Well besides Guy Fawkes,a dn the anniversary of Bill Cooper's death...today was a fund raiser day for Ron Paul. Now his campaign had nothing to do with this...it was all grassroots but the goal was to raise 10 million dollars in one day, today.

So far we are up to 4.5 million and it is only 2:51pm! I can't believe that this is really happening. Everyone is coming together over his message of freedom and peace and donating like never before. Ron paul gives me hope that maybe, just maybe the people can pull together and makre a difference. That we aren't all down and out yet. Come on Kucinich...Come on Dr. Paul! Let's save this country we all love so much!

hey, this is dan's and mine quote off, no planet of the apes thing was ever discussed or ran by me.

Yup. Both from planet of the apes. I of course am inventing a time machine so I'm not really worried about a nuclear holocaust but people in the past should be worried about me going back in time with some machine guns.
Arthen Posted - 11/09/2007 : 3:05:59 PM
They're both Planet of the Apes quotes.

"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it. You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"

"Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death."

Yes, I believe Ron Paul is from the Austrian School of Economics. Of course I couldn't disagree more with bringing back a gold standard at this point it might at least momentarily stabilize our currency. Although our currency has been floated so long and countries like China have so many reserves that it still doesn't really fix our economic problems.

Going to the gold standard again may bring stability to the dollar but then when the level of wealth increases beyond the amount of gold we hold the currency will have to become devalued or floated again. It's just so ridiculous to me to say we are going to make our money worth something by making it's value set to the value of these shiny rocks. The only reason gold is worth anything is because of a collective hallucination that gold is worth something. The only reason gold became worth anything is because of law and people accepting it's legitimacy. The same is true of our money. I think the value of money resides in law.

While I dislike our current monetary policies I think that the gold standard will be a disaster in the long run.

they guy who wrote that sounds like an asshole. at first i thought it said harry knowles wrote it, and i thought "man who the fuck cares what that guy thinks about movies, let alone big boy issues."

i heard somewhere that ron paul wants to bring back the gold standard. any truth to that?

The Ron Paul Juggernaut

By David Knowles
Nov 6th 2007 8:14AM

This morning, a collective gasp of dismay was heard coming from the Republican party candidates for president. The news? Texas congressman Ron Paul has set a new GOP single-day fundraising record. In a 24-hour period Mr. Paul raised $4.2 Million dollars through on-line donations. The astonishing total suddenly has people wondering: Is this guy for real? Though he may not win the Republican nomination, his candidacy can no longer be written off as "the longest of long shots." He's raising top-tier money, and attracting thousands of new supporters every week, in part due to a strong performance on the Tonight Show (see below). Much to the disdain of the GOP establishment, one thing has become certain about Mr. Paul, he will have an effect on the race.

So how did Paul do it? Who are these hordes of internet supporters that he is reaching? Well, according to Reuters they are all around us. A recent survey found that 80% of adults now regularly use the internet. And many of them are impressed with Paul's candor and consistency. Say what you will about the merits of his positions, but he is nothing if not steadfast in his reasoning.

Greg McNeilly had a good post about Mr. Paul's transparent approach to fundraising and spending, and it underlines a central aspect of the Texas congressman's appeal. With "Dr. No," as Paul is known, you know what you're going to get. He's certainly not a flip-flopper.

As to whether abandoning Iraq and Afghanistan, or abolishing the IRS and the Department of Education are good ideas (never mind whether the latter items have a snowball's chance in hell of passing muster in congress) almost seems beside the point. Mr. Paul has become a symbol of revolt for voters tired of politics as usual. This modern day Guy Fawkes is rising in stature faster than any other candidate. Will he play the role of spoiler? Win the nomination out right? Even become president? Yesterday showed that ignoring Ron Paul (Ron Paul George and Ringo, as i like to call him) is not a smart move.

Badass Dave! I hope it all works out, I really, really like Ron Paul's stance. It really reminds me of 18th and 19th century political thought.
