Posted - 09/04/2006 : 03:44:37 AM Man, this sucks. I always liked this guy, but at the same time, I always saw this coming. Its a headline that doesn't suprise me one bit, kinda like if I woke up tomorrow and saw a headline reading "Johnny Knocksville dies in stupid stunt".

Posted - 09/04/2006 : 8:02:24 PM I loved Steve, he was a really great example for kids, he didn't do things to provoke the animals he was working with. He always explained so much in a really respectful way. Its a freak thing that occured, and true at least he went doing what he loved.I used to watch his show with my son and we always enjoyed him so much. Really sad,Peace, Robin |

Wow, that is sad. He was getting more and more careless in his stunts though. Kind of a fitting way for him to die, by one of natures creatures. Sad that he leaves behind a young wife and two little children.
The sad part is that he wasn't really being careless during this incident. He was swimming over a stingray, not provoking it, not trying to get a reaction, just getting footage for his daughter's new tv series. Only 17 people in the world have died from stingray attacks... it was a very freakish incident. Heck... every Sunday I swim with the stingrays in La Jolla cove in San Diego, even accidentally stepped on a few, and have never even been stung... just to give you an idea of how rare something like this is.
On a lighter note - I used to read the morning announcements in high school and every Friday I'd do a different guest celebrity voice. By far, the most popular one was Steve Irwin. So popular that this morning my inbox was filled with old high school buddies asking if I heard the news... |

Posted - 09/04/2006 : 4:51:32 PM It was the proper way for him to go. Can you imagine a headline like "Croc Hunter Hit By Mac-Truck"? |
