Posted - 08/04/2006 : 4:36:14 PM Hey everyone, guess I am not the only one who has noticed how slow our board has been these days. No new members, old members disappearing etc etc etc. As I post TouR dates for TR around the internet I encounter feedback from the "other side" and I thought I would share some of that in hopes that maybe we can become a tad more receptive to visitors. In the long run it is in TR's interest as an independent artist to ENCOURAGE new fans instead of running off potential new fans. Who knows it might even bring the board back to it's once vital glory.
Here was one I answered pretty indepth:
Question posed: quote: Ya know, not to be an ass, but there is one thing about TR fans I just don't get.
They get so mad when people ask "When will Tim play with Dave" or when they ask "How good friends are Tim and Dave?" and whatnot, like on your website that I just browsed through. Like they get angry when people continue to associate Tim Reynolds with Dave Matthews.
Yet, here the webmaster is, at a Dave Matthews Band fansite, promoting Tim Reynolds shows.
I just don't get it.
Like I said, I'm not trying to stir trouble or anything, TR is extremely talented and I can only assume how tired he must get of Dave Matthews related questions, but this is a two way street here.
Fluffy answered: quote: Certainly not trying to stir trouble back just trying to answer your question. Sadly, there are alot of aspects to the answer. LOL
1st, as you pointed out some "TR fans" get bent out of shape about those questions, I don't, so it isn't that odd to find me posting over here. If I ever got bent out of shape it only because I have had to answer the question literally 1000's of TIMes. It is not the questions themselves that bother me, I have gone to great links to explain on TR's message board the relationship between TR and Dave and how their working relationship works, its having to answer it over and over that is a tad distressing for me. It's not the "association" questions I have a problem with, it's the number of TIMes I have to answer it. LOL I have gone so far as to put the answer in the FAQ on the TRelated section of the message board. Having said that, I have never tried to deny that a relationship exists between them. I have only ever tried to get people to think of TR as his own artist and not just thru his association with Dave.
Now, because of his association with Dave, I would say that most, if not almost all TR fans came to TR thru Dave and or DMB. So I know there are folks in the DMB community who appreciate TR. So when TR does a TouR I want to make sure that ANYONE who might want to see TR perform his own brand of music has the opportunity. There is nothing more frustrating than having just played a show in "pick a city" and receive and email from someone not as in-the-know about TR wondering when he will play in whatever city we just played in. So to answer the question, I post over here to give less hardcore TR fans an opportunity to find out about TR's solo shows that they might not know about. All I am doing is trying to make sure that anyone who wishes to see TR perform solo has that opportunity. I discovered that by posting over here I cut down on random emails to me from DMB fans exponentially. I found it was easier to post over here than to answer the plethora of emails I was receiving from DMB fans one by one.
I obviously can't control "TR fans" and their reactions to questions, I can only tell you that I have gone along way to trying to get them to behave more socially with visitors to the message board. Of course, people will be people so someTIMes they listen someTIMes they don't. I guess I am just trying to point out that "their" reactions can't be held against me as some kind of odd double-standard when I come posting over here. I am trying to make sure that people find some harmony in their lives thru music. All the petty bickering and arguing over stuff drives me crazy but I accept that it is going to happen. If I really held any animosity for DMB fans you can be sure that I wouldn't be posting over here. I am not soliciting DMB fans to come to TR shows, I am soliciting TR fans, that I know exist in these DMB ranks to come to TR shows. I hope this all makes sense. I really wish everyone could get over the differences and let the music bring them together. Just like the "TR fans" you refer to there are some equally zealous "DMB fans" and I am just hoping that one day they can put their differences aside and just enjoy the music, whether that be DMB, Dave & TR or TR solo. Afterall, they are inexorably linked and I would be an idiot to try and deny or challenge that.
Response from different poster: quote: is it selfish of us to want tim to play with dave again?
or selfish of tim to not?
Fluffy responded: quote: I would say NEITHER. It certainly isn't selfish to want to see TR play with Dave, it's just a desire, not selfish at all. And it certainly isn't "selfish" of TR not to since it isn't up to him. EveryTIMe the Dave camp has called and asked him he has done it. The decision is not TR's, he can only agree after an offer is proposed. For more on this check out the following links, it has been discussed in great detail:

I just thought I would post this since I wanted everyone here to see what the perceptions of our little message board are to some folks out there. I think it behooves us have a little more tolerance for visitors and try to welcome what should be seen as a potential TR fan and not ragged on for being a DMB fan. So many of the folks on this board discovered TR thru DMB so maybe some of those visitors might become TR fans if given the chance. The TR Task Force is about spreading the music of TR and I think there is no better way of doing that than helping people who are interested enuf to take the TIMe to stop by and possibly learn more about TR than just his work with Dave or DMB. I just think that there is potential in those folks and I think our attitude here might intimidate and/or alienate alot of the visitors. Maybe we could be a tad more TOLERANT. Please remember, it is not about US so much as it is about TR and his music. Try looking at those visitors as potential converts to TR and lets try not to attack them so vigorously. That really serves noone except our own selfish interests. Just food for thought and THANX for reading, we do have a GREAT board here and I would love to see others join and enjoy it as well. |

Posted - 08/19/2006 : 7:53:37 PM Yes, I can believe that coming from Erich... but if you had asked me to guess who the writer was, I would have voted Dan P. first. (Sorry Dan!)
Back to the D&T topic. Did I ever mention that D&T Live are immortalized for ever (or until renovations) at the Norfolk, VA, airport? Right as you're about to go into security, there's a wall-sized advertisement for Old Dominion University. It features a photo of the Ted Constant Convocation Center digital billboard that reads "An Acoustic Evening with Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds." It brings a smile to my face every time I fly through there. |

Posted - 08/09/2006 : 12:47:10 AM i'd have to agree. sometimes you guys start riding some guy's jock because he's a "dave fan" or whatever. now, i'm not mr. warm welcome, but just because a guy says "i'm a big dave matthews fan" or has dmb in his forum name doesn't mean he's one of your typical dmb bro-magnon guys. it'd probably be best if you didn't get up everyone's ass about it the second he starts asking a question. just directing him to the nearest faq works better than coming off as an elitist tim reynolds fan.
of course, if he's genuinely a prick, then go for it. |

You know me when it comes to tim's music. But i was brought in through Luthor College. So when I hear people say it, I smile, because I know that, if done well, they may end up loving tims stuff like I do. |

Posted - 08/05/2006 : 02:48:53 AM Tim and Dave are great friends, and people shouldn't get mad at people if Dave is mentioned at all with Tim. I mean it is annoying when people advertise tim as being part of dmb, or just advertising live @ luther college. But I don't condone anyone being rude about it. My advice is when you type a post concering about tim being only mentioned with dave or dmb, read it and see how you would feel as the recipricant. That's what I do sometimes on boards or in e-mails.
