So Sunday morning I was woken up and told to go into the garage, My dad was in there, and he told me to sit down and listen. So I did.

He's got cancer...It's prostate cancer but it's advanced into his bones, He's having lots of trouble walking, he's on oxycodone. There are some kind of injections that are supposed to shrink the tumors but it's too advanced to "cure," all it will do is buy us time. It could be 10 months, could be five years. We don't know, and that's the worst part. In his own words, "Jay, If I see you all mopey and depressed between now and the end I'm gonna kick your ass." It's pulled my family closer, and we're all optimistic about it. I'm not really sad (I am, but you know what I mean...) or really shocked anymore, It's just hard to get my head around, ya know? We're taking him to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and hopefully Jeff Lang (he's a big fan.) and plus loads of fishing trips. That's my dad, though, he doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for him, he just wants us to be happy about life and what we've got. But that's my terrible news, kids.

My heartfelt feelings to you Jay, that is terrible. Atleast he's got a great son to take care of him. Cancer runs in my family as well. My best wishes to you and your family jay. Take care.

I always say this when talking about life and death. I firmly believe in it, even though I am not a Krishna Devotee.

Sri Krishna from the Bhagavad Gita:

"There was never a time when I did not exist, nor you.
Nor will there be any future where we cease to be."

My heart goes out to you and your family. And as Eric Idle says/sings, "Always look on the bright side of life."

"The only thing I knew how to do, was to keep on keeping on..."

Best wishes, hopes, vibes, and prayers to you and the Fam. I agree with Dan, your Dad sounds like he's got some steel in him. He will stand and be true.

That is horrible news about your dad, but at least good news that your family is close and loving. You guys will be in my thoughts.

My deepest sympathies Jay. My father has been battling cancer now for years (testicle removed, and currently some cancer of the muscles in his abdomen) and my mother had Hodgkin's Lymphoma that had to be treated with chemo- and radiation.

The news is always 2-fold because you realize you have to watch yourself because it raises your likelihood of developing 'the illness.'

The only advice is I can offer is to have him get on a good healthy diet and keep his blood alkaline. That is a big factor in the matastisizing of many cancers.
