Posted - 11/19/2008 : 8:19:58 PM To Fluffy, Robin, Dave, Jason, Kevin, Ben and anyone else who loved Chris and his music, I just want you to know I am thinking of all of you this week, even more tomorrow. I know some of you were very close friends with Chris and the loss is still fresh in your minds. Time doesn't heal all things.
Tomorrow I am going to play some of Chris's music in his honor. When I do, I will think of him and send out comforting vibes to of all of you who miss him so much. Love and peace to all of you!
I hope TR plays Wild Country tomorrow night....it would seem the perfect tribute to Chris.
Dave, I hope you can find a copy of that picture!

Posted - 11/25/2008 : 5:16:02 PM We were in Dallas on Wed at the Granada Theatre and TR3 was onstage after midnite as the anniversary of Chris' passing. TR had saved Wild Country until after midnite and dedicated the song to Chris that nite. He also played it on Thursday nite in Fayetteville, AR. The Granada ironically was one of the last places Chris played before he passed. The last TIMe TR played there I was wearing one of my Chris shirts just by chance. I had never been at that venue with Chris and had no idea until the staff started talking about him after seeing my t-shirt. The club had a staff photographer who was there to take pics of TR's performance and he informed me that he had taken pics of Chris as well. In fact, the photo on the "Bastards" CD was taken by him at the Granada Theatre. Small small world(but I wouldn't want to paint it) How apropos that TR3 would play there on almost the anniversary of his passing. It became a nice tribute. Chris would have loved it. |

Posted - 11/20/2008 : 4:22:07 PM Jared, I am sorry you never got to hear Chris in person. Dave, just wondering if you were at Chris's show in Bryn Mawr a number of years ago. Can't remember the date. I don't think I had met you in person at that time, so I wouldn't have recognized you in the crowd. He played at the coffee shop called The Point, which has since closed it's doors. Fluffy was his tour manager then. I went alone, sat in the back and took in the whole ambience. The vibes in that room were filled with antisipation of what was to come. It was a full house, I am sure it was sold out. I remember looking around at the crowd and listening to the buzz before the show. The place was packed with his fans, it was wonderful to experience that.
I remember when he came on stage and the way I felt when his hands started to play. Maybe memory makes things better than reality, but I remember such clear tones, perfect sound. It was perfect music in a perfect venue.
I am forever thankful that I went to that show, and I would not have done it if it wasn't for people on this message board spreading the word about Chris's talent. One thing I have always loved about this message board is the sharing of music.

Posted - 11/20/2008 : 4:00:28 PM I'll definatley be playing some Chris Whitley cds tonight at home on this sad anniversary. I'm very thankful for all of the amazing music he put out, and love the new live cd that came out. I got mine off Amazon a few weeks ago. Maybe a live Vast Combo cd will come out one day. |

Posted - 11/20/2008 : 08:29:35 AM It is an honor to experience him and his immortal music with all of you wonderful friends. His music lasts on...in all of us. It is really crazy isn't it? At the time going to see Chris play was something that seemed so common, like we would go every other weekend, now it is still hard to imagine that I'll never see him play again. Truly sad. We miss you Chris, thank you for all the emotional sounds that you have created. We love you! |

Amen. I had just turned 21, eight days before he passed on. I remember one of the reasons I had been so excited to turn 21 was so I could finally go see a CW concert, as the only places he played around me were almost exclusively bars. Regardless, live shows pop up online and videos of him playing supplement the void. What a remarkable being of energy and truth. I lift my glass tonight, tomorrow, and always to Chris. |
