Posted - 01/29/2007 : 7:14:22 PM a baby, whose mother is dead and whose father's identity is unknowm, is brought to his uncle's farm. he lives the farm life, but stumbles upon a dragon egg sought after by "the empire." he keeps it, and the empire kills his uncle and burns the farm.
stop me if you've heard this before.
since he has nothing left, he leaves to go on a journey with brom, the local eccentric old guy who knows a lot of lore. spoilers ahead. turns out brom used to be a dragon rider, an order of people with special powers that kept the peace. so eragon trains with brom to use sword and magic. brom dies, but not before revealing that eragon must become a dragon rider.
the head of the empire, galbatorix, used to be a dragon rider, but he turned evil and killed or had killed all the other riders. ok? eragon trains with an old, crippled, hidden dragon rider, but leaves before his training is complete to fight in a battle. in that battle it is revealed that he is the son of the man who turned evil with galbatorix.

Posted - 01/30/2007 : 01:35:55 AM just the general plot of this doesn't intrigue me the least. Nothing to do with ripping off, just doesn't make me want to see it. If I wanted to watch a good dragon movie , I'd just rent Dragonheart (Sean Connery as a dragon, it's just pretty kewl). |

Posted - 01/29/2007 : 8:16:31 PM they actually changed the movie a lot from the book so it wouldn't be so obvious. i never saw the movie, but i read the first two books. they're terribly written, and it's completely ripped off. avoid. |

Posted - 01/29/2007 : 8:08:04 PM Eh, no surprise. A lot of the movies that have come out recently are direct remakes, which not many people realize either. It's all recycled garbage. |
