The amount of spam users has starting to really show. Between nike shoes, porn, and now cell phones, i think it would be a good investment to go to:

http://www.vbulletin.com/

has a zillion features that would make a board more pleasing, while also requiring email verification before you can use the board (e.g posting, making new threads, etc)

maybe we could get a fundraiser together and get the software. 160 bucks isnt bad at all for what you get in return.

yeah!! new boardddd
jsemon2 Posted - 10/20/2007 : 1:46:47 PM
i still stand my idea of a new board.
jsemon2 Posted - 04/07/2007 : 08:56:54 AM
i am still more then willing to update this board to a different engine. There wouldn't be a lose in threads or what is already here....just a new engine behind it.
Fluffy Posted - 03/14/2007 : 1:57:14 PM
"slipping"? I don't think so. LOL The total count is now up to 939 for blocked spammers. I'll take one over 939 any day of the week. Some are more diligent than most, OBVIOUSLY. At least 1 out of 940 is more diligent. LOL
jsemon2 Posted - 03/14/2007 : 12:10:40 PM
youre slipping fluffy!!!! we got sellapperal posting.....

Thanks for all the effort Fluffy, it's greatly, greatly appreciated. Dan encapsulates my feelings on the board. You and Jon are great.
dan p. Posted - 02/28/2007 : 6:22:34 PM
i'm not a big internet message board guy, but fluffy is probably the finest moderator i've seen. there's no spam, he doesn't ban people because they say things he doesn't like, and he participates in discussions.

777? time to hit the casino.
rubylith Posted - 02/28/2007 : 09:50:38 AM
No New Board! Think of all the memories!?

Thanks Fluffy you rule!

UPDATE: Well I am proud to say that with the changes that Jon Soldo & I made back a few months ago the spam seems to have stayed down and no more annoying emails from spammers. I just check in my admin options to see how many people I have stopped from signing up for our message board with links to stupid shit. Well that number is a whopping 777 over the last 107 days. I know everyone notices when it is here but I wanted to bring everyone's attention to it's absence. Think of it like this, that's 777 peoples screennames I didn't have to go thru, look at, decide if they were legit and delete. Certainly has saved me alot of TIMe and annoyance. I can only think of a couple in that same amount of TIMe who got thru, 4 to be exact. Much easier and quicker to delete 4 than 777. By the way, 7 is my lucky number so I thought it was quite sychronous that I checked that today. Hadn't really thought about it in a while. Lets hope it keeps up.

Is it possible to migrate?

it would be 160 dollars to get the software for life, and one year of free updates. after that it is 30 bucks to get a renewal update.

anyone intersted in chipping in? if so, reply saying you would help. if we get enough, then i can talk to fluffy about getting access to making this happen.

I personally prefer Invision. I run a site as well.

See my sig ;)

DAMN SPAM!!!!!! Looks like the board got hit big time again! I never see spam on any of the other music boards I go on. I don't know anything about computer programs and websites so I can't voice an opinion on what can be done, but relying on Fluffy to take care of it isn't working.

I don't mean this to sound like I am knocking Fluffy by saying that. I am definitely NOT! It is just that when he is on tour he isn't always available to get internet access and when he does, the last thing he needs to be doing is ridding the board of spam. It blows my mind at times that given the amount of sleep he gets on the road that he is able to post such elaborate reviews and set lists for us. (Also, when he is not on tour he is busy....he has a life too!)

We REALLY need to do something about the spam though. It isn't good to have it smeared all over this site. What is a newbie supposed to think? This site is supposed to be about TIM's music, with the friends section as a place for TIM's fans to hang out and talk about whatever is going on.

Fluffy, please think about what could be done to keep the spam off this site! We have some board members here that could give you some input on solutions.

we need someone to become like the Lawnmower man, and go into the computer world, and beat the shit out of those nike guys!

i dunno if this is possible, but i know that members of the TR task force would help keep the boards clean 24/7 if given the ability to delete the spam threads. I don't know the situation though and how the board is ran :P but just a suggestion! i know i would check in on the regular to make sure the boards stay clean.
jsemon2 Posted - 08/02/2006 : 09:29:16 AM
seriously fluffy, you need to get ahold of jon and do something about this bullshit. you shouldnt have to delete every thread individually because of shitheads like this.

I have an idea. If we get a new messege board, can we just keep this one locked, allow it to be searched but no new posts? Just put a seperate link in the corner in the messege board area? That way, we would have a new and more secure messege board, and be able to keep all the old posts without anyone disturbing it.

Not sure if it is possible, but just an idea.
Fluffy Posted - 07/22/2006 : 3:42:25 PM
As tired of seeing these threads pop up as you are, imagine how tired I am of deleting the threads and members one by one. I have talked to Jon S about setting up some kind of a screener and he says it's possible. So we should be able to do something to stop the spammers without changing systems and losing all the old posts. Not sure when we will get to it but hopefully soon as I am MORE tired of deleting than you are of seeing. LOL I assure you. OH, I noticed in one of them he left email addresses. Not being as computer savy as the rest of you not sure if this will work BUT how about sending any spam you recieve in your email to one of the following addresses:
quote:
http://www.nikefly.com. You also can send e-

mail to us: nikefly101@yahoo.com.cn MSN:nikefly1@hotmail.com

That might bug them a bit. LOL

it's all good, unless you deal with do web devolpment or into that sort of thing, it doesnt mean much to the average user, but seeing how i run my own board somewhere else, i know a little more.

we would lose all of the memorable posts though, like this one:

PJK Posted - 07/03/2006 : 09:23:52 AM
Jsemon2 I agree, I saw that as well as all the other spam that Fluffy so nicely got rid of this weekend. I just happen to have more time to visit right now, but it gets annoying as hell to come here and see the spam thats posted. Their screenames alone are dead give-a-ways, like "cumshot"!

I am all for something that makes it hard or impossible for spammers to post! It is really up to Jon and Fluffy though, they are the ones who make those decisions, but for what it's worth, I think your idea is great!
jsemon2 Posted - 07/03/2006 : 09:00:48 AM
http://www.timreynolds.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6604

e.g. last post on that thread

it would get rid of bots going and making new usernames, and you can set up wildcards for words that wouldnt be allowed.

rubylith Posted - 07/02/2006 : 10:17:08 PM
right on, I really haven't noticed any reason to change boards this one works great in my opinion.
