Posted - 10/10/2006 : 5:12:58 PM Well, in about one hour I'm leaving with my best friend Josh and we're road tripping to San Francisco to see Roger Waters perform the Dark Side of the Moon. As this is the closest we'll ever be to a real Pink Floyd concert, we are absolutely thrilled! Be prepared for comments and a review tomorrow! |

Posted - 10/14/2006 : 5:37:35 PM I thought The Machine did a good job recreating the Pink Floyd sound, but then I've never actually seen Pink Floyd live. So probably not a useful opinion. |

Posted - 10/11/2006 : 10:02:40 PM Leaving Beirut is an anti bush political song. The lyrics are great, but I always felt a lack of musical quality and style without Gilmour or Syd with him, imo.
(the rest again, is imo)
I have the In the Flesh dvd, and most of it is good (in the flesh, Dogs, Mother, Set the Controls, Shine On, Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert). What wasn't good was Breathe without Gilmour, and Time. Perfect Sense is good at most points, but at a few points it lost it's charm, but it would come back.
But the one thing that Roger should never do is play Comfortable Numb without Gilmour. It just leaves me with nothing, empty. I mean, it is Gilmour's own tune, and his pride and joy. It's like hearing Paul Simon doing Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I mean I love Paul's solo stuff, but the magic of that song is really Art's vocals.
I do like a good amount of Roger Solo, but some stuff he can't do great without Gilmour or Syd. |

Posted - 10/11/2006 : 9:21:21 PM Yeah the song was way too long, and it had this real drone keyboard on it, that just played three notes over the verses. Blech. Plus he uses the word "Dudes" in it. Come on! Say Blokes at least, your English man! |

Posted - 10/11/2006 : 6:50:26 PM Leaving Beirut is a new song...Roger put out an album with like 3 songs on it, and that was the 1st track...Agreed that it's not some of his best work... |

Posted - 10/11/2006 : 3:21:43 PM Well, the concert was more than I could've hoped for as I didn't think Roger Waters could sing as well as he did.
Here's close to the setlist as I remember:
Set one: In the Flesh Mother Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun Perfect Sense (all of it) Shine On...(pts 1-5) Have a Cigar Wish You Were Here Leaving Beirut (a new song, not very good in my opinion) Pigs
Set Two: Speak to Me Breathe On the Run Time The Great Gig in the Sky Money Us and Them Any Colour You Like Brain Damage Eclipse
Encore: The Happiest Days of Our Lives Another Brick in the Wall Vera Bring the Boys Back Home Comfortable Numb
There may have been a song or two from the first set that I've forgotten, but that's pretty close to the order and the songs. The concert was bad ass. Two lead guitarists, one keyboardist, one drummer, one keyboardist/lap steel/acoustic guitarist, one other keyboardists/guitarist, three back up singers, a bassist, and Roger himself. They recreated the Pink Floyd sound really well and Roger Waters did a great job singing the songs he sang.
Highlights: Heart of the Sun was absolutely amazing, Pigs had a huge inflatable pig flying over the audience with Impeach Bush written on it, Lots of pyrotechnics and cool light show Perfect Sense was really interesting
The whole show was amazing, Vera and Bring the Boys was completely unexpected but welcomed. Show ran about 2.5 hours with a 15min set break. |
