O.k. you dusty bargain bin friends, I love you all! That said, I"m with Arthen as far as my fave of the moment. I will say that "Din" holds the most songs that are my heart, "Guns and Dolls" has always been my fave, I don't know why.
Once in S.F. I was sitting downstairs in the lounge/smoking space. Someone mentioned a song they'd like to hear, I said how I'd be thrilled to hear Guns and Dolls, I'd never hear it because Chris wasn't playing it at all then. I happened to glance up, and he was on the landing. I really didn't think he heard me. When he played it I was ecstatic! He looked right at me, and gave that little smile. I'll never forget that, he never played it again.
God Thing is my second fave. I love Terra though too, Cool Wooden Crosses...I like it all really. He was an artist in every sense of the word. I'm so glad that so many of you see that and appreciate it. He deserved that. It's very touching to me that TR is playing some of his songs too, it feels very true somehow. Peace, Robin

Ok awesome, we have all luckily been tuched in some way or another by the wise music of our dear friend, Chris Whitley.

Whats your favorite song?

My....probably "Alien" (Terra Incognita). First Chris Whitley song I ever learned how to play and sing.

The first one I learned to play "Accordingly" I fell in love with it because of those damn haunting lyrics. The imagery gave me the shivers.

But favorite song, man, that is tough. I go back and forth all over the place. I find that I'll dig an album of his hardcore, right now my favorite albums are Terra Incognita (so I'm feeling you on the "Alien") and Din of Ecstasy. But in a week I might be back on Hotel Vast Horizon or Rocket House or War Crime Blues or....you get the point.

Every song is a masterpiece. I only feel that way about three musicians: CW, TR, and Peter Gabriel.

Is "Alien" your favorite CW song to play Dave? Do you have any copies of you performing it? I would love to hear any CW covers you've done. Personally I love playing "New Lost World", it's one of the only songs I don't think that I ruin in terms of singing. I love to play "Power Down", "Big Sky Country", "From a Photograph", "To Joy", and "Little Torch(Firefighter)".

As do I. I was reading something someone wrote and they said, "I mourn for the music he didn't write." Man, how true.

Ha ha. Stupid spammers.

Seriously though, I like to think of you as my Chris Whitley Friend and Pen Pal, Robin. Someone that really gets Chris Whitley and is good to talk to, because I can't talk about CW to anyone else I know for the most part.
