New Tolkien Nordic book. I'm intrigued. I'm also blown away by the fact that Christopher Tolkien still lives and breathes with the rest of us. Thoughts? |

Posted - 02/18/2009 : 8:32:04 PM I am DEFINITELY getting this.
Also, Arthen, I adore Smith of Wooten Major and liked Farmer Giles of Ham as well. I was very impressed with his translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I have the Book with that, Sir Orfeo, and Pearl. Sir Orfeo was alright but I just could not read Pearl. It made no sense to me, and I read that no one knows for sure what it is about as well. |

Posted - 02/18/2009 : 09:47:01 AM I can't specifically recall reading Sir Gawain and the Green Knight...but I'm sure I did. I also have some pretty old editions of both Farmer Giles and Smith of Wooten Major. All great reads!
But, I have to admit...I'm pretty neutral about the new book. I likely won't even read it. Mostly because I don't have an interest in Norse Epics.
But...I'm a fan...so I might end up getting it...
Either way it's cool that something new is coming out. |

Posted - 02/18/2009 : 03:55:25 AM I remember thoroughly enjoying his translation of Sir Gawain. Although it has been a number of years since I've read it. Dan, have you read "Farmer Giles" and "Smith of Wooten Major"? Two of my favorites. Definitely stories to pass on to the kids. |
