Posted - 10/26/2006 : 01:05:26 AM I dont know if anyone here has listened to them before.. but i suggest giving them a try.
i find that with many bands, the crutch for people is the voice of the singer. but i also find that if you listen to and enjoy the music for a while, the voice grows on you and you start to like it. and thats most likely going to be the case with this band.
i attended their concert last night in Austin, and they are completely amazing. one of the best concerts ive ever seen.
if you plan to listen to them i suggest "Engine Driver", "16 Military Wives" and "July, July"
[EDIT]
here's a video from the concert. colin meloy calls someones mom and sings to her. 1 last thing, this is the only song that colin didn't have an instrument. all of the members in the band played different types of instruments throughout the night, it was very cool.

Posted - 11/07/2006 : 12:45:52 AM I saw these guys once as an opening act. I don't remember for whom they opened exactly, it might have been Beck. I didn't like them at the time, and pretty much writ them off as another Saddle Creek type band (Bright Eyes ) but I guess this new cd was picked up by Capital Records, and has been getting pretty good reviews, so I'll have to give it another chance.
For the record, Coheed and Cambria have become a guilty pleasure for me. I'm a bit ashamed that I like them, but darnit, I do. |

Posted - 10/27/2006 : 02:00:04 AM what's their "image" ? |

Posted - 10/27/2006 : 01:22:21 AM i don't listen to them for their image either. or rather, i don't not listen to them for their image. i don't listen to them because i don't like the music they play. because of their music, i group them with other bad indie bands. |

Posted - 10/26/2006 : 7:02:07 PM well dan, i don't listen to the decemberists for their image, i really just enjoy the music. i would love those songs if Tim Reynolds created them, b/c they sound good to my brain..then again, most people don't hold Hall & Oates to the status of 'amazing' like I do..
I like music that sounds good in my ears, but also looks good and tastes good. yes, tastes. i'm psycho?

Posted - 10/26/2006 : 5:21:18 PM coheed and cambria are huns at the gate of decency and goodness. my brain just cannot deal with what comes out of them. they're too pussy to be metal, too hard to be pop, and as much as they try, they aren't tech enough to be noticable for it. i associate the decemberists with essentially every other boring hipster indy band there ever was. to be fair, though, that's probably more a flaw in my perception of mine than their music. either way i don't like them. |

wow. that's really funny that you said that, b/c a friend of mine put a Coheed song on my ipod a few weeks ago..and i NEVER listened to it for that same reason..but guess what has happened? i inadvertently listened to it several times, and now i really like that song.. and his voice is actually withstandable.
good call arthen haha |

Posted - 10/26/2006 : 03:12:53 AM Well, I love Bob Dylan, and I prefer all of his versions of his songs over any covers (well, dmb's watchtower is an almost tie).
Also, I notice with a lot of people that they don't like Dave Matthews's voice either (like my Dad, he only grew to liking them and respecting them when he saw Listener Supported).
So yeah, I'll take a look :) . |
