here is the setlist, followed by some pictures and video I took.

Only Mama Knows
Flaming Pie
Got to Get You Into My Life
Let Me Roll It (with a coda of Purple Haze)

Even though I love George more, and John is my hero, I still love Paul!

I am so jealous of you! 3 hours, front row, and opening with JET!!! Jet is possibly my favorite Wings song (with Mull of Kintyre being my second). I'd wait through a set of Britney Spears in 150 degree weather to see Paul upfront for 24 hours (and I loathe spears with a passion)!

Also, GIVE PEACE A CHANCE????? That has to be a first, or at least, and EXTREME rarity!

Also, I was so surprised with the Fireman: Electric Arguments. Paul and Youth really are something else. It was leagues better than Memory Almost Full (which was a semi-letdown after the amazing Chaos and Creation In the Backyard).

Oh Paul. How I love Band on the Run. Still would have rather seen George tho, but still a sick setlist.

How was his singing? I've heard mixed reviews from the past few years of his actual vocals, which makes sense given his age. Great review. I would have loved to have been there. You're joining the select club of people to see a Beatle perform Beatle songs.
