I feel very, very sorry for anyone who doesn't get fall colors this time of year...There's this hill about a mile away from home, it's kind of the long way home for me but I always take that road north because there's this hill, maybe 500 feet up looking down into the valley that leads to Lake Erie about 20-30 miles away---There's no describing this view in mid-October, I'd take pictures but there's no stopping. All the bright orange and red and yellow, the tree trunks black from rain, capped off with Lake Erie twenty miles to the north (It looks like an extension to the sky, and no you can't see Canada.) Sorry if you've got conifers or cactus or skyscrapers.

All right so boats. Yeah, I'm talking about big-ass Great Lakes ore boats (they're in the Lakes, they are "boats" not "Ships.") I'm seriously contemplating finding a deck hand job on one. The job might suck, but the experience wouldn't. 60 days on, 30 days off, winters at home.
It's weird, I'm just kind of drawn to the Lakes and the boats, there is so much history behind both that you can learn for years on end and never know the full story. There's 270 KNOWN shipwrecks in Lake Erie, but there's estimated to be between 1400 and 8000 in total-some as old as the 1700's, others only a decade or two, and they all have a story. It's the highest concentration of shipwrecks in the world.

I'm just gonna quit before this sounds like a travel pamphlet. Anybody here have diving certifications?

Germany has lovely fall colors. And I'm sure there are boats somewhere, but they're not in Stuttgart...

First, there is a house down the road with these huge trees in it's front yard. And every fall, they all change color at the exact time. Right now, it's all gold. The ground is gold, and the sky is gold. It feels like you are in Loth Lorien (middle-earth) where everything is gold. It's just beautiful.

Also, I love it that here in Madison, we got 2 big lakes (nothing compared to the great lakes, but still nice and big). My uncle has a sail boat, and I LOVE to go out on the water with him. It's a great time when you pick up the wind, and just let the boat fly. It's just wonderful.

After those stats...I'm thinking that it might not be a great idea for you to take a deck-hand job. Seems like you're guaranteed to go under.
