Spy Flies All the Buzz at Washington, N.Y. Political Events

Ever wish you could be a "fly on the wall" at a closed-door meeting or to hear a foe’s secrets?

Enter the robobug.

Witnesses are buzzing about recent sightings of robotic-looking dragonflies seen at Washington and New York political events. And U.S. government and private agencies have admitted to striving for the spy technology, The Washington Post reports, though no one has confessed to deploying the bugged bugs.

"They looked kind of like dragonflies or little helicopters," New York college student Vanessa Alarcon said after seeing the dragonflies while working at an antiwar rally in Lafayette Square last month.

The U.S. has used robotic fliers as early as World War II, but their numbers were fewer and the technology more primitive.

"I'd never seen anything like it in my life," Washington lawyer Bernard Crane said. "They were large for dragonflies. I thought, 'Is that mechanical, or is that alive?'"

Some federally funded groups are implanting live insects with computer chips in hopes using spyware and remote controls to manipulate their flight.

The robobugs could be used to track suspects, guide missiles or find trapped survivors in collapsed buildings.

brutal. the trouble is, what happens when there's a black rapist? you gonna put him into slavery? oh man, that'd be such media circus. can you even imagine? pedophiles, i don't know. that's tough. doing something punitive would be dangerous because it's an illness, so that sets a dangerous precedent for punishing others for their illness. i say jail for rapists. let them experience through empirical observation why rape sucks.

man, death penalty. i'll do that later. i got somewhere to be soon.

Necrophilia should be a punishment for things like rape and pedophilia. Make them have sex with some horribly grotesque and disfigure corpse. I'll donate my roommate's body whenever he kicks it.

And c'mon Dan, it's not like you to hint or be coy about how you feel! What are your reasons for the death penalty? You've got me interested now.
dan p. Posted - 10/09/2007 : 4:23:06 PM
death penalty for sex crimes is a shitty idea. think about it. let's say i rape someone. if raping someone yields the death penalty, there's no reason for me not to kill the victim, is there? she can't tell anyone if she's dead, and killing him or her will not yield a harsher penalty for me. instead, i have a reason [i]to[\i] kill him or her. you might say "or people won't rape as much because the penalty is death." death penalty hasn't been an effective deterrent.

and what sex crimes will be punishable by death? rape? statutory rape? pedophilia? necrophilia? sodomy? define your terms. statutory rape can be consensual. pedophilia is an illness, i think. necrophilia is creepy, but would you kill someone for fucking a corpse? seems ridiculous. and most people commit sodomy. practicing homosexuals do it, and most heterosexuals do it, too.

but i'm for the death penalty for some things. i'm not sure anyone would like my reasoning for it, though.

Yes. For Sex Crimes and High Crimes only. Proven without a reasonable doubt.

Yes.

So you have become an advocate for the death penalty?
