Leftist Blogs Defend Police Brutality In Student Tazering
Partisan bickering obscures heart of the issue as Fox News, MSNBC set up phony debate by making Kerry's behavior focus of story, not oppressive actions of thug cops

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Media coverage of a University of Florida student being tazered by cops for asking a question didn't spark a debate about ongoing police brutality and political persecution, but instead prompted partisan bickering and mindless ninnying about John Kerry's behavior during the incident, while leftist blogs defended the actions of the police.

Andrew Meyer was grabbed by cops yesterday after he asked the former presidential candidate why he didn't challenge the rigged election of 2004 and about his membership of the skull and bones secret society. Meyer asked police what he was being arrested for as they dragged him to the back of the University Auditorium before manhandling him to the ground.

As the photo above shows, two female officers, one with some kind of gangland tattoo on her arm, seem to be smiling with pleasure as they move in to seize Meyer.

Only when Meyer was immobile and had five officers on top of him did the police decide to send 50,000 volts of electricity coursing through his prostrate body, seemingly waiting until Meyer begged them not to do it so as to enjoy the maximum power trip from administrating the torture.

Watch the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCBcOQkUNjI

Fox News, MSNBC and others relentlessly replayed the video yesterday - not as a shocking indictment of the police's actions during the incident, but to discuss John Kerry's behavior and the fact that he continued taking questions while Meyer was being brutalized.

This prompted leftist blogs like News Hounds to slam Fox for endlessly showing the footage as Democrat websites closed ranks and either ignored what was a savage act of police brutality and political persecution or simply claimed Fox News were hyping the story.

They even defended the actions of the police in stating the cops were right to tazer Meyer as he lay on the floor. Imagine if this had happened during a town hall meeting with Bush - liberals would have screamed bloody murder and rightly so - but in this instance they applaud the police for their act of torture simply because Meyer dared question their idol John Kerry.

Another detail left out of press reports is Meyer's political affiliation - he is not a Neo-Con who was attempting to put John Kerry on the spot as Fox News has tried to portray - he was a 9/11 truther. Meyer links to the 9/11 Mysteries documentary from the home page of his website.

Beyond the mindless partisan ninnying, the heart of the issue is that this was another act of wanton police brutality and torture by means of tazering.

The police are now trained that "pain compliance," a euphemism for torture, is acceptable in apprehending anyone even if that person poses no physical danger.

In many cases, cops will tazer someone even if they offer no resistance whatsoever, simply for the sick enjoyment of the power trip as the victim begs and pleads not to be tortured.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_M8s0GFEc

Take the case of UCLA student Mostafa Tabatabainejad (video above) , who was stunned over and over again for refusing to show his ID at a campus library.

Tabatabainejad agreed to leave and was on his way out of the building before cops tazered him and then proceeded to order him to get back on his feet just so they could shock him over and over again as he cried and moaned for them to stop.

The bottom line is that Taser use is being abused by police all over the country as cops are trained that torture is a perfectly acceptable response to somebody who asks the wrong question or refuses to show their papers.

Sorry but I didn't have TIMe to read this whole thread but if I got the jist there is some doubt as to the authenticity of the taser photo? I saw the full video the day this happened, it is actually old news, but let me assure all it is real. Very sad, but very real. Ironically, I was appalled the day it happened and almost posted a thread about it but decided I wasn't sure I wanted to open that can of worms. LOL I certainly know where I stand on this subject. I leave it to everyone else to decide where they stand.

That's right, an 82 year old woman warranted a tasering. Wow.

oh, no. it was sort of amusing to watch him get tased, but he didn't deserve it. he wasn't assaulting them, he was just being difficult to subdue. in instances when someone assaults a police officer, though, i tend not to feel much for the guy when he gets shot. i'm not even sure how you can keep going. having a gun pointed at you is very terrifying.

I don't think you are but I have to check... You're not saying he assaulted them are you?

They already cut off his mic. All they needed to do was to tell him he should calm down as he answered his question and let Kerry weasel his way around the question. Then if the kid starts causing problems whatever. I don't think they needed to taser him at all. We are quickly becoming more of a police state.

I do agree that it was a mistake to tazer the guy, because it made him even more annoying than he already was. "Oww oww owww ahhh owww owwweee!" The cops removing him was a bit pre-mature. I guess you can no longer ask politicians the "tough questions."

also, police have to be tasered before they're allowed to carry one. same thing with pepper spray. so it's not as if they don't know what a taser does and how it feels to be hit by one.

the ideal use of tasers is to respond non-lethally to threats. one might argue that, to a police officer, there is no altercation that is non-lethal for them. they carry a gun, which can be grabbed and used against them. frankly, i'm of the mind that if you assault a man with a gun, regardless of who that person is, you deserve whatever happens next.

the sad thing is, police officers now will just use it to make the job of subduing someone easier, or using it to make people more compliant. that's not really what the taser is for.

i have a taser story.

a few years ago i was in the local mall one night to get a video game. i'm walking along and some police go charging by. i figured "this is probably awesome, but the store's going to close soon." i read the paper the next day or the day after and it's this story about how the cops tasered this 14 kid like 3 times before arresting him for some stupid thing or other. 1 or 2 taserings took place after he was down. the kid had done whatever it was he did, and when security came by, he sassed off. then he sassed off to the police and tried to run when they came. the question was asked "why taser him so much?" the police response was that he was hard to subdue, and he was moving fast enough so that the tasing didn't really take. the kid had some taser related injuries. nothing life threatening, or really very serious, but injuries nonetheless. now, all of that's fine except for two things:

1. moving to fast for a taser to be effective? so what's being said that he was moving to fast for electricity. unless the kid is some sort of fucking jedi, i'd be willing to bet he wasn't moving that fast. even so, let's say ok, this 14 year old was really moving that fast. why did he have injuries from 3 tasers? one is enough to bring a human down, especially a 14 year old human. i don't really see this explanation playing out in real life.

2. if you cannot subdue a 14 year old without the aid of weapons, check the birth date on your license; you might be a 90 year old man. and even if you can't do what any grown person should be able to do, who would fess up to that? nothing is adding up at all.

while i think it's important that kids learn not to be smartasses to grown ups, and violence is an effective way to do that, but no tasers.

i'm not sure why you just sent me a google search for taser. there's a ton of stuff there, most of which has little or nothing to do with taser related abuse or deaths. probably i'll hit up wikipedia to see some stats on it.

i'll take your word on the photo thing. i really don't know much about it. just seemed weird is all. i guess it's real. but i think the expression on the cops' face isn't really some sort of sadistic smile. the one in the back seems like she's grimacing, and i'm not sure i've ever seen the sort of expression like on the one in the foreground. she looks a little underwhelmed by the whole thing.

So no more than a month ago I'm downtown walking to the bus stop to get home from the library and I'm right by the courthouse. So this guy goes running by me followed by a whole bunch of cops and courthouse cops. As he goes around the corner on of the cops tazers him. I was ok with that for the most part since the guy was running or whatever but then four guys jumped on him and one of them had his elbow on his face pressing it down to the cement. Another was digging a knee in his back. The guy was just laying there after he dropped to the ground from being tazered and wasn't resisting at all.

Of course in portland there have been ongoing police shootings and overuse of force problems. In fact in a suburb here they shot a naked man because he got on top of a police car and one of the officers had left a shotgun on the car. The guy didn't even go for it and was shot and killed just for having it at his feet.

I'm not sure if the terms liberal and leftist fit though. Kind of used loosely there. They're "watch dogs" of FOX. Kind of lame to say leftist blogs and then only list one instead of just saying News Hounds. It also hints at some uniform opinion of leftists to support the cops. Also the MSNBC clip was not discussing John Kerry but saying the cops should be ashamed of themselves. Once again not the greatest reporting in the world.

I wonder if this kid will try and sue. Seems like to me the cops had no right to arrest him or remove him from a public assembly.
rubylith Posted - 09/18/2007 : 1:58:20 PM
Oh sorry forgot to send more info on the photo...

Cameras were allowed there, so they got multiple angles of video and photos. The photo came from USA Today...

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/09/cops-taser-stud.html

You've seen photos of cars racing before when everything else is blurred around it, I'm no photo expert, but maybe Fluffy could answer this one, that's when you focus on a fast moving object. If you're good enough, which this guy obviously was, you can snap quite a good photo.

Anyway, the underlying issue is that, tasers and branded as non-lethal, yet they are being used wrecklessly and they are killing people. What if the cops killed that guy, what if they shot him in the leg to stop him? Why is a taser different?

that picture might be bullshit. look at how blurry the guy is. look at how blurry everyone in the background is. now look at how not blurry the police are. are the police not moving? i'm not a photo expert or anything, but it seems to me that it's strange that only the cops aren't blurry. also, where are the credits for the photo? the thing looks doctored and they're not saying where it came from. i call bullshit. the cops look photoshopped in. nevermind that there's nothing there's nothing in the video that looks like that anyway. source and reason why it looks weird or it's fake.

also, this just in: cops are people. people fuck up. the article makes it sounds like cops are everywhere are just going nuts with tasers. they then proceed to give us 2 pieces anecdotal evidence. i actually have another story of unnecessary use of taser from my hometown, but that still doesn't mean it's a problem. it means some cops fucked up. it happens. law enforcers aren't robots, they're people. sometimes people lose their heads in a struggle or get too angry. this doesn't excuse the officers or make it ok in the least, but it means yowling about police state oppression or whatever is dumb.

we get it, prisonplanet. you a website for the crazy type of libertarian hate all authority and you use singular incidents to prove that the government/army/police are all bad.
