Posted - 04/07/2008 : 08:52:42 AM I got a new guitar last week. I bought a Baden Rosewood A-style equipped with the Fishman Ellipse Aura pickup system. I contacted the company because there are no dealers that carry their guitars in the area. They put in me in contact with Marcus Eaton (who endorses these guitars, and was very helpful and friendly) and then they sent me two styles to try out.
They're really good guitars. They're 100% handmade and 100% solid wood (except for the obvious parts). All the binding and stuff is wood too. They have a weird look to them...but when it comes down to it, they sound GREAT!
I guess they keep the price down (the one I got retails for $3000...not exactly cheap, but much cheaper than comparable handmade guitars) by having them built in Vietnam. It's the same guitar factory that makes Ayers guitars (used by Andy McKee among others). It's not a sweat-shop kind of deal. Just Vietnamese craftsman doing their thing.
So far, I'm very happy with the purchase.
I'll post some pics soon.
Oh...and if anyone is interested, I'm selling my 2005 Taylor 410 equipped with a bone saddle and an L.R. Baggs RTSII pickup system. It's got one very small ding on the binding on the treble side lower bout...but otherwise it's mint. I bought it after playing about a dozen other guitars at the shop. This one stood out considerably above the others...including Martin D-28s, D-35s, Taylor 810s, 714s, etc. Send me a message if you want some pictures or sound clips or something... |

Posted - 04/15/2008 : 12:42:03 AM I bought one guitar in 1987, a Takamine G330, and I absolutely love it. You have to go with what jive's in your and and on your fingertips. I was in a Guitar Shop in Costa Mesa, CA. and pick up and played 30 to 40 different guitars on the wall, and I kept coming back to this one like a magnet. Let your spirit lead you to the right one, you'll know it when you play it. No to get too deep or anything LOL. Guilds, by the way are like melted buttah, AW YEAH.. Take care. |

Posted - 04/10/2008 : 12:20:07 AM Well, if I see any in Good N Loud Music anytime (or in the rare chance of going somewhere else), I'll try one out.
Truthfully, I am not a huge Taylor fan. Just never got into them. I dislike Dave's Taylors compared to his Martins, Lakewoods, Chets, Gibsons, and his old Yamaha (yes, I prefer the sound of the Yamaha in the early days).
Guilds just seem to meld with me. My friend Mark has what seems to have the greatest 12 string guitar ever! It's a Guild! It melts into your hand like butter, and it is so easy to FINGERPICK on it! I also have a DeArmond Guild electric jazz guitar (which they don't make anymore) and it is my favorite guitar that I own (even more than my Gibson Les Paul). I just have fallen head over heels in love with the Guild GAD-40. It's just feels like me, but in guitar form. I have played a lot of guitar, and that one is the one for me.
But again, if I see one of those Badens, I'll check it out. |
