In all the years I've been reading this board, I don't know if we've ever had an official "post your picture" thread. Anyway, the board has been slow recently so maybe this will get some of us that have been in hiding to come back out and post, at least in one thread. Easiest way is probably to post your myspace profile if you have one. I recently caved and joined the dark side so I'll start things off.

Time to come clean folks...

Girls aren't alone in this though. I get the occassional friend request from a porn star asking me to take a look at her site. No men asking yet.....unfortunately...

And I think this is the wierdest one I've gotten so far because it seemed like a normal email from a normal person. (I deleted the name so you wouldn't be tempted to email her)

I know what you did last night How much did you enjoy yourself? Wanna have lots more fun? Yep, yep I'm being a bit outspoken, but give me a chance. I was showing off this site to my close cousin She really insisted that I left you a corny message - well notcorny as much as interesting. She would love to hook up with you, so contact her at _______ at yahoo. She's outgoing, good-looking, smart and very horny.

What the hell was that?????

So far I've only gotten two messages from random men. I just hit delete. If it gets bad I'll either go back to private or quit entirely. (That is, I think I can quit anytime I want. Could I be addicted?)
Robin Posted - 08/30/2006 : 8:23:35 PM
yeah, I thought it over and had that same creepy feeling. The girls that post on myspace for the most part seem like they're trying to impress someone, and are pretty young. The posts are incredibly shallow. I was thinking that I already have really meaningful in depth e-mails and phone coversations with the people that are my true friends, so at some point I'll post a photo here where I know all you creeps. (I'm TOTALLY kidding).Peace, Robin
P.S. I still like teri's page, it's really fun.

yeah, i was meaning to say that. girls, if you post pictures or videos of yourself on some website like youtube or one of those picture sites, you can be sure, 100% sure, that somewhere, some guy is pulling it to an image of you. and really, if you do post your picture on one of those sites and some creepy guy starts bothering you, you really have to understand that you earned it. should you be able to post pictures of yourself without dealing with weird guys? yes. can you? no. it's not right, it's not fair, but it is what it is.

by my using the phrase "pulling it" i believe i have fufilled the ancient prophecy of every thread ending in masturbation. i believe it goes "yea, and it shall come to pass that all threads will end in masturbation, though they be different in author and content. for no topic may be created that has not its utmost foundation self-gratification. ad majoriam dei gloriam, ad infinitum."

ok, no offense but i've come to find myspace is for children (unfortunately for the children). like 10 yr olds. like pjk said, not exactly an adult website. not to mention no matter who you are......be VERY careful. not to get into detail but i've had some real "dirty old man" creeps try to contact me when i had my pic on it. it serves one purpose....meat market, which would be great if it housed decent people trying to meet other decent people. unfortunately its teaming with creepy middle-aged men who cannot get laid on their own merit or physical features. Kudos to pjk and dan p for boycotting!!!!
PJK Posted - 08/29/2006 : 3:35:01 PM
Good points Teri. It would be a nice place for family and friends, but I still prefer to just email people directly.

I think I have only seen a handful of myspace pages. It isn't something I think about doing. I go on this website and a couple other music websites. The other music sites are made up of mostly age 30+ people and no one there does the myspace thing. Really, come next week and I will be hard pressed to find time to visit here and my other favorite site let alone looking a people's myspace pages.

I think its like everything else in the world, if it works for you great, if not, no big deal.

If you're judging from my own "MySpace" page, I went ahead and made it public until I see if I get too much junk mail from it. If so, I'll go back to friends only. My Y!360 page is more secured; I can allow various parts to seen and/or commented on only by friends, or perhaps friends of friends, or, even friends of friends of friends. (MySpace has only two levels as far as I can tell: friends & public. Thus my choice to post less photos and life info and to go public - for now.)

I can see where it would seem pointless for adults, but here are my reasons, as well as those of a few of my online friends (for Y!360 more so than MySpace since that's the one on which I'm more active):
  • I move around alot and have quite a few friends all over the world that wonder what the heck is up with me.
  • Stationed in Germany and have lots of family and friends who want to see/hear about everything they're doing. They tried doing e-mails but they always left somebody of the list, or somebody wanted to be taken off the list, or an e-mail address changed.
  • Stay-at-home mom who looks forward to adult interaction by adding to her blog and seeing her friends' comments.
  • It's an easy way to post photos and have pretty good granularity in controlling permissions. The only catch is that if you want to use the security features the people who want to see your photos will have to get an account on the same service.

Regarding your last point, I was just talking to a friend of mine who works for a company called SAIC. She said they warn people in their job postings that they should clear out their social networking sites *before* putting in a resume since they *will* be checking. This is useful information for when I retire and start looking for a new career in a few years.

PJK Posted - 08/28/2006 : 6:28:31 PM
You get to see more than that. Personally, I don't like MySpace, but then I have no need for it. I guess working with kids that go on and on about their myspace pages and how many "friends" they have has really turned me off. I think of myspace as a kids internet space.

Really, I don't see the purpose of one for an adult, unless they are trying to promote something. And it is true that employers do look at perspective employees myspace pages.

I guess at my age, the people who need to know about me already do and no one else needs to know.

Also, keep in mind that you can limit your profile to just people you've approved to be your friends. With that in place, all they'd be able to see is one photo, your sign, and your nickname. (I think.)

Wow, I really admire what you do. I could NEVER teach middle schoolers. They're like aliens to me

LOL!

skyline, currently we have 6-9 in the school, in a few years they are moving the 9th grade up to the high school (which is where they belong).

I actually love the kids. Each grade has its good and bad points. 6th graders are our most enthusiastic group and bring in the most money for fundraisers. They feel so "cool" being out of the elementary setting. 7th graders are a riot. The hormones are just starting to kick in. It's an apprehensive year. Eighth graders are a mixed bunch, not quite mature, not quite little kid. By 9th grade the fun begins. I like this grade the most. They are getting more serious and it's the grade where I help to get them get ready for life. Most frustrating thing about 9th grade is getting it into their heads that this is where the competition begins for colleges etc. Slack off in 9th grade and your GPA and class rank will suck big time.

Now back to topic: If ya want to see what I look like, you will have to look for me on the website here, be forewarned you might turn to stone, LOL

My feelings exactly! LOL

Hey skyline, I work in a Middle School, with the 9th grade special ed. I am also going back to school after a VERY long TIMe to get my teaching certification. I worked in Ag research for 7 years, then started working in the schools when I had kids.

What do you teach? I hope to get certified k-6, special ed. and social studies for secondary schools. We shall see.

Currently my schedule is Guitar, AP Calculus, and Pre-Cal/Trig.

I have one guitar class first period, and let me tell you...it's the BEST way to start off the day. Drinking my coffee and playing my guitar...and I'm getting paid for this? Good times...

I also coach bowling and track.

Hey dan, I don't have a "my space" either and don't plan to get one. My picture is in the pictures off the home page and in some threads of shows, although it beats the hell out of me why anyone would want to look at them, LOL.

You are too cute Jeff!

BTW, great to see you posting Teri and I LOVE the beer mugs! My son introduced me to a beer I actually can drink. Cherry Wheat I think it's a Samuel Adams beer, but since I am not a beer drinker I am not sure that is right. I do remember the Cherry Wheat part, LOL. Had it on tap at Champs up in lion country....State College PA...Penn State!
